HINES WARD has announced his retirement.

In a very emotional address to the media and covered on NFL TOTAL ACCESS. Hines Ward announced officially that he has decided to retire as a Pittsburg Steeler.

Hines Ward thanked all his fans first in this retirement speech. He said that he was grateful to his fans in the cities, for the franchises he played. He even thanked his fan support on 'Dancing With The Stars'. Our own Donald Driver is a contestant on the current edition of that show.

Hines Ward has had an accomplished career. He's a past Super Bowl MVP and winning two Super Bowl rings. He's a past Pro Bowl player (4 times). He said he has had few regrets as a player and on that note. He mentioned the only possible regret 'his hold out'.

Hines Ward said that he hopes he will go down remembered as a tough competitor.

Hines Ward redefined the wide receiver position. He was a unique NFL player at his position. he was a player that played primarily to get to and win a Super Bowl. He loved playing for a great organization. The Pittsburg Steelers. Winning those two Super Bowl rings is what gives him the most pride.

He spoke of what it takes to win a Super Bowl. It takes an entire team effort.

Hines Ward was a fearless receiver that may not become a HOFer; but will always be remembered as an outstanding Steeler player. He thanked his fellow steeler teammates for working so hard to get to and win 'the BIG PRIZE'.

That in the NFL it's all about winning the Lombardi Trophy. That's the job that must be done. Nothing else comes close to doing that. That statistics are not as much as getting that ring and sharing the experience of that accomplishment. That memory will never be taken away. That memory lasts a lifetime.

Today Hines Ward's 14 year NFL career has come to an end. That career was very successful.

Hines Ward was the Steelers All Time Record receiver. Hines Ward was a devastating blocker. He played tough ! He was versatile and grew as a raw NFL receiver to be known as one of the best. It was the way in which he played the WR position that set him apart from all others.
