As funny as that would be, I think its a safe bet it will never happen. There was a news item not too long ago that certain members of their fans were being listed as a gang by law enforcement. Sensible or not, the NFL would prefer another show of skin.

Unfamiliar, except that I have possibly heard them on the radio and then only will find out who they were much, much later. Has happened with Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Mumford and Sons, Coldplay, Blind Melon and The Presidents of the United States of America. Some of these revelations were more welcome than others.

Is Amy Winehouse as good a singer as her You Tube stuff seems to suggest? I never knew her work, only the controversy, but when she passed I played a couple of her videos and was pleasantly surprised.
I would be OK with Clapton. I saw him in concert with Stevie Ray Vaughn and SRV blew him away in a large venue. Unfortunately, as with Winehouse, its going to be tough to book.

A Weekend at Winehouse's theme for the halftime show.
It's got the retro nod to the 80's movies
It's got the zombie nod to the current trend
It's got the sounds that the older folks can relate to

i stopped watching any kind of halftime show years ago. i don't watch pregame shows anymore either.
You know, those shows are really stupid and pointless, but here's another take: Throughout my entire youth, the Packers were really quite awful, and, with the exception of actually winning a playoff game in '82 and despite putting up a fight in the Divisional loss at Dallas, I knew the team never had a chance to make to the NFCC game, let alone a Superbowl. So the whole concept of the Superbowl was otherworldly. That was something the Raiders, Redskins, Steelers, Cowboys, and Niners played in and won and the Vikings and Bills lost.
So in 1996 when the Packers were in the Superbowl and all the pregame shows had pointlessly stupid pregame interviews with players, their wives, their dogs, and their tattoo artists, I was stunned with a overwhelming sensation of the surreal - this can't be the Packers getting this attention, can it? This is not for us, etc. etc. So I don't watch the pregame programs or the halftime show (we play snow football at halftime), but I have them on and love the idea that these programs are geared at least 1/2 towards the Packers and it signifies that, impossibly, the Packers are in the Superbowl itself.

In 1996, I felt much the same way. Same as when the Browns would get a coveted game writeup in SI, or a single-game of coverage on Divisional Weekend by Zimmerman. But with the TV stuff, after watching, it was like popcorn or cotton candy. You had been eating forever but were still not full.
Slowly, but surely I abandoned these programs because it wasn't worth the time. I do miss some interesting stuff (like the piece on Jones' early life on Thanksgiving) but have many more important things to attend to. And contrary to game announcing and halftime shows, which obviously need to be directed at non-football fans, I cannot fathom a casual fan sitting through any significant part of a four hour pregame.

This is pretty obvious, isn't it? Game is in Indiana, so who else but Indiana's favorite son, John Cougar Mellencamp. He fits the usual protocol of having a long career and being past his prime, but he actually had a pretty good album in 2010 that no one heard, so he still has chops and can put on an energetic show. Mellencamp can also pair pretty well with a female singer with younger appeal -- for me, that would be Missy Elliot, but I could see Adele or someone like that.
Cripes, this is easy, why aren't I running the League?

Delbert was sort of a joke. He wouldn't be right for the SB. He'd rock the joint, but nobody knows who he is. He's never had a record company/management that could get a hit on his enormous musical talent. He remains a legend in the business, but unknown to the public.
If I was commish...
I'd get Clapton. Eric could put on a killer show and most of the sheeple know who he is.
Eric and Sheryl Crowe mebbe?

Thanks KY, though I bow to Iron Mike on all things football.
As to the White Stripes, poor Meg White has some serious anxiety issues, so I wouldn't bank on her being able to do a Super Bowl gig.
Sure, Clapton is superb, but for the Super Bowl, that quintessential American event, you need an American band to headline (unless you agree, a la U2, to have your frontman wear the Stars and Stripes in the liner of his/her jacket). This is our chance to showcase Us. And if you're in Indi-friggin-ana, there's really only one act worthy of consideration.
So I'm sticking with Johnny Cougar. Well, ain't that America?

Clapton only should get the gig if brings Buddy Guy out to play with him. Slowhand needs a good kick in the ass to really play and Buddy can still do it.

Oh yeah. Eric would definitely have Buddy in Indy. Just a quick run down 65, baby. hell, Eric would probably bring Hubert Sumlin down there & give him a payday, too. EC takes care of all the Chi blues guys.
