View Full Version : Player Expectations for 2012

Deputy Nutz
05-09-2012, 04:26 PM
I am starting this thread for each and everyone of you to predict the stats and play of individual players.

Clay Mathews OLB
I am predicting a comeback type season from Mathews. He is going to see an improved defense in front of him with added protection and a pass rush on the opposite side of him. The Packers might ask him to do more in coverage, although I believe that is an over blown opinion simply because Mathews is the Packers most proven pass rusher. The Packers front needs to do a better job at holding the point of attack, and cleaning up their blitz packages for Mathews to succeed. The bottom line is that Mathews is a great player, but all outside linebackers' stats are a product of what is happening in front of them.

16 game season
93 tackles, 11 sacks, 21 tackles for a loss, 3 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, and 1 interception.

Total tackles? Solo as well as helpers?

Matthews has been evolving as a pass defender as much as a pass rusher. He will be in coverage more this year.
60 total tackles, 10.5 sacks, 3 INTs, 14 PDs, 2 FF , 1 TD

Jermichael Finley, healthy and de-hypnotized about catching the ball
65 rec, 927 yds, 12 TDs (Driver is gone, Finley will run the Bubba Franks play at goal line to fall down, get up, be open by default, catch TD)

Desmond Bishop 115 tackles, 7.5 sacks, 3 FF and 2 dropped INTs.

With the added pass rushers drafted onto the team and creating more havoc, Bishop comes in on his delayed blitzes and incredible closing speed to vulture in some bone crushing sacks, which he'll be flagged twice for b.s. personal fouls.

Aaron Rodgers

I would enjoy it if he was crippled during the first preseason game, but I am not that kind of person. Unless defense is allowed to play defense again Rodgers is going to have a very similar year compared to last year. The Packers just have too many weapons and athletes on offense, and Rodgers runs the offense like he invented it.

Newhouse rocks
Burnett plays FS and is good at it
Cobb has a big year as at WR, passing Jones (and Driver if he's here) as the #3 WR
Woodson plays SS in our nickle defense
Hayward beats out Peprah as our 5th DB in nickle by seasons end
Perry is a situational pass rusher. Zombo plays quite a few snaps.

So many of you are predicting AJ Hawk's statistics for 2012. If any player is going to see his stats and play dramatically improve this season it should be AJ Hawk. As long as Nick Perry is the real deal, and Worth and Daniels can offer more protection than Wynn and Wilson then Hawk should be able to improve his play from last season. Hawk does need to do a better job of tackling and reacting.

Hawk
105 tackles, 6 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, 1 INT

Count me in on Hawk improving. Really after last year it should be easy. I think TWill and Shields both take a big leap again this year. TWill will be completly healed and Shields will get rid of his sophmore slump. I don't think their ints will improve, but their ypa and pass breakups will improve.

In 2010 the team had 47. This season there is more pass-rushing talent and will be facing many more offenses looking to pass. Major upgrades like Perry and Daniels will have a synergistic effect across the line and could be a real shot in the arm for sacks.

I will agree with this in part: that the sacks will start off slow. I think he'll still be getting his pressures and knockdowns from day 1. He was actually better last year in those combined stats than he was the year before...the sack stats just didn't follow.

I just think that offenses will scheme his way again until anyone else can show that they can preasure the QB. Then CMIII will start getting only double sometimes single blocked and he will then kick up his stats.
