The balloon made it 24 miles (km maybe?) up I believe, technically not space by NASA's definition, but it works for me. However at that height, the parachute they included was enough to bring it back to earth mostly intact (not sure of Lego Spaceman was still attached) and allow video to be retrieved.

FWIW we are beginning to build a shrine to lego spaceman (due to budget constraints we are using megablocks). He is on the talk show circuits starting monday with "Good day, eh' and finishing friday with "take off, eh'.
