View Full Version : OFFICIAL GREEN BAY PACKERS VS NY GIGANTES GAMEDAY THREAD - DIVISIONAL ROUND EDITION
mission

Two weeks of waiting and we're finally here folks! As usual, we'll take a look at the Vegas component of the game and how that could correlate with the outcome.
This game opened at Packers -9. For the noobs out there, this means that if you bet on the Packers to win the game, you have to win by at least 10 points. Anyway, so obviously the entire country has been all over the Giants this week and pushed the line down to -7.5. The -9 was just BEGGING people to take the Giants. How could you lay 9 points when the last game played between these two teams was decided by three points?!?! Giants, lock of the week!!
Not so fast.
This is one of those that appears to be a Vegas trap game. They got a ton of money on the Giants, the line moved a point and a half and they won't bring it down to -7. Money is still coming in on Giants. Home teams are 6-0 against the spread (ATS) in this year's playoffs and that's not going to change today. Forget about your Cinderella stories, folks... Vegas knows what they're doing.
The last two games I've wrongly predicted the Packers to come out and establish the run with guys like Saine back in the mix. Now, with Starks back, and the world expecting Rodgers to show why he's league MVP ---- I'm predicting a big run day to keep the pass rushers honest. They might even run for over 300 yards on the back of John Kuhn and Ryan Grant. Wouldn't be surprised.
Temperatures around 26 with winds between 10-16 MPH... it's going to be cold out there. I'm not betting this game but the Packers win 35-27 and cover to run the home team to 7-0 ATS.
GO PACK GO!! :cow:

This game is all about getting a 2-score lead. Make the Giants offense one-dimensional and interceptions will happen. If the Packers OL can protect Rodgers, the Packers should score in the 30's.
Make it Packers 34 Giants 24.

This is the year of the underdog. Giants in a laugher 42-28. Defense wins championships and the Pack can barely suit up 11nfl caliber players. I would guess we are close until Crosby misses a FG and then Ski torches Woodson for the fifth time and Nickel sets a record for 5td receptions.

The Media has been riding the Giants hard all week. Good, I say. The Packers have fed off of that all season. There was a stretch of games -- Lions, Giants, Raiders -- where pundits figured each one of those teams would surely be the team to end GB's perfect season and the Pack kept stepping up. Then no one figured they'd lose to the Chiefs and they did. They love the negative press.
Everything suggests a high scoring affair so I'll say 27-14 Packers. Defense plays with uncharacteristic abandon after getting asses chewed on for 2 weeks. Burnett sticks to his responsibilities and nabs an INT for being a good boy when the Jints try to go up top. Jarett Bush gets a sack.

I had a dream I was in Singapore today and kept trying to find a place to watch the game. Everywhere I went either didn't exist, I couldn't find it, or was having issues getting the game on their satellite. Was very frantic from what I can remember. Also the Packers were leading 18-16 in the fourth quarter from the little data I could get on my phone.

I've read some stuff from people up there tailgating that it's a beautiful day and not much air movement. Weather report has the wind a little stiffer than what it was previously predicted (8mph) so we'll see.
Do agree with DY that it should lead to a couple Manning INTs if it really hurts anyone.

I read that windy conditions contributed to Eli not having such a great home record in the old stadium. Said the new stadium didnt have the same wind and they related this to his big year. Not sure how much was true but I could see how something being slightly different than expected could throw Eli off.

I still think this helps our defense more than it hurts our offense.
I don't agree. Our offense is predicated on precision passing. Manning likes to chuck it up more to his big receivers and let them make plays. I think their receivers have better ball skills on the deep ball. If it's windy, both teams will be playing the run more--which I think will leave corners on an island more. Our receivers are good, but we don't have a guy like Hakeem Nicks. It hurt us in the game in 2007 and helped the Giants. Mainly, Plaxico Burress.

Man, that must have been some bong, dude. LOL - 300 yards rushing. 30 more like. Packer will have to score 40+ to win. Packers 42-38, optimistically. Giants 35, Packers 21 realistically. Too much uncertainty/rust in key positions: Clifton, Bulaga, Jennings, Woodson, Williams, Shields, Bishop, all big question marks for this one.

All bout ball security today and execution. Teams that have lost in the playoffs - lost the turnover battle.
I'm thinking a big 2nd Q for the Pack after coming out a little flat (down 10). Arod goes for 350+ and 3TDs. Peprah and Shields get INTs. Cobb has a few large returns. Jennings has a slow day but Jordy makes up for it.

It's been said that Rodgers is one of the better throwers on windy days because of his arm tools, that he can "slice the ball" however he wants a la Marino. I was just combining that with the "Eli had problems in the old windy stadium" meme that Mad brought up.
Plus, a strength of Eli's game is going deep. Physics would seem to favor those throws less. I know Rodgers has those tools in his belt but he's also better at the short and intermediate throws that would seem to be much less affected by wind.

They blew the coverage and he stopped n the hole. Rodgers lofts it a bit and he can recover. Bit of an odd play developemnt. But he was wide open and should have worked.
O Line and Cliffy look OK so far. Wells missed a block on the screen or it was going far.
