Four teams in the mix for Tebow

Posted by Mike Florio on March 21, 2012, 1:11 AM EDT

Comment woodbuck27:

Four teams currently are in the running: the Jaguars, the Jets, the Packers, and an unknown (for now) candidate.

Guiness are you in Owen Sound? If you are. We're not far from one another. I'm in Honey Harbour, Ont. North of Orillia, Ont. or 30 minutes NE of Midland, Ont.

I just heard in the morning news that it was 27 Degree Celcius or about 81 Deg. Fahrenheit in Collingwood,Ont. Colllingwood, Ont. is located just south of Wasaga Beach near the southern tip of Georgian Bay, Ontario.

Current temperture at 7:34 AM EDT 17 degrees Celcius or almost 63 degrees F.

It's going to be a scorcher for March. Maybe, we're experiencing record tempertures here in the Georgian Bay, Ontario area ?

OK ...... back to football.

What's ........going on in the NFL in Free Agency...with the Green Bay Packers !??

Ohh Thanks everyone for the interest you showed in this thread. It's still young... only born last Wed. March 13 around noontime. I hope it's benefitted many of you.

It's been said that the person that tries to keep everyone happy... will be a very unhappy.

I do my best 'within reason' to make you happy. (-:

I certainly can appreciate our GM Ted Thompson, in terms of my leadership and penchant for promoting 'good will' in my lifetime. Often he's placed in a position of some regret and he likely feels he has a thankless job.He isn't in the mess that Miami Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland appears to be in.

In these situations, as a fan I've learned to be aware of the spin. What's being driven by the media? You have to seperate the forest from the trees.

There's a similiar situation developing in Montreal with 'les Habitants'. The spin out of the media is the 'the Great Patrick ROY', Sir Patrick...will take over the Montreal Canadians at a management level. Possibly as GM of the Montreal Canadians or replace English speaking present HC Randy Cunneyworth. The French media and some hardcore 'French speaking ' HAB fans; cannot tolerate a non bi-lingual or uni-lingual English speaking man behind the Montreal Canadians bench. On another note the Montreal Canadians will miss the playoffs this year and that's unacceptable to HAB fans. Hockey is RELIGION in Montreal, Quebec. if the HABS lose the shit hits the fan. It's not a forgiving culture. (-:

I'm a Maritimer. I believe in the 'it's water off a ducks back' philosophy. What goes up...has to (or should) come down.

I believe rather than rule...be cool. (-:

Ted Thompson must know this:

You can satisfy some of the people some of the time;none of the people all of the time. Right now Packer GM Ted Thompson is trying to prepare for our draft. He's aware of and guarding the Packer purse.

I learn much paying attention to happenings around the entire NFL.

Right now 'the BIG Story Brewing' involves the Miami Dolphins and fan concerns based in media negative hype RE: the Dolphins administration; and in particular Jeff Ireland the Miami Dolphins GM. Alot of bad stuff coming out of Miami regarding this franchise now. I think Dolphin fans are pissed off.

Have a great day and love football and your Green Bay Packers ! LOVE Packerrats.

GO PACK GO !

And the Pack may be interested in Manny Lawson, I see this morning? A veteran OLB who apparently can cover and defend the run but is not so great rushing the passer. Are we going to see a platoon at ROLB?

Has Neal's suspension changed Thompson's game plan? Perhaps he's thinking now he might want to delve into a DE early in the draft, and if he signs Lawson he can take a chance on a more developmental guy.

Ah, prolly not. Teddy don't think that way. He'll see that the player with the most upside at his pick is, oh, say, a running back or a tight end, or a wide receiver, and he'll grab that guy.

Fritz, everytime I begin to salivate over a possible FA joining our team I just think CAP and what TT has remaining in his purse.

Next thought >>> NOT much will happen as our roster is at present.

TT has to make some very gut wrenching decisions or rely on our developmentle process. The money he has left below the CAP has to be used to sign our Draft class.

RE: Bringing in remaining bottom feeding FA's and non drafted inexperienced NFL FA's.

I believe he has to think along the lines that there are few diamonds in the rough. IMO, You can only coach up a certain level of talent.

The biggest thing is team morale and I hope that Ted Thompson is in touch with all that means.

These are just my opinions and as I've often expressed I cannot for the life of me figure out Ted Thompson. All I believe is that he has our team as his first interest and that is focused or concerned with another Super Bowl title.

Texans trade DeMeco Ryans; Players aren’t happy (http://blog.chron.com/ultimatetexans/2012/03/texans-trade-demeco-ryans-players-aren%e2%80%99t-happy/)

Any Team. Don't make moves that will piss off 'the FANS'. Worse...the roster players.

Houston Texan fans:

The tipping point and fans reaction to Miami Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland:

http://phinphanatic.com/2012/03/19/is-jeff-ireland-guilty/

Sometimes a GM does exactly what is necessary weighing in on alot of factors. 'Only' he 'really knows' what his blueprint is for the immediate and longer future. OUR GM Ted Thompson may be hard to read; but he has certianly gained a ton of respect from his peers and Packer and NFL fans.

I watch him carefully for any sign of some measurable so I can know him better. As a Packer fan and given his reclusive nature that's all I have to try to know Ted Thompson.

Posters here at Packerats want to undermine me with low blow comments like ...'woody HATES Ted Thompson'.

I deny that criticism of me and do so adamently. I'm sort of a Ted Thompson 'watchdog'. If that man was more public I would like all here better understand Ted Thompson. I know this...TT's a solid GM.

Posters here will expound negatively about me 'I'm this and that negative ...I really hate ted thompson. I hate...

That is so silly. That's so wrong and these posters need to take a hard looki at themselves. I'm NOT capable of hatred. I realize what a poison hatred is.i came from a home that certainly was everything against such weakness as hating.

OK I'm a bit off there. Once I doid hate:

Ohh .... I hated squash as a child. I love squash as an adult. Right tere I proved to myself things even negatives can change.

woody and hate are not compatible. I if anything despise or better FEAR haters. I'm aware how hate mongers can rile the crowd and gather upon the weak willed people in any community that is a fact. Haters are a poison in any community and must be contained ...stood up to. Allow them their way and the whole joint will stink.

I cannot hate.

What a crock and IMO it's these posters that are the haters. I cannot hate. I'm a Christian and as a human being, as a decent living person bound by my duty to integrity to understand and love people. To contribute to the greater good NOT bad.

That was Nutz's point for the entire latter portion of the season. He thought bad DE play made the LBs worse than they were.

If Jolly could have beaten the addiction, the story would be different. He couldn't rush for anything but he held ground versus the run well.

Plus he was a one man scheme against the screen.

We don't need a great pass rusher, just someone who can be a threat from time to time. That would help free up both Clay and Raji a little bit. Also It would make the Psycho effective again. Lawson has great rush speed, but seems to have an inability to get the qb which is why i don't think he would help.

M. Bush is only 27, a bruiser than runs hard and can catch the ball too. A goal-line TD machine! Some of you great Packer fans need to watch other NFL players/teams/games; I've got NFL league pass each season and there's not much football that I miss.

Besides, Grant is gone/done, Starks is overrated/injured often & Green had a bad injury last season. We got nothing in the back field. And M. Bush would've been a great feature in the Packers offense. But I guess the former mentioned Packer "greats" are enough? A lot has been said about our D but our inability to convert 3rd and 1 on the ground is a problem.

631 rush att for 2640 yards and 21 rushing TDs. 91 receptions (37 last season) & 1 rec TD. I'd say he's still got some miles in the tank.

Saturday's choice is believed to have come down to Green Bay and Denver and most people are assuming he would join Peyton Manning, the guy for whom he snapped the ball practically his entire career.

The Packers need a center more than the Broncos do and might be willing to pay more, but Saturday might be just using them for leverage to get a better deal from Denver. It's unclear exactly when the 36-year-old Saturday will make a decision, but it's expected soon.

Quarterback Matt Flynn's three-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks was worth $19.5 million and included $10 million in guaranteed money.

I would've certainly taken Bush for that amount of money. He's better than anyone else we have on the roster currently...by a good bit as well.

You can never go wrong with Bush.

Plus, then we'd have 2 Bush's...Bush on Bush...that is awesome :)

Besides, Grant is gone/done, Starks is overrated/injured often & Green had a bad injury last season. We got nothing in the back field.

The 2 injured backs not put on IR averaged 4 ypc. for Green Bay last season. That's not overrated in my book. And even if it was, given the offense we run I'd find it hard to justify paying 3.5 million yearly to a guy who maybe, maybe, would get 15 touches per game. Starks and Green can give us everything we absolutely need out of our run game and they hardly cost us anything.

Comment woodbuck27:

Friday 23 March 2012. A week from this Sunday will be the last day of March, it's blazing by.

Below is a LINK of all the NFL Team Transactions (Most are Unrestricted FA Signings) up until the end of yesterday, 22 March 2012... as compiled by YAHOO Sports.

The period covered is from Sat March 17, 2012 to Thurs. March 22, 2012.

This seasons FA opened Wed. March 14, 2012 at 3 PM EDT? CDT?

I'll try to get the NFL Team Transactions to cover the period Wed. March 14, 2012 to Fri. March 16, 2012 and post that later.

I'll be adding some more material to this thread as well. If it's not satisfactory put it in the COMPLAINT BOX. I don't have the time to deal with such at this time. As that's a 'a fact', I'm concerned for your complaints and / or disappontments. (-:

I'll tell you about disappointment and being a Packer fan. I've had that 'up to the Yip Yoo', for way too many seasons. My loyalty to OUR team goes back over half a century. So please forgive me if I seem a might bit discompasionate over any whining as I'm assured giving my experience and wisdom. You'll get over it. If you don't...God Bless yaa.

I've a powerful memory. Thankfully and recalling it. There hasn't been any condition of dimentia in my Family either side unless it was intentional. (-: We're a tough bunch us Irish Canadians. Toss in that Maritimer Spirit and Joy of Living and well ....some of you know me. I will offer this...I'm pretty easy going.

Being a Green Bay Packer fan. Geeessssshhhh !

Ohh I suffered alot as a Green Bay Packer fan. The total experience has ben just awesome...wonderful. The very best part of that total experience has been my participation and LOVE for PACKERRATS.

Nothing realated to Green bay Packers means more to me than the health and well being of this forum.

I love Packerrats ! Big time !!

I've had my times here that wern't entirely easy but I survived them just as we need to survive life and grow stronger. Packerats is simply a community of posters. You get all sorts here. Every poster is unique...SPECIAL.

Once upon a time as a Packer fan I would get disappointed as I observed my team and Free Agency. Many of my fellow Packerrats are aware of that truth. Now... I really take it more in stride. I enjoy Free Agency as I'm a total NFL fan as well.

I've learned it is what it is; will be what it will be.

Ted Thompson our esteemed GM.

The Captain or Man at the wheel steers the ship. You have to rest peacefully believing your in good hands ..until the ship runs ashore and then you better know how to swim.

It's been said. The person that trys to make everyone happy is not a happy person. I'm positive that OUR teams GM Ted Thompson. is working his tail off do do what will make us proud Packer fans. I live by this creedo. I hope TT does as well.

We are in good hands with Ted Thompson.

My general creedo in life and some inside on me:

I try to make most people happy, most of the time; fully realizing, I cannot make all people happy all of the time.

The secret to living well?

IMO it's 'balance and a positive attitude; avoiding cynics, aggressive non productive people. Avoid troublemakers and anyone that will twist your will.

Back to football:

I noticed that the Packers signing of ** Cornerback Jarrett Bush isn't recorded in this NFL team transaction period.

I'll do my best to keep you up to date on any FA ACTION. The weather has been amazing in Honey Harbour, Ontario (75-77 Degrees F) and SUNNY! I've been working my butt off doing yard work so aplogize for not being totally on the ball as things happen.

It's been a busy week of FAcy so far. Loads of excitement in this NFL off Season.

I'll call your attention to another thread.

Many of you are watching our own MOCK Draft and wondering what our consensus choice will be at #28. I'm in the process of giving that some serious consideration and today I hope to come up with something logical. I hope y'all give this exercise a real whirl. I havn't checked if the poll has been installed. Forn this Packerrat it's pretty much keeping up to date on so much NFL news and trying to keep all Packerrats informed.

Have a nice day Packerrats. woodbuck27 ... My name is Ed.

From Ask Vic and On Scott Wells leaving Green Bay:

Will from Mt. Laurel, NJ

"With Scott Wells signing with the Rams, we find ourselves with a troublesome situation."

" And that’s why we have to assume the Packers have a distinct strategy for replacing Wells.

Allowing Wells to leave in free agency is a bold move.

It’s part of ** that discipline to which I referred. They had a position on Wells and they weren’t going to compromise it, so the Packers challenged themselves to replace him. They know what they’re going to do. We don’t know, but they do.

Sometimes you just have to trust in that." Vic Ketchman

http://nbcprofootballtalk.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/scottwellssuperbowlxlv06vtm_jvyhjl.jpg?w=250 Getty Images

** Michael from Watertown, WI

Is there any particular reason the Packers are not making any big moves in free agency?

"It’s because they have discipline.

They have strong beliefs and they are disciplined in their adherence to those beliefs.

I’m glad they are the way they are because it dovetails with what I believe, and that allows me to answer these questions from my heart.

I believe in the draft. I believe free agency can be used in its more affordable stages to find a gem here and there, but it should always be secondary to the draft in a team’s pursuit of talent.

Football is a game of replacement, not maintenance. It’s a young man’s game.

I believe with all my heart in those two statements.

Good personnel departments challenge themselves to find new talent to develop.

They don’t fill their roster full of players the competition didn’t want.

A patch here and there is necessary, but the less necessary it is the better off you are because that means you’re drafting well, and teams that draft well play well. " Vic Ketchman

Kirk from Jacksonville, NC

"Vic, I know you have been pushing the truth about today’s game being a pass-happy game, but don't you think there were times last season that we could have used a really good running back to either run out the clock or wear out the defense?"

"The Packers used the running game to close out the win in Minnesota. Mike McCarthy has shown us time and again that he will use the running game to do that.

To wear down an opponent? No. That’s not how the Packers play and I can only think of two teams in the league – Baltimore and San Francisco – that truly and successfully played that way last year: Even at that, what are Baltimore and San Francisco focused on improving?

Their passing attacks.

The Ravens want Joe Flacco to go to the next level; it’s the difference between where the Ravens are and the Super Bowl.

The 49ers, obviously, aren’t satisfied with their passing game. They’re going to the extreme of trying to sign Peyton Manning.

Coach McCarthy calls it playing uphill, which is what he refers to as running the ball into a defense stacked against it.

It’s a pound on the door until you break it down style of football and that’s just not McCarthy’s style, nor is it most team’s style." Vic Ketchman

Can The Green Bay Packers Compete With BIG Market NFL Teams?

Raymond from Winter Park, FL

"I'm concerned about what you said about the CBA and the big-market teams pulling away from the small-market teams. I consider Green Bay a small-market team, so should Green Bay fans be worried that in years to come we might not be able to fund high-caliber players?"

"You omitted two words I included in my reference to small-market teams: low revenue. The Packers are not a low-revenue team.

The Packers are a team with a huge regional and national fan base that gives the franchise high visibility and marketability.

As a result, it can compete with the big-market teams.

The only thing small-market about the Packers is where they play.

Prior to Vince Lombardi’s arrival, that wasn’t true. The Lombardi era, however, propelled the Packers into a higher existence.

If there had never been a Lombardi era, I’m not sure the Packers would still be in Green Bay." Vic Ketchman

I wonder if BB thinks it's funny with the New York GIANTS? If he appreciates GIANT football?

How many League Championships have the GIANTS won Vs the Green Bay Packers?

The GIANTS rank as Number three (3) among all NFL franchises with eight NFL titles:

That includes four in the pre–Super Bowl era ... 1927, 1934, 1938, 1956 and four more 'in the Super Bowl era:

Super Bowls XXI (1986), XXV (1990), XLII (2007), and XLVI (2011).

Their championship tally is surpassed only by the Green Bay Packers (13) and Chicago Bears (9).

Quarterback Matt Flynn's three-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks was worth $19.5 million and included $10 million in guaranteed money.

Many reports had the deal worth $26 million over three years. The actual $6.5 million average pretty much assures that Flynn will not warrant a third-round compensatory pick all by himself next year.

No, probably not a 3rd. The inflated number as usual comes from escalators in the second and third years for another $5 - $6 million. But even if he collects, it wouldn't affect the Packers comp pick.

Steelers still want long-term deal with Mike Wallace

Posted by Josh Alper on March 23, 2012, 1:40 PM EDT

Comment woodbuck27:

Is there any team rich enough to pay Mike Wallace close to what, he hopes ...he deserves?

This is also an interesting watch.

Will he have to cow Toe it and remain a Pittsburg Steeler? Will he have to lower his money demands? This late in Free Agency, is it likely for Mike Wallace to break a teams bank?

Other future FA WR's will be taking note as well. How fast to get signed to a new team really wanting to shell $out$ to get the maximum $pay day$ ?

Other's on Defense NOT signed:

21. Falcons linebacker Curtis Lofton (http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/4657/curtis-lofton).
50. Seahawks linebacker David Hawthorne (http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/5029/david-hawthorne).

These dudes really had Lofton ranked higher than Hawthorne? Hawthorne is a considerably better LB than Lofton. Lofton is a 2 down run-stuffer. Hawthorne is a top-10 LB in the right system.

I am wondering if this is due to Pickett's getting old? He reminds me of Pickett in a way. Plus I thin khe would be great in the rotation, not dominant but very helpful at keeping bodies fresh.

In a traditional 30 defense, Pickett is playing out of position at end. But Capers likes to play heavy opposite the right tackle and Pickett's nose tackle body works reasonably well in that situation, although he's not going to generate any rush. Most of these DL types that we're bringing in would play the opposite DE position (opposite the left tackle, the spot from which Capers prefers to rush on the inside.) Pickett is still playing high end ball and he's valuable to the team mostly because he's the best run-stuffing DL and he's the backup NT.

Vikings GM Rick Spielman defends limited spending in free agency

Posted by Mike Florio on March 25, 2012, 1:47 PM EDT

Comment woodbuck27:

Vikings GM Rick Spielman has $20 M$ in CAP space. All the same he's prudent in Free Agency and not spending mony just for effect and publicity.

Like our GM Ted Thompson and hias approach to this part of upgrading our team.

The value has to be in the product and the product willing to agree with the GM's needs on all accounts. It's absolutely the best quality to have a cooperative attitude in terms of any relationship beginning and going forward.

Running backs go relatively cheap in Free Agency in 2012.

The three-year deal recently signed by Bengals running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis has a base value, of $9 million. Making it worth $3 million per year.

Thats surprizingly matching the annual average of the contracts signed last year by Panthers kicker Olindo Mare and Vikings kicker Ryan Longwell.

Yet it doesn’t make it a bad deal for Ben Jarvis Green-Ellis. It may even be the best deal of any of the running back contracts signed thus far in Free Agency.

He’ll get $4 million in the first year and can make another $1.6 million via mostly reasonable triggers.

The nicest thing for this RB is as yet he has no competition. He's the current number one RB in Cincy. That may bode well for a future much better contract... no wait ...he's in Cincinnatti.

How best does an NFL GM use Free Agency? What is the prime use of Free Agency.

Do the Packers need to add a piece in Free Agency to add toughness on the defensive side of the ball?

Last mention is that he visited New England: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/03/19/luis-castillo-visited-new-england-saturday/

But I can't find a mention of his demands. At this point of the FA market, you need to be Woodson caliber to pull down top end money. Not sure if he is still there or not. Has played 7 years, maybe he takes a one year prove it deal?

Green Bay Packers Surprisingly Active in Free Agency (http://www.athline.com/3709/green-bay-packers-surprisingly-active-in-free-agency/)

March 25, 2012 7:43 am

"Yet right now, the “Latest Buzz (http://www.nfl.com/freeagency?module=HP11_headline_stack)” on NFL.com shows the Packers filled the hole left from Scott Wells’ depature with Jeff Saturday and added Daniel Muir. They are pursuing Dave Tollefson, Anthony Hargrove and Manny Lawson.

So why is he breaking the pattern?

Things change, and the Packers lack of pressure was the primary difference between winning the Super Bowl in 2010—when they were second in the league in sacks—and losing in the divisional round in 2011 after finishing in the bottom-five in sack percentage.

His pursuit of these players is a tacit admission that the team could not overcome the loss of relatively low-cost defensive lineman Cullen Jenkins, and shows he understands he cannot rely on his anointed replacement Mike Neal."

Thanks Cheesehead Craig, I appreciate that you might be concerned.

I'm isolating information that should be specifically interesting to Packer fans;

... as opposed to posters here that are interested in the activities/transactions/reactions Etc. that's specific to the Free Agency period. ie That's certainly more NFL as a whole oriented information.

I just read this from a reliable NFL source..TRUST ME !

Joe Philbin and his commentsn as to why Matt Flynn picked the Seahawks over the Dolphins. this quote may be applied to any NFL Player or Teams GM in terms of the option of seeking employment or being placed in a position of need to do so. It pretty much sums up 'the dynamic of Free Agency'.

“Again, you need to ask Matt Flynn why he’s in Seattle,” Philbin said.

“There’s a myriad factors that go into why people make decisions about their own future, which is their prerogative.

And clubs have their own prerogative as to how they are going to decide to move forward.

And so again, it always takes two people to get a marriage and so I wish him well. He’s a great young man.

But he’s better to ask why he’s in Seattle.” Joe Philbin

Comment woodbuck27:

Doing this thread has been a journey into some certain reality. I'm certainly learning that 'only' a few people, are straight up truly honest or outspoken as to why they do anything. When can the line between politeness and public relations ( PR ) be wiped away and the team GM's and NFL players just certainly tell us what is their best feeling about anything? Us fans have to read too much bullshit !

It sure doesn't go down like that at Packerrats.

If any poster here doesn't have thick skin and that same poster calls it as he/she sees it and cannot accept challenge and possible need to swollow their ego. It can turn into some storm of certain proportions and that's the reality of OUR Packer Home or community.

We all need to pull together to not get so damn serious. To try harder to understand one another and never take it to the personal level. To willingly harm one another!? God knows there's enough harm that's innoscent and compassionately felt between members here but certainly NOT meant to be taken as Personal in regards to an attack.

I personally wouldn't purposely and blindly harm a single poster here no matter what I felt about that posters personality or charactwer that disagreedb with me. With what I see as my way and TRUTH. I realize my TRUTH will nor coincide with all members. That some members will even hate me.That reality gives me gief and causes sadness but i swollow it as i must to survive. I request all of you do the same, please.

If you need to get all twisted or bent out of shape because you didn't get your point across. You may simply need to re-evluate being on a Forum. Especially one that features a sport. I can say this...Packerrats values all of it's membership. I'm tough in debate. I'm naturally competitive as well. Much of my past formed woodbuck27.

I grew up debating anything /eveything sports with my Bud's. Down at the corner store many evenings that was the normal thing to do. You played sports. You tossed sports around verbally like salad.

You were never all right. You were seldom all wrong.

I'm very proud to be a contributing member of Packerrats. My Green Bay Packer HOME.

I enter my Packer home with one single endeavour. To make a contribution that's overall pleasing to the membership. To respect every member that enjoys Packerrats as I do.

Sometimes 'my TRUTH ' will collide with 'your TRUTH'. We may contract to debate differences in OUR TRUTH. In the course of such debate it's my personal motive not to hurt any feelings. To debate with manners and to serve this forum with respect and dignity. To be an honourable member of Packerrats. To be open minded and learn and grow as a footbal fan.

please condider this:

As adults we should not arrive at a position of pain in terms of bad feelings and get bent out of shape feeling. Arrive at an overriding emotion of some degree of insult. We are on a Forum where debate is not abnormal. Sometimes 'bad feelings ' may result as two members struggle to make their position superior or better to arrive at a common understanding. My advice is take some time to get over yourself if you ever get 'just' to anger or insult. Be an adult. moreso and as a best policy..... grow as human beings through your experiences at Packerrats.

Try hard to be like me please. LOVE Packerrats.

Think.......... and be grateful that we have so many interesting posters here and never judge anyone easily or harshly. You all have an option in the Ignore Option. I can attest to this as' a fact' that works as a FINAL step to gaining your ultimate PEACE and sense of well being as a Packerrat when the intimidation of some member (s) far exceeds the need. Even with those posters I hold no ill feelings. I treat them 'only' as I see fit for myself...so I can survive here and maintain the respect I must have for this fan forum

I want every member to contribute the very best and totally enjoy this wonderful Packer fan and NFL fan site.

This is 'YOUR' and my Packer HOME. It's all about Packerrats ! LOVE Packerrats and act accordingly.

It's also and certainly about this:

GO PACK GO !

Key additions: Defensive lineman Daniel Muir (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/10827/daniel-muir), center Jeff Saturday (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/2055/jeff-saturday), defensive lineman Anthony Hargrove (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/5616/anthony-hargrove).

Key losses: Quarterback Matt Flynn (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/11443/matt-flynn), center Scott Wells (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/5776/scott-wells).

http://a.espncdn.com/i/teamlogos/nfl/med/trans/gnb.gif"Shocker: The Packers usually do whatever it takes to keep their own players and avoid having to search the free-agent market for other the castoffs of other teams. They started off that way by re-signing tight end Jermichael Finley (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/11325/jermichael-finley) to a two-year contract, but when they were unable to sign center Scott Wells, they quickly targeted veteran Jeff Saturday and made him their first starting-caliber free-agent signee in five years. General manager Ted Thompson also authorized the acquisition of Hargrove and the pursuit of Dave Tollefson (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/9839/dave-tollefson). ....

What's next: It's not out of the question that the Packers will add a veteran pass-rusher, whether at defensive end or linebacker. Then they'll get back into their comfort zone and start preparing for the draft, where it's reasonable to think they'll use at least one of their 12 picks on a center while also continuing to pursue pass-rushers. Oakland Raiders add defensive line depth

Published on April 8, 2012 by Eric Schmidt (http://www.thepigskinreport.com/author/eric-schmidt/)

"The Oakland Raiders have added some defensive line depth. The franchise has reached an agreement with free agent defensive lineman Dave Tollefson. Tollefson played last season for the Super Bowl Champion New York Giants as a reserve recording five sacks.

Tollefson has been in the league for five seasons, recording 81 tackles and 10 sacks while playing a reserve role for the New York Giants. Tollefson, out of Northwest Missouri State, was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the seventh round, 253rd overall. Tollefson was drafted by the Packers while current Oakland Raiders general manager, Reggie McKenzie was the director of scouting for the franchise.Tollefson was also a member of the Raiders practice squad in 2007 before joining the Giants. He also spent his childhood in the Bay area.

His contract is a reported 2-year deal worth $2.5 million dollars. " Article

672 posts in and this....... Good or BAD?

Did 'that post' really give you a BIG LIFT? Did that post give you 'a macho rush'? Did that post add something constructive here? Did that post make you feel like your making a positive difference here at Packerrats?

IMO as a Senior member here it didn't. That post isn't helpful at Packerrats. It's like something that smells. Something that 'only' can attract those that enjoy such.

I'm trying to meet the parameters of posting to meet my obligations of a member here in terms of the Copyright Law.
To try to keep our forums owner from having to deal with the repurcussions of a violation complaint in that regard.

If you can offer to me something constructive to improve on my efforts. I welcome that. Otherwise please get off my back. If you imagine I'm impressed and or intimidated with your CRAP... your sadly mistaken.

On the other hand being a senior member doesn't put you in a position to talk down to other posters as talking about jr vrs sr will limit growth of new posters. I don't blame you for defending yourself, just maybe rephrase it.

I am 'ALL ABOUT' new posters at Packerrats Upnorth. For new blood on our forum and to post here without feeling intimidated and or a need to bee accepted by any sort of posters here. This is a community with many character personalitys. We've seen alot at packerrats and some we want to forgety about and do. I'm not aware of any member here now that I would relish seeing damaged at Packerrats.

Thanks and thanks for the input UpNorth. Your post has all of my respect and I certainly appreciate your fine efforts here on Packerrats.

Us Canadians arn't really the type to 'slap one another on the back' or run all over one another either. (-:

I like to believe we're all about 'Peace and Harmony' and if you don't like that.... screw yaa cause In Canada you have to take 'a joke', moreso smart enough to recognize one when it's waved in your puss like a flag. (-;

There is nothing better than constructive criticism. i believe when it comes out in the wash we'll see Packerrats a better Packer home. It's already pretty good.

We all need to work togethr to make it better. We need to concentrate on focusing our attention on the 'focus of a particular thread'.

We all sometimes get off track but to have to answer to derision on a thread and constant picking isn't acceptable IMO. That has to be addressed for our future.

We need a place called ... ie 'the suggestion box'... to avoid posting the same complaint on threads over and over and over and over (get my point) again.

HOLY Mackeral Andy save us from that...please.

Handful of TEAMS Interested in Trading for WR Mike Wallace

There are reportedly a "handful" of teams interested in trading for restricted free agent Mike Wallace.

Coming a day after a report that Wallace has no intention of signing his one-year tender, this smacks of agent Bus Cook trying to force the Steelers' hand. If Pittsburgh isn't willing to hand over a long-term deal at more than $10 million per season, Cook wants to send Wallace to another team at less than a first-round price. Any team attempting to acquire Wallace would have to satisfy his contract wishes as well as the Steelers' compensation demands. The chances of a trade decrease dramatically after the upcoming draft.

"Steelers agreed to terms with WR Jerricho Cotchery on a two-year contract.

The 29-year-old Cotchery drew interest from the Rams, Chiefs, and Jets in free agency, but he's returning to Pittsburgh to compete for third receiver duties. Cotchery appeared in 13 games with the Steelers last season, working mostly in the slot and hauling in 16 passes for 237 yards and two touchdowns. Giants acquire WLB Rivers for 5th-round pick (http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/4728/keith-rivers)

Giants acquired WLB Keith Rivers from the Bengals in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2012 draft.

It's the last pick in the fifth round, so it's as close as you can possibly get to the sixth. Rivers developed a bit of a "soft" reputation as the former No. 9 overall pick in the draft with Cincinnati, but he was not averse to playing through injuries and is a quality run defender when healthy.

Look for Michael Boley to start at middle linebacker for the Giants. Rivers should handle the weak-side duties, with Mathias Kiwanuka staying on the strong side. " NFL Source

Top 20 remaining unrestricted free agents:

1. RB Cedric Benson: Benson posted his third straight 1,000-yard rushing season last year, proving to be durable after injury problems and rumors about his toughness emerged early in his career. Although all running backs wear out, Benson's late emergence indicates he appears to have time on the clock.

2. DE Andre Carter: He had 10 sacks in 14 games before a quad injury knocked him out for the rest of the season. Carter's career has been up and down, but anybody who's capable of double-digit sacks will be working if he wants to.

10. S Yeremiah Bell: His body can't take being on special teams and starting anymore, but that's what happens to everybody. If he's restricted to one or the other as a primary task, he still has some miles left in the tank.

Lions make an offer to Ryan Grant

Posted by Michael David Smith on May 3, 2012, 3:10 PM EDT

"The agent for free agent running back Ryan Grant (http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/3252/ryan-grant) said before the draft that Grant didn’t have anything going on with his old team, the Packers, but did have some interest from other teams (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/04/17/ryan-grants-agent-says-theres-interest-but-not-in-green-bay/). Now another of those teams has been identified: The Lions, who have offered Grant a contract

Tim Twentyman writes at the Lions’ website that Grant has been offered a deal by the Lions (http://blogs.detroitlions.com/2012/05/03/source-lions-interested-in-rb-ryan-grant/), who are still trying to add depth at running back." Article

"Lost in the mountains in March, running back Tim Hightower has found his way back to the NFL.

Specifically, to the Redskins.

Per multiple reports (including one from Kelli Johnson of CSNWashington.com), Hightower has rejoined the Redskins, two months to the day after free agency opened." Fr. LINK

TAMPA, Fla. --

"The Tampa Bay Buccaneers traded tight end Kellen Winslow to the Seattle Seahawks for a draft pick on Monday night and signed former Colts star Dallas Clark (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/4482/dallas-clark) to replace him.

Earlier in the day, Winslow told SiriusXM radio that first-year coach Greg Schiano was "kind of upset" that Winslow has not been working out with the team during the offseason.

"That's kind of shocking, but that's what it is," Winslow said, adding that Schiano told him the coach "would help me out with a trade."

Winslow has been one of Tampa Bay's best offensive players since being acquired from Cleveland in a trade three years ago. He had 77 receptions for 884 yards and five touchdowns in 2009, 66 catches for 730 yards and five TDs in 2010 and 75 receptions for 763 yards and two TDs in 2011." Fr. LINK

Top 10 remaining NFL free agents

"Despite the rush to scoop up the premier free agents, the market remains stocked with players who could contribute in 2012. Many of those guys are coming off disappointing or injury-hindered seasons, but that doesn’t change the fact that a plethora of valuable veterans are still waiting for jobs.

We start our look at the best of the remaining free agents with a quick rundown of those who fell just outside the top 10." fr. LINK

2012 NFL Free Agents: 15 Biggest Names That Could Go Unsigned.

By Dan Van Wie (Featured Columnist) on May 30, 2012

"For the 15 NFL free agents in this presentation, there is a reasonable chance that none of them will be signed to a contract in 2012. In most cases, that could very well be the end of their NFL careers.

The reasons why these 15 players are not affiliated with any team range all across the board. Injuries, age, compensation, poor performance, weight issues and slowing down are all valid reasons for being passed over." Fr. Link
