You know, I kinda like that our uni's haven't changed much since then.

No idea. This was from a series of photo slideshows that the GBPG is doing and was the third batch I looked at after the 1965 and 66 team photo shoots. I was amazed this was a home game at Lambeau, given how low the seating is in that endzone.

Rams game slideshow is here: http://packersnews.greenbaypressgazette.com/apps/pbcs.dll/gallery?Avis=U0&Dato=20111012&Kategori=PKR0804&Lopenr=110120806&Ref=PH

i think the seating was really low in both endzone, and higher a long the sidelines. it wasn't a real "inclosed" bowl until later on

OK, but where is that building looming through the goalposts then? Because in the B&W shot, its all parking lot.

you first picture must have been taken in the late 60's or early 70's

heres the picture of the sneak during the icebowl. the sneak happened in the south endzone, so we are looking north.

notice the same center row and the telephone pole in behind the stands on the right, also the set of stands sticking out on the top right with the flagpole. but there's no office building. so the building must have been added sometime after 67

OK. Your first picture shows the building at the bottom of the picture. I then assume the Ice Bowl shot is either showing us the opposite end OR we are too close to field level to see the building behind the stands and through the crowds/clouds/static.

The Rams game is from 1966 according to GBPG.

i don't think that building in the first picture is the same as the building in the overhead picture

the building in the overhead pic looks to be the same height as the buses parked next to it. your picture clearly shows a taller building

Shadow of building looks like it might be a smidge taller, but hard to say. More troubling is the big scoreboard/aux press box between it and the seats. That could have come after the Rams game I suppose.

The problem you guys are running into is that most of the Ice Bowl photos have been doctored over the years. There were clouds of steam coming from every player's and fan's mouth and even rising off the players themselves. Most of the published photos available now have been enhanced to remove all of those lighter areas, which must have obscured the building in Red's photo. Here is another from the same play in the Ice Bowl, clearly showing the building in the background:

I'm wondering if that first photo supplied by Patler isn't old City Stadium near GB East High School?

Do you mean the initial one posted by PBMax? The only picture I have posted is from the Ice Bowl. I think his and mine show the same building.

I really have no idea for sure, but I suspect it is the same building that is at the bottom of the aerial photo you posted. The bleachers in that end zone aren't very high. The building might be only about 3 stories.

OK, you made me drag out the older Packer Yearbooks, and this is what I see from various photos in the Yearbooks 1960-1969:

- There appears to be about 20 rows of seats in that end zone section.
- Most of those rows are actually below the level of the parking lot, the "rise" above ground level is minimal, just a few rows.
- The building appears to be a two-story (maybe 3 story) office building built in the early 1960s, perhaps '61 or '62.
- Yes, that low office building does rise significantly above the upper most level of the stands in the end zone since the field was so much below grade.

Something else interesting:

That section of taller stands on the right in PBMax's 1st photo (with the powerline transformer pole rising behind it) and showing through the arms of the official signaling touch down in the Ice Bowl photos, was not part of the regular stands. It was a separate section of stands erected on the parking lot and spaced a fair distance behind the regular bleachers. The flagpole in front of it is in the parking lot, perhaps 10-20 feet behind the end zone bleachers.

Seeing this reminds me that they removed temporary bleachers when they completed enclosing the bowl.

More importantly, I think the Packers were housing an ICBM during the Cold War for increased funding. See the shadow from nowhere on the left of my building in red's photo. That's probably why the heaters went out before the Ice Bowl. Government construction.

Or nuclear test.

Sure, A lot of those Ice Bowl Pics were doctored. In addition to removing all the steam, in some picutures, they even removed some of the more objectionable fans.

alright

so in my overhead picture we are looking south, correct? is that what we're come to?

but is that a giant scoreboard on top of the stands and right in front of the building?

and what the hell is that big shadow anyways?

I'm not sure what shadow you are talking about, and this is just a wild assed guess, but

A lot of photos of football fields from the '60s and '70s show huge, unexplained shadows; but there is an explanation. In those days, NFL and college games were often covered by the Goodyear Blimp. They commonly had aerial pictures from the blimp during the games. You would see its shadow pass over the field quite commonly. For a while they had several blimps, and one was always in South Bend for home ND games which were taped and rebroadcast Sunday mornings. It would come on Fridays and tie up in South Bend Friday night. It was common for that blimp to then go to an NFL game in the midwest on Sunday.

The blimp used to be quite a show at football games because lens technology at the time required it to be quite close. They used to let it fly right over the stadiums, from end to end. Now lenses let them stay much higher, and farther away, and things aren't allowed to fly directly over the stadiums.

The shadow you see might be from the blimp, from which the picture may have been taken.

i suppose you're gonna tell me that those are the same ones involved in in the "navy" tests on the ionosphere , that some people think is a the way that gateways into other dimensions will be opened allowing not ET's but extra dimensional beings in, which will then meet up with other "ED's" that have already infultrated our government. of course this will all lead to the enslavement of humankind

Great pic PB. I always wondered why the Rams don't use that white/blue outfit for their throwback unis. They always go with the yellow/blue which is ok but I still remember the tough games the mid-60's Rams played with Roman Gabriel at qb vs the Pack.

I agree. Though I like the current Ram unis just fine, both previous versions are great. So I do not know why they would avoid white and blue, except that their current fans know those unis and don't remember the older ones.

Rams also have one of the great helmet logos.

They were supposed to be dismantled in mid-2000s. But a short Google search did not shed any more light on their current status. But I am glad someone picked up on the reference.
