From rotoworld:

Colts waived DT Daniel Muir.
It's perhaps a sign that rookie Drake Nevis is over his back injury. One could argue that Muir was outplaying Antonio Johnson and Fili Moala.

Colts are going young and Muir can play.

Backup DL guys are hard to find in November; hope Packers pick him up!

I think it would be a great idea to bring him in, work him out and see if he can be part of the rotation. Our DL needs help and I dont care where it might come from.

maybe Muir can be the Howard Green of this year!! waived during the season, signed to help solidify the DL and win a championship!!

Seeing how he was here in 2007 it might not hurt to kick the tires.

Who do you cut to make room for him?

Brad Jones maybe? Even with Zombo injured, the guy barely plays. Plus, they have two mildly intriguing prospects behind him in So'oto and Lattimore. Depending on how close Clifton is to returning, perhaps Ray Dominguez.

What head stomping incident are we talking about? I can only recall Albert Haynseworth stomping on someone's head.

Infinitely better than fat Albert. Worth a shot, but the shock going from the zero win Dolts to the zero loss Pack may be to much for his system.

I don't really think the Packers have a shortage of healthy D-linemen, unlike last year when they picked up Green. I'm also not sure that a released backup D-lineman from the worst team in the league is better than the guys we have now.

Well, maybe for a few snaps in the rotation - the question is this: is he better than CJ Wilson? If the answer is "yes," bring him on board.

Not to mention....as I've been noting since the playoff loss vs the Cards....Brad Jones is junk

The fact that the Colts have released him doesn't speak well - that team is lost on both sides of the ball. It doesn't mean he might not work out here though, maybe he'll get a call.

It also speaks to the knotty relationship between GM and the coaching staff. Muir was brought in, and other players let go, when Polian (not Dungy, Caldwell or the DC) decided they must get larger at DT in order to be more stout against the run.

It's really disappointing that Brad Jones is so crappy. I think I and a lot of others had high expectations for him.

Perhaps, but Walden probably played his best game against the Chargers. I'd like to see if So'oto can platoon with the other OLBs as well, and maybe just maybe improve the pass rush.

smuggler
11-10-2011, 03:33 PM
Thing about So'oto is this: He's a poor man's Demarcus Ware (how poor a man, I do not know).

He would need to rush the edge in Matthew's spot in order to be effective. He's an elephant. Can Clay perform those non-rushing duties well enough that Vic could rush from the offense's right?

We only have 5 healthy D linemen right now without Neal. I hope he can return soon.

Typically, 3-4 defenses only have 5 DL active on game day anyway. Quality is the problem, not quantity. I don't believe Daniel Muir would upgrade the quality. Mike Neal would.

Muir when he did start was the worst starting defensive lineman in the NFL. I doubt anyone is running their waiver in for this guy.

And that's the hope around here (and on other Packer forums), isn't it, that the return of Neal will cure a lot of our defensive ills. For our sake I hope you guys are right but we really haven't seen enough of this young man's play to be certain, do we?

As I said, to me the question comes down to whether Muir would be better than the Packers' worst defensive lineman, who at this point seems to be CJ Wilson.

according to Rodger McGuin, I mean Bob McGinn, CJ effectively passed Jarius Wynn on the depth chart.

I think they have a grand total of 2 defensive linemen worth a damn, well, plus Mike Neal in the wings.
