This Thursday. I believe he signs Tolbert of the Chargers.

I'll define a starter for another team as a player who started at least 3 games.

I said before the draft, but it will only happen if he loses Wells.

I'd rather they save the money to sign Rodgers, Jennings, Clay, Raji, and other stars to extensions. If Wells leaves, then I could see use signing a FA OC. Other than that, I'd rather they do nothing--except if for some unlikely reason a star 3-4 OLB becomes available.

Unless we need to replace Wells we won't sign a new free agent starter till 2013.

I agree, the most likely FA signing will be when it becomes certain that Wells will leave. They will give someone the money they were willing to spend on Wells.

I could see TT also sign a DE, LB or safety, but it will be a middle of the pack sort of guy who TT values higher than some others do. Someone he is willing to pay a few million to, but not a huge deal. That will come long after the FA rush is done.

I sort of think TT would look at someones bench for a center ala Ryan Grant. I dont ever see him signing a veteran offensive lineman. My thoughts.

Did Klemm start for the Pats? I knew Pickett was a starter for the Rams.

Bretsky said it required at least 3 starts with another team. Klemm was a reserve, but started 10 games for the Patriots according to NFL.com stats.

But if not Klemm, there was O'Dwyer signed 3/24/2005. He had over 100 starts for other teams.

I think Klemm did start and then was replaced and/or hurt midseason. P-F-R has him at 8 games started at LG. Replaced by Wells for a time.

We were discussing FAs signed by TT who had starts with other teams before coming to the Packers. That was Bretsky's premise in this thread, saying it required three such starts. Lurker wondered if Klemm started for the Patriots, and I said I believe he did start a significant number, but as a reserve.

I think we all remember his starts as a Packer, and Wells not much better performance as his replacement.

My bad, I misread the thread. And I actually forgot Wells was promoted behind him. Once, reminded, I recalled that I was dubious about his chances for success when McCarthy and Jags moved him to start at Center.

Free agency is where you find guys that are discounted by other teams for reasons that don't justify the discount and thus you get a decent value. Out spending 31 other teams for a guy everyone covets is what the Redskins do every year. This year they switched gears a little and did it via the draft.

While we're in this deep evaluation, is the verb "will" considered do be in the past, present, or future tense ? :)

Another issue to ponder, the meaning of "first".

I'm currently wondering when the ancient Egyptians will first construct one of those pyramids.

After the Draft TT will find one free agent gem by Training Camp.

Isn't that an oxymoron type consideration?

Yes...TT signed that GEM of a talented defensive player just prior to TC opening. Geeee no other team wanted to bring him in and so cheaply.

Yea sure.
