Unlike some of our more emotionally distraught 'rats, I'm looking forward to this game. There should be more scoring than the game 4 years ago. I like the Patriots in this one. I think the Giants defense has gotten a little too much credit for their win over the Packers. The Packers self-destructed in some ways that had little to do with what the Giants were doing to them defensively.

Call it Patriots 27 Giants 23

You must have dipped into a package with a powdery white substance. NE played Tebow after he shot his load vs the Steelers and was not the better team vs the Ravens IMO. The giants ripped up the Pack in GB and withstood the Niners sick defense. They had the tougher road and survived. I say NY wins and we all talk about how it should have been the Pack for the next 6 months.

I am hoping for a tie and that somehow the playoff OT rules blow up in the league's face. Not that I am bitter or anything ...

Hoody Genius will have to pull one out of his @ss to defeat the Giants IMO; on paper the Giants are superior.
How the Pats will cover the Giants WR's in beyond me. Nicks was not there for the last game; he makes their WR core as good as any. This year Hoody Genius did as good of a coaching job as anybody in the NFL. NE is really not that good and Green Bay would blow that secondary up for unlimited points. Unfortunately our defense also sucked so bad it might have been the first Super Bowl with over 100 combined pts.

I gotta think Talent outdues the Genius today.

I think Bretsky meant Giants 30-27. I like the Giants in this one. The Pats defense sucks and Gronkowski's hurt...I doubt he plays the entire game. Giants 34 Patriots 21

The Pats and Packers, as I noted long ago, have a ton of similarities

Explosing offense
A OL that you hope hangs on but is grossly overmatched by the NYG DL
Horseshit Defense that needs turnovers to be successful
Minimal Pass Rush

Hoody will have to bring a genius game plan to win this one; I don't know how he stops all those weapons w/o a pass rush and below average secondary

Pats by 17. Back to a yawner Super Bowl where the commercials will be the talk at work on Monday.

Bretsky
02-05-2012, 01:10 PM
I'd be surprised if it isn't close

Brady > Manning
Giants RB > NE Running Backs
Giants WR >NE WR's
Pats TE > Giants TE
OL vs OL.....unsure

Giants DL > Pats DL
Giants DB > Pats DB

Hoody must devise a scheme that confuses Eli with a mixture of zone coverages and blitzes
Brady must have a great game

I expect the above two things to occur so I'm thinking this one is close

Fosco33

Giants 27
Pats 24

Pats go up early and lead at half. Giants pressure finally gets to Brady and Gronk is useless in 2nd half. Manning goes and gets it in the 4th.

Pat's D, like the GI Ants has gotten better as they got healthier. Hoody got two starters back in the last month and it made a difference (on LB and one DB).

If the Pats do what we couldn't - not drop passes or fumble the ball - they can win this. I don't really care. It is hard for me to get excited about this game because I have no real regard for either franchise.

Good Writeup

Hey, we have 20 freebies on JS

JS....aka....my favorite writer McGinn...had a great article on the Genius today and compared the NE way up with TT and Ron Wolf

If Hoody could actually draft like TT these guys would never lose. While's he's the greatest coach we've ever seen, and he orchestrates a ton of great draft day trades, as an evaluator of talent he is lacking. If he'd hit on a greater percentage of picks trying to defeat Hoody Genius would be scary to defeat

Gronk was 2nd round. Ravens then took Sergio Kindle who nearly killed himself after the draft walking down stairs.

Dickson was the Ravens pick in Round 3. Hernandez was Round 4, and the Ravens took Dennis Pitta after them.

Its hard to argue against Newsome's draft record even versus Hoody. Unless you need a QB.

Honestly, it's tough to argue Hoody is good at the evaluation of talent
He's the best coach in the history of the NFL
He makes a lot of nice draft day trades and finds free agents to sign that always help his team

Think about it this way - why not always play 12 (or 12+) guys on defense if the offense will lose time if they accept. Then with 00 seconds - it's only one play left since you can't end on def penalty.

Guess it's not a dead ball penalty...

Theoretically, it sounds good. Except you keep giving the offense at extra 5 yards and chances at competing the play anyways. It's not like a play hasn't been made against 12 men before. Coaches are never going to do that on purpose. I'm not sure Brady could have gotten it to the end zone without those 5 extra yards. He's kind of a noodle arm.

It's stupid to have this habit on walking the trophy through the players on the way to the podium. In the excitement of everything there's no telling what they will do for the camera. The trophy belongs to the team owner. He should get first possession of it. After the presentation, then hand it off to the players for their celebration.

Two or three times to force a hail mary is easy to envision and execute. I would rather face the noodle arm on a hail mary with 7 seconds left than give him 15 more yards to drive with 30 seconds more to do it.

I guess you didn't see it on NBC's coverage because I couldn't disagree more. No, a 22-year old rookie doesn't get to put his hands on and rustle a nearly 79-year old Hall of Famer and mess up his appearance as he is carrying out his official duties on live television. Spitting on the trophy was equally stupid. Both acts are dumb and disrespectful of the game.

No I did not see it. Nor am I stating that any act was respectful.

But I can envision a 22 year old kid mistakenly thinking he was having fun with the older player when he pats him on the back and ruffles his hair. I don't expect him to have the good sense to not act when he doesn't know how old or frail the player might be.

The same kind of behavior and interaction went on when they introduced this maneuver last year. It was obvious by the way the line is setup and filmed that the network and the NFL want the players to interact with the trophy's march. If it didn't happen to Starr (or whoever it was last year) it was inevitable. Someone is going to want to do something different and bolder. Just look at the cameras they were all carrying this year. Biff Henderson was there for Pete Rozelle's sake.

What doesn't make sense even in my broader context is the spitting. What is the joy or fun in that? Its a rhetorical question and I don't expect the viewers to know. But I hope someone asks him about it.

Pats by 17. Back to a yawner Super Bowl where the commercials will be the talk at work on Monday.

Boy do I suck at predicting games this year.

I thought all the luck that got the Giants to the Super Bowl would finally catch up with them. Instead the Giants played a great game. A couple of balls bounced the right way but nothing like past games. Eli played a hell of game. He deserved the MVP this time.

I'm not quite so sure. I would argue that brady played better than eli. the problem is they don't select a MVP, they just give an award to the winning team's qb. If the last second hail mary lands in a Patriot players' lap, Brady would be the MVP instead of Manning.

Giants 27
Pats 24

Pats go up early and lead at half. Giants pressure finally gets to Brady and Gronk is useless in 2nd half. Manning goes and gets it in the 4th.

Pats led at half, Gronk was useless, Brady was a bit more flustered in 2nd half and Manning went and got it in the 4th.

Deadspin has the video of the 12 man Giant prevent defense, but the takeaway is that the 12th guy is Tuck, running full speed off the field toward the top of the screen with his helmet off. If it was a purposeful call, it was great acting and timing by Tuck.

I really can't hate the Giants. What are you going to do when their receivers and quarterback hook up over and over again in an effort to belabor the point that the game is literally a game of inches. In the case of the Giants, fractional parts of inches. How many times in the NFC cold game did Eli's ball miss getting swatted and tipped only to drop precisely into Plaxico's fingertips while two feet dragged the last bit of green in the field? Until their last Super Bowl victory did we know a receiver could catch a ball against his helmet and hang on while dropping to the ground? And they were up to their old tricks again this post-season.

I don't know why I loathe the Patriots and tolerate the Giants. It has something to do with the tuck play in the Pat's case, and it may be, in the second case, that I don't know any Giants fans who annoy me.

One of the most outstanding runs in any NFL season for the once 7-7 NY Giants to capture this Super Bowl. Any Packer fan with half a brain should have been pulling for the GIANTS to win the prize after humiliating us in Lambeau Field.

I felt it, could really feel it coming and I got all wrapped up in the psyche game and psyched myself out. I awoke Monday morning hating that I went againsy simple analysis that the NY GIANTS would overcome all the NE Pat's and TOM BRADY and Bill Bilichick hype. Damn those silly talkin' heads. IGNORE them and go with your analysis. Go with your guts. Forget the it's their turn BS logic sort of logic.

IMO these are major factors in sidelining the PAT's chances.

a)The loss of TE Grokowski and all his productivity really hurt Tom Brady's chances of moving the sticks.
That put added pressure on Wes Welker. His productivity was only in the 60n yard range. TE Fernandez did as i expected produce in Gronkowski's absence of effectiveness.

FLASHBACK !!

See Our #2 WR or was he #1 ...Jordy Nelson and the fella that calls his number OUR teams HC Mike McCarthy !!?

Did Mike McCarthy think that Jordy Nelson's game would fall off with Jennings back? What happened in our playoff game in terms of those two McCarthy and Nelson? Were they on any page? Even hurt, Gronkowski was targeted and made one inspiring catch. Remember that catch and how did you feel after seeing that catch?

Mike McCarthy? Now there's a mystery??

Sorry for the diversion..................

b)Maybe? Tom Brady wanted it too badly !?

c) Maybe? All the late week bad press (Buffalo Uhh!?) might have annoid Brady and he lost his cool?

IN FINAL ANALYSIS.

In early December the New York GIANTS were in Dallas and down 12 points late in the fouth quarter of a MNF game. I had Dallas in my Pro Pickem'. I said to my gal. Got that one in the bag let's hit the sack. I turned the game off but somehow went back to it. Low and behold .... Tom Coughlan and Eli Manning were performing Magic ! The GIANTS looking dead in the water came a long ways back to salt down the Cowboys..secure a huge comeback win. The GIANTS began to believe in one another. They were inspired by a great Head coach, Tom Coughlan.A future HOFer now. A HC with tremendpus earned respect now. Tom Coughlan was the man. He made each GIANT player believe in the possible. That they could play better football.

After that late game setback and challenge in Dallas on that MNF game the GIANTS realized just how important that comeback was and could be!

THE GIANTS never let down from there and got on the momentum wave. It's a huge wave towords deciding outcomes.

Didn't we see that and PACKERS in last seasons playoffs and Super Bowl? A victory comes out of the dressing room.

A victory is inspired by team leaders and most importantly a HEAD COACH with the REAL stuff in him to inspire that 'we must win', attitude. The 'IT' factor.

Does Mike Mccarthy have that 'IT' factor?
