OhhhI wanted that RB....Lamichael James to Packers would have been wild !!! He hits HOME RUNS.

TT would never have drafted him, he doesn't draft slight RBs.

Trgo on Still/Worthy: Still taller, longer, didn't have "quite the wiggle" of Worthy. Two different players. Was very close between the two.

He goes with a defensive back ..CB Casey Heyward and he's being praised as the corner with the next best skills at cornerback after Maurice Claiborne and the analyst LOVES this pick.

He was slated to go late 3rd Rd but again TT makes a great choice here and goes defense in all three picks that is very solid IMO.

CASEY HAYWARD | Vanderbilt 5-111/4|192 lbs|4SR Perry, GA (Perry HS) 9/9/1989 (age 22) #19

A three-year starter, Casey Hayward was a two-star WR/CB recruit out of HS, choosing Vanderbilt over Troy. He played in every game as a true freshman in 2008 (13 gp/0 st), recording 8 tkls, 3 pbu and 1 FF. Hayward became a starting CB in 2009 as a sophomore (12 gp/12 st), finishing with 58 tkls, 8.5 tfl, 7 pbu and 2 INTs. He again started all 12 games in 2010 as a junior (12 gp/12 st), recording 70 tkls, 2.0 tfl, 11 pbu, 1 FF and 6 INTs, earning Second Team All-SEC honors. Hayward started all 13 games in 2011 as a senior (13 gp/13 st), finishing with 62 tkls, 7.5 tfl, 10 pbu and a career-best 7 INTs (second in the SEC), earning Second Team All-SEC honors.

STRENGTHS: Hayward is a coordinated athlete with good footwork and balance. He is a heady cover player with above average feel and anticipation in space – trusts his eyes with very good awareness. Hayward has very good reaction skills to break quickly on the ball – savvy cover skills to recognize and anticipate routes, understanding what the offense wants to do. He has terrific ballskills with the focus and hands to secure interceptions in traffic – very opportunistic with 15 career picks the last three years. Hayward is tough and aggressive to hold up against the run and work off blocks. He is smart, awar e and confident and has started every game the past three seasons at Vanderbilt (37 consecutive starts).

WEAKNESSES: Hayward has only average height and length (30” arms) with a slender frame and lean muscle definition. He lacks top-shelf speed and doesn’t have great acceleration. Hayward doesn’t have elite fluidity and struggles to recover after false steps. He lacks explosion in his transition with upright technique and has inconsistent backpedal, opening his hips prematurely to guard against vertical routes. Hayward doesn’t look natural in reverse and needs to keep the play in front of him to be effective. Hayward lacks ideal strength and will be out-muscled by receivers. He is inconsistent against the run and needs to improve his tackling fundamentals in order to finish. Hayward is too physical and hands-on in coverage, arriving early and attracting pass interference penalties. He lacks much experience in press coverage and appears scheme specific at the next level.

OVERALL: Hayward was a hidden recruiting gem for Vanderbilt, starting all 37 games the past three years, and was very productive in college, collecting 15 INTs over his career. He is a very average athlete with ordinary speed and looks out of his element when flipping his hips in order to stay with receivers downfield – obviously most comfortable in off-man coverage where he can face the action. Hayward plays more like a free safety, struggling to find the ball and make a play after he’s turned around and is ideally suited for a zone scheme where he can use his eyes and anticipation – will be graded differently by every team depending on the scheme and he has NFL potential in the right defense, but teams know what they’re getting with him.

PROJECTION: 2nd-3rd Round COMPARISON: Brandon Ghee WORKOUT RESULTS: 4.53 40-YD DASH // 19 REPS // 34.0” V // 9’11” BJ // 6.76 3C // 11.10 LS // 3.90 SS

Two of TT's tendencies just went out the window. He drafted a CB shorter than 6', and it's the first time he's drafted defense with first 3 picks.

Hayward's either a safety or a slot corner right away. Our starting DBs are likely Williams, Woodson, Shields, Burnett, Hayward. That's a ballhawking secondary.

Well, TT is sure wheeling and dealing. Stunned that Worthy lasted as long as he did. LB, DL and CB nice to address the trouble spots right away.

On a Badger note, any reason why Konz lasted all the way to #55 to ATL?? Happy that Zeitler got picked in 1st rd, but I thought Konz was a sure thing 1st rounder? Sorry if I'm a little behind. Haven't been keeping a ton of attention on the usual draft hype...started a new job this week.

We still have 2 untradable compensatory picks in rd 4 right??

I would, but right now the Packers have to shore up their secondary, look for some depth on the offensive line, and find a value at running back.

I do think the Packers are pretty excited on the three running backs they have signed, in Green, Starks, and the guy from ohio st(mind fucked)

If I were you, I would go buy a lottery ticket right now.

21(53)BengalsStill, DevonDT6'5"303Penn St.84.2Pick Analysis: Mayock's take: "The Bengals need a big body behind Geno Atkins who can come in and play on run downs. A lot of people thought a year ago that Still would be a top-20 pick, but his tape is indifferent and inconsistent."
22(54)LionsBroyles, RyanWR5'10"192Oklahoma79.0Pick Analysis: Mayock's take: "The bad news for Detroit is that you don't know how quickly he's going to be available. I gave him a solid second-round grade before he tore his ACL late in the season at Oklahoma. He's a quick, fast, tough-as-nails slot receiver who can provide value in the return game. But you don't know when you'll get him. They're going to have to be patient."
23(55)FalconsKonz, PeterC6'5"314Wisconsin86.0Pick Analysis: Mayock's take: "Another one of those plug-and-play offensive lineman who is coached so well. 24(56)SteelersAdams, MikeOT6'7"323Ohio St.86.0Pick Analysis: Mayock's take: "He would've been a first-round pick had he not failed the drug test at the combine. He's got left-tackle feet. There's some off-the-field issues, but he's a gifted left tackle. Now with him and David DeCastro in the first round, this is a completely different offensive line."
25(57)BroncosOsweiler, BrockQB6'7"242Arizona State83.5Pick Analysis: Mayock's take: "He's a little bit of a project, which makes sense to have him training, interning, behind Peyton Manning and John Elway. He's very raw but with significant upside. Despite the fact that he's started just 15 games, you can see the skill set. He's got a big arm, maybe the best in the draft this year. If I'm Osweiler, I've got a big grin on my face being drafted into this situation in Denver."

28(60)RavensOsemele, KelechiT6'5"333Iowa St.83.0Pick Analysis: Mayock's take: "Another guy I really liked in this draft. I'm guessing he's the kind of player John Harbaugh likes. He's a phone-booth offensive guard. I don't think he can live on the outside."
29(61)49ersJames, LaMichaelRB5'8"194Oregon73.5Pick Analysis: Mayock's take: "Keep in mind he's a third-down change-of-pace guy, who can hit you a home run. The 49ers didn't generate a lot of yards on offense, and this guy gives them the ability to hit a home run from anywhere in the park."
30(62)Packers (From Patriots)Hayward, CaseyDB5'11"185Vanderbilt73.7Pick Analysis: Mayock's take: "He's one of the most instinctive corners in this draft. After Morris Claiborne, Hayward has the best ball skills of any of the corners in this draft. I love this pick for the Packers."

HE's a junior, but my memory is highly unreliable.
He had up and down career at MS, I think that is fair to say. He's a physical beast, but he had some quiet games against Badgers, which colors my opinion. Probably he has a great upside and we have to wait and see if he has the drive to reach his potential.

Well, that was a report from Bill Huber, but he's as tied in to the Packers draft room as anybody who is not employed by the Green Bay Packers. It was a "worst case scenario we take this guy" first round grade. So there were no more than 27 players the Packers liked better than Hayward.

Capers talked about Woodson being able to play all over and the writers thought they had their offseason headline if Twitter is an indication. But what he said could also be true for more of the same corner Oakie. Thompson wouldn't even entertain Woodson at safety questions. Sounds doubtful right now.

Thompson also got emotional when asked to say something about Clifton and Collins. Said Collins should have gone to more Pro Bowls.

Ah, but TT could possible trade a 5th and a 6th for a fourth...............just a thought. We can own round four !!

Don't have a 5th. Traded it in the Hayward trade.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I'd LOVE to see TT get another strong DL in round four. We need to get rid of the scrap heap we had playing last year. I'll take an OLB as well

I agree that the DL rotation was pathetic. But three top picks on defense is pretty good, I think we should give TT green light to draft BPA now.

I agree. And who knows, maybe a solid DT or DE falls into our lap.

Yup stick with BPA 'D'. We need new blood on that side of the ball.

If they get Neal healthy I think Raji, Pickett, Worthy, Hargrove, Neal and Guy could be pretty good.

Quite a few Safeties who should fall into that Round 4-5 range.

Now that Russell Wilson is off the board the rest of the QB's suck wind so let's fill some roster spots with bpa.........hopefully on D :)

We're getting heavy at CB. Woodson may be moving to safety.

I like Vinny Curry but he is too small to play defensive end in a 3-4 and the Packers went with Perry to play outside. I am sick of hearing about Thompson not drafting for need, or any team not drafting for need, that is what the draft is about in the first few rounds, solidifying positions with guys you expect to start in a 2 years.

And I'm sick of hearing about TT not trading draft picks!!! :-D

Josh Newman...........Georgio from Boise State would be ok as well

With all the 5 WR sets, can you ever have enough CB's?

Bretsky

Good point SC; you can never have enough good CB's........and you can never have enough DL who can get upfield or LB's who can rush the passer.
The latter seems to be the point many are taking from GM Jerry Genius

I'm looking at the move to improve our fourth round pick #132 or #133 ( Compensatory Pick's ) if that's allowed and giving up our 6th round pick. We move fr. Pick #132 to about pick #122.

You can't move those compensatory picks. Now, if I've got it right, the Pack has the two compensatory fourths, a sixth, and the three (or is it four?) sevenths?

I believe today is the day TT should address the other side of the ball unless a safety or D lineman falls in our lap. We need to find a center to groom behind Saturday and a RB. What about that Mich State QB?

Come on TT. Trade up and get Worthy.

Every once in a while, he listens to me.
