Last season after week 15 I said Packers would win the SB (also due to my daughter helping me predict this); after week 15 this season I say we lose to the Saints in the playoffs.

This loss had nothing to do with Jennings being injured. Injuries came early last season, this season late.

Lady fortuna has left us & our high octane offense can't function without an O-line plus some sort of help from our defense.

It's only one game and not yet time to panic but that was about as ugly as I've seen in a long time... well at least since Dolphins/Redskins last year. Drops and injuries on offense (Jennings and O-Line) combined with injuries and overall lack of stoutness on D were the major factors in us losing this game. Do need to give credit to the Chiefs who came out emotional and played a whale of a game.

In an odd way, I am in a way, pleased. The Packers needed a wakeup call; the perfect season mania just added pressure.
This flat performance could have shown up in a playoff game. Better now than then!
Now, McCarthy has a motivating tool to use as they near the playoffs : "See? This is what happens when we get overconfident."
The Packer's boiler room needed a bit of stoking - and this has to put some fire in their bellies. I'd love to see them come out against the Bears ready to show this performance was just a fluke.
Time to regain the eye of the tiger.

If our o would have gotten the lead like they should have we would have gotten our picks. Our d and st did well, our o was poor, especially oline prior to injuries. I think the early bs off pi calls on nelson threw them of a bit, but that might be an excuse.

Well, I think the blueprint has been laid out on how to at least slow the Packers offense down.

Play nine or even ten in the box but only rush four or five and try to confuse Rodgers with coverages the best you can. Hopefully, you can get the Packers receivers to drop four, five or six passes and there you go .....
And when you are on offense .... DON'T TURN THE BALL OVER.

Offensively, Rodgers needs to get rid of the ball quicker. More short routes to soften up the defense, then hit them with the big play. Every offensive play doesn't have to consist of four verticals ....

That being said, the critical problem with this team is that the defense is an absolute mess. If they can't generate turnovers, they are pathetic. They are what they are and I don't believe Capers and the defensive assistants have any answers .... a better team today would have scored 30+ on the Packers D today.

Unfortunately, I think at some point in the playoffs the Packers offense will not be able to put up 35+ and the defense's ineptness will bring about the ultimate downfall of this team.

Brees is going to shred this D. No, the sky is not falling. But we now know, more than ever, that if our offense is 100% on, we'll have no chance to hang with good teams.

I'm ok with a loss. Takes the pressure off significantly and clearly identified areas of improvement. Couldn't see it on tv - but KC secondary must've blanked our receivers as Arod held onto the ball many times on 3rd/4th options.

Don't know why in god's name M3 didn't challenge the touchback. I had the entire bar screaming for it...

Defense was pathetic. Did the Chiefs even punt? Sure - holding them under 20 and great red zone defense - but wow - made Orton look like he played for the Bears again.

Drops. Drops and more drops.

Arod sure gets frustrated with the drops. He then became less effective in accurate passes until the last drive.

I, for one, loved the onside attempt. Defense hadn't done much except on rush defense and thought it'd be the adrenalin shot needed. Others disagree. Showed me that M3 wanted it.

Have to give it to KC. They're D played their asses off. And Pack just played flat and had way to many mistakes.

Fuck it. We don't play away from Lambeau for awhile.

Maybe he can have another heart-to-heart with them, and agree to release earlier, if they'll agree to stop sucking.

I think it was Clifton who said, "Look. We need to play better, but you need to get rid of the ball quicker". Fire up the instant replay!

The undefeated talk was fun while it lasted. Would have been a great accomplishment but in the end a Super Bowl trophy is what it's really all about.

This takes the pressure of McCarthy to not rest the starters during the last 2 games. Get as many players as healthy as possible and try to shore up the defensive screw ups as much as possible. They really need a healthy Cliffy back at LT. Bulaga is a must at RT. Jennings should be back by the 1st playoff game. Bishop back and healthy should improve the D.

While no loss is good, back in '62 Lombardi was kind of relieved when they lost to the Lions on turkey day. His comment to the press after the loss was "I think we will be a better football team for having lost this one," Lombardi said after the game. "That business about an undefeated season was a lot of bunk. Nobody in his right mind could have expected it." If a perfectionist like Lombardi had this kind of comment after the teams only loss, then I think McCarthy should instill this attitude to the '11 Pack.

Great run B. Who's starting the Game Day Thread next week?

Not sure; do I get some sort of pension plan via Packerrats for the One year run ? :)
Perhaps we should take nominations and have some sort of vote....

The person who steps up will get the advantage of four home games in a row I think so it looks to be a fairly easy job the rest of the year

Lots of bad today but AJ Hawk sucks ... all those wide runs. He's so average to below average... I'm tired of "steady". Contrary to popular belief, he's NOT always in the right spot.

Packers were out played but especially out coached this game. I think the whole team expected the Chiefs to lay down for them. Typical for stubby, he doesn't prepare them for the "easy" games.

How do you win 20 in a row and beat only playoff teams? Do we really need to spend time breaking down the illogic of this statement?

Name sounds familiar but don't remember him at all... who was he?

Backup QB for the Colts, a travesty of a team that walloped the Packers in a shootout in 97. A game that by all rights, the Colts should have lost by 20.

Don't forget the Lions game at Detroit.

In summary, it's all your fault and had you given me the week off on the GD thread last week we'd have won this week and then went on to 19-0

You mailed it in! Frontrunner!

So am I the only one who thought our d played well, the way its built too? My disappointment was no turnovers, but they minimized points. If our o would have gotten the lead like they should have we would have gotten our picks. Our d and st did well, our o was poor, especially oline prior to injuries. I think the early bs off pi calls on nelson threw them of a bit, but that might be an excuse.

I have few complaints about the Defense. At least, no new ones. The Chiefs fired their Head Coach and he served as his own offensive coordinator. So the Packers D faced a new QB and new gameplan with no film on it at all. It was bound to look ugly at times. That is not to say they are world beaters with film, but alot of the misalignment stuff would be gone.

The one weakness that showed through clearly was ILB. Smith was horrible at times in both run support and misdirection and he offered little in coverage. Hawk didn't help in coverage at all. There were open zones in coverage in the middle of the field all game.

The offense has far fewer excuses, though it gained more of them as they lost O lineman.

I have not seen the replay, but most of the good coverage I saw was man on man. So the Packer receivers outside of Finley were not doing much against a team that does have a few guys who can cover. The secondary for the Chiefs is not terrible by any stretch. Most teams struggle to find that kind of coverage. Even the Giants didn't have it. Nelson couldn't get open deep and I assume that is because they could put a safety over the top on him. Should have left Jones open though.

Packer receivers (including the main offender Finley) had too many drops, but many of those were brutal targets. Rodgers was not accurate and he had a tough time finding a hole to through to.

This was a game the run game should have helped more, but the one time they went with 3 rushes, they ended up shy of a first by half a yard.

Agreed. Newhouse or not, there were times Rodgers was back there for a while, and couldn't see to find anyone downfield. Nelson suffered from drawing the top coverage with Jennings gone.

I thought KC had lost a pile of DB's to injury?

Hmm.. I know I've been into DJ Smith so not trying to sound like a homer, but I thought he played pretty well again. Especially the run game. No one was home on screens and I suspect he was at least partially responsible there. Really thought AJ was lost the entire game outside of a play or two; that really hurt on plays that got bounced outside for good yardage.

Agree with the first paragraph 100%... had all the ingredients for an upset.

Yeah this game was lost in the trenches. The Chiefs owned the line of scrimmage. They didn't have to blitz to get pressure. If we didn't blitz, we had to pray a miracle to keep them from getting a completion, because our four guys weren't going to get a sniff of Orton. Not only is Rodgers back there running around with his head on a swivel, but the Chiefs were able to drop at least 7 guys in coverage on every play.

Maybe we could have snuck it out if we'd used the run properly. Grant was running well in this game.

It's clear that the Chiefs are just more talented on the lines, and in games like that, you are always going to suffer, even with better skill guys.

I disagree. We missed a body on the line more than we thought we would. But the pass rush has been poor or worse almost all season long. Pickett might be more than a JAG but he's only slightly more.

Actually the fact that the Chiefs aren't very good on offense is what held them to 6 in the first half.

Kyle Orton got run out of Denver because he was good between the 20s but terrible in the red zone. That and he had turnover problems. Too bad we only saw the first aspect of his game manifest itself yesterday.
