It looked like a SD broadcast - so I don't know if Cali can do this often, since he probably just taped it on air. Am I right, Cali?

I looked at the blocking of the first half video. I was really suprised at what I learned from studying the tape. The O-line wasn't as bad as Davenport in picking up the blitz. Gado was better than Davenport. It made me miss Tony Fisher.

Looking at each of the plays in order I saw

1. Tauscher mistake
2. Davenport failure at blitz pick up.
3. Colledge bad set up with feet.
4. Failed blitz pick up.
5. Davenport not picking up the blitz again.
6. Wells double teams NT with Colledge while Tauscher has to cut to Wells spot trying to pick up blitzer but failed.
7. Davenport dropped the check down pass.
8. Tauscher and Clifton not handling outside speed rushers
9. Davenport stopped short because Wells went to block MLB and Spitz could not get to left of NT who made tackle to the left.
10. Favre to Martin but Davenpoort missed block in protection.
11. Good run blocking

End of first Quarter

12. Franks burned on outside rush.
13. Nice blocks on play where defense interfered with Driver.
14. Blitz at Tauscher. Jennings not quite ready for the hot read.
15. Nice protection. Pass off Driver's hands in endzone.
16. 4+2 quick pass Jennings defended in crowd.

2:12 Two minute drill

17. Coston whiff on block; Gado up middle
18. Rodgers pulled it down and ran.
19. 3+2 Good protection on throw to Gardner.
20. Check down swing pass to Gado but he did not get out of bounds.
21. DE burns Coston around end for sack.
22. Rodgers scrambles out of bounds forcing punt.

The coverage did not show the Packer line always but the line play was not as bad as my initial impression. I consider the following factors important.

A) Facing a 3-4 defense. They only did that twice last year.
b) The blitz was moved around but the linemen picked up one guy and the RB should have had the other.
c) This zone blocking requires linemen to turn their hips and that traditionally leads to loss of leverage.
d) Wells has a tough job and sometimes guesses wrong.
e) Tony Fisher would have been bery helpful for his blitz pick up skills.

Things are not as bad as my initial impression.
