Pulling out all stops in 2012, I can say this is one of the most disappointing UW Badgers teams in a while.
This is due to one thing; Great Expectations.

For the first time in my lifetime, the Badgers have what could be considered a Franchise College QB, and we only have him for a year.

Poised for an undefeated season and a shot at a national champion and with all the chips aligned, the Badgers were badly outcoached against an inferior Michigan State Team and then played about as poorly as they could against a marginal Ohio State Team.

Yup....we bounced back...........here we are ...National Title Aspirations gone and another Rose Bowl.

Call us spoiled.....it might be true.

To compete with Oregon, we need mistake free coaching, no turnovers, and some effective Red Zone Defense.

Expect a boatload of Yards on both sides today. Monte my favorite draft pick 2012...for the Packers......Ball breaks the all time touchdown record on a single season.

Russell.......the best QB we'll ever see in the Cardinal and Red...Wilson...will throw for another two to three TD's. The Badgers put up at least 35 points on the Ducks.

Unfortunately, our defense is going to get ripped apart today. The undiscipline on this side of the ball is going to ring true today. We're not stopping Oregon...........they put up at least 40Pts on the Badger

TAKE IT TO THE BANK

Oregon 48
Badgers 34

Let the Power of the Whammy be born in College Football Today !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Badgers Jordy jr got a TD already.

Ducks are realy trying to key on Monte Ball so far and that let Russell Wilson walk in for TD number two

Bretsky
01-02-2012, 04:41 PM
The Badgers just forced one more punt than I expected them to this half

Bretsky
01-02-2012, 04:43 PM
Wonder if Oregon Packer Fan is at this game ? My gut tells me he is

Bretsky

Dear BB

Your defense stinks
Your Offense is great

When faced with fourth and three again at the Ducks forty....please go for it. The Ducks will score either way....the short or long field does not matter

Bretsky
01-02-2012, 05:01 PM
Oregon seems HellBent to not let Monte Ball score on the run. They are packing everybody in and focusing on him

I would bet you are right. There is no way with 2 seconds you can spike UNLESS everyone is set and the QB is already in position under center. One word count, snap and spike. The QBwould need to watch the arm of the ref and not rely on the whistle. The Badgers did not appear to do any of this except perhaps have all but QB set at whistle.

The alternative is to call a play on the fly which they obviously choose not to do . Unsure whether they have that kind of thing in their arsenal.

The biggest advantage Oregon had was TEAM SPEED. WI had no answer especially for their speedy offensive players. If Bucky wants to compete in these big bowl games they have to recruit speedy players too instead of concentrating on big bruisers to pound the ball behind behemoth linemen.

- Was that a safety? (why did we call a timeout to challenge - or was it not reviewable - that timeout really hurt us)
- missed FG hurt (add 3 and 2 for safety and the last drive is a FG to win)
- can't believe how fast Oregon was and how quick they scored.
- Why not run it 2 on 3rd/4th and 1

With 2 seconds left, there is no way to get that off unless Wilson watches him while under center. The moment his arm twitches, he needs to call a one word snap and then spike. You cannot count on a slow clock operator and you can't wait for the whistle (for instance, what if the official moves his arm a half second before blowing the whistle?).

You would need to practice a limited time quick spike OR be able to call a hail mary play on the fly.

Or stop using your timeouts like they are Tic Tacs.

Harlan Huckleby
01-03-2012, 01:11 PM
Or stop using your timeouts like they are Tic Tacs.

ya, this is the really valid criticism. BB used a timeout early in the half on a first down play - didn't like formation. Better to take a delay of game penalty there than burn a precious timeout in close game. And the second timeout was a pure brain fart.

I've defended BB because the team was well prepared, motivated and executing a good game plan. His "game management" overall is not bad, but he blew the timeouts. Again.

pbmax
01-03-2012, 01:59 PM
Another thing that kills me, but this happens in the pros as well, is how players are not clock aware about when or if to go out of bounds. Its not fair to lay the blame for this on Jared A., all he needed to do once he picked up a first down was get OOB. There is nothing to be gained from an extra yard or two at the expense of a dozen seconds or a TO.

sharpe1027
01-03-2012, 04:10 PM
Congrats to Oregon, they are a very good team and its great to see them win it after 100 years of futility.

Two personal gripes with the game.

1) Oregon's lineman should have been called for holds about 10 different times that I saw; it could be more than that in total. Either that or you can now hook a defender that has beat you by wrapping your arm around them. If that is the case, then the one holding call they did make was not a hold.

2) If you are going to change a ruling on the field, you should make it clear to the players and coaches that the ruling is being overturned. Thus, when one official clearly and unquestionably signals that the play is out of bounds and the clock is stopped, any decision to overrule this call must be made very clear to everyone. You don't just signal for the clock to start again without clearly notifying both teams. There is no reason to be looking at the officials once the call is made (unless teams now need to expect every call to be reversed at any time and without warning). Terrible job in a crucial situation.

Pugger
01-03-2012, 06:19 PM
I have a question about the game last night. Late in the 2nd quarter Toon got out of bounds but the game clock didn't stop and it took a few seconds before BB realized he had to burn another time out. What is up with that? They said it was because he wasn't going forward when he went out??? I thought if you go out at any time the clock stops no matter what direction you are going - or is this just in college??? :cnf:
