Both ESPN Chicago and the Chicago Sun Times report that Jay Cutler's fractured right (throwing) thumb may end his season.
Per the Sun Times' Sean Jensen, "there is a fear" that Cutler may not play again this year, but "there will be more tests." ESPN Chicago's Mike Wright is "hearing" that there is "a chance" this could be it for Cutler's 2011 season. Wright also reports that Cutler will require surgery, so this is clearly a more significant thumb break than Ben Roethlisberger's. Caleb Hanie would take over as the Bears' starter, much to Mike Martz's chagrin.

Saw that earlier... too bad for the Bares, he was really playing his best ball.

A lot of conflicting info. Chicago Tribune now saying Cutler will miss 6-8 weeks. That means reg. season is toast at best, no playoffs at worst...(if they make it).

What a wuss. First he needs to use his knee and now his thumb. Whatever, Caleb Hanie doesn't even need to use his brain.

Brett hurt his thumb in preseason '99 (I was at the game in camp randall) and broke it in 2003 on his magical run. The '99 injury was pretty severe.
Rub some dirt on it and tape it up.
Big Ben has one too.

One of my all time favorite Brett quotes (talking about his broken thumb), "I always figured if the bone wasn't sticking out of the skin, you could play. That's what they made tape for," he said. "But maybe I'm different."

The guy is really a tool, see him on the sidelines yelling and throwing shit when his receiver fell down? Matt Flynn could play on Christmas.

He will still be able to ride the stationary bike on the sidelines

I wonder if Lovie is starting to comb through the free agent scrap pile. There is a QB in Kiln, MS who might be waiting for a phone call.

Speaking of which, he supposedly has re-proposed.

Aren't you guys being a little hard on Jane Cutler? Oops sorry wrong name.
I ment Janet.

favre had one of his worst years though with that broken thumb
speaking of which
are we taking bets on favre wanting to join the bears? seems like the right move if he is trying to completely shit on the packers and us fans

I think the Bears are making the right move here. With their rather easy remaining schedule, they can probably win enough games (3) to make the playoffs, and have Cutler's thumb healed by then instead of in a cast.

i don't know joe, i think they're gonna be fighting for their playoff lives
you gotta figure detroit will take 1 wildcard spot. so the bears will be in a fight for that last spot. they can't afford to lose too many games
could it really be that 3 teams could make the playoffs out of what was the worst division in football just a couple years ago? that's pretty cool
i do think cutler sitting out is the right move though. you break that throwing thumb and you're in big trouble. its tough enough trying to grip the ball in the cold of chicago, take away that thumb and you've got issues. let caleb start and just hand the ball off to forte

Caleb did way better than Cutler in the NFCG IMO. I think they can win with him.
