View Full Version : Bears Chargers, interesting game

NFC favorite versus the team the Pack played last week. Should be interesting. Starters may play 2 quarters.

I don't know how much we can read into it. The Bears got beat on both sides of the ball last week - by the Niners, but I wouldn't put too much stock in it.

They look much better than last week though. Great interception by Urlacher, though Rivers telegraphed it - but man, Urlacher can move.

I can only hope that any of linebackers can show that kind of instinct and speed.

Yeah - I think SD exposed the "newness" of the O-line - and threw a lot at them (which I don't think they were prepared for).

However, I don't think the Bears O-line is that good, so I don't know if the comparison is flattering.

Nice run by San Diego - this is the second week where I have seen the Bears trying to hit hard rather than wrapping up.

It is really hard to judge teams in the preseason. The Bears looked like complete crap against the 49ers last week. They look better this week. I wonder if playing at home has anything to do with that. The Bears and the Packers did not look "pumped" up to play their games week 1. I guess we will know more after tomorrow night!

Just did some checking - guess who SD gained more yards against in the first half - the Bears vs. the Packers.

Its the Bears.

Last week - the Chargers gained 174 yards against the Packers in the first half.

This week - the Chargers gained 176 yards against the Bears in the first half.

The Chargers had 98 yards rushing this week against the Bears in the first half - while the Packers kept the Chargers to only 82 yards rushing the entire game.

Just some positives. The Packer had no takeaways - while the Bears had one for a touchdown.

I am tellin' ya guys, the key to beating the Bears is playing extremely conservative on offense and sending the heat right back at them on D. They don't have the cool/calm quarterback to handle the heat, and if you play a field position game with them I think you can beat them.

Rastak,

The Bears had 2 big plays - I wouldn't call that whipping ass. SD gained more yards against the Bears in the first half then against the Packers in the first half.

The Bears offense has been anemic - prior to the bench for SD going in - they only had 44 yards.

SD is also beating them in time of possession.

They are playing better - but whipping ass? Get those Bears glasses off.

Nope, thats why you run 50 times that game if you have to. They need to take favre out of that game and take him out of the situation where he has to think and make a decision between taking a risk or playing it safe.

However, looking at the numbers, I wonder if the Bears will be susceptible to the run? SD had a 5.8 yard rushing average in the first half. Last week against San Fran - SF gained 150 yards on the ground, with a 3.9 yards rushing average.

Is this a kink in the armor?

Well, they've got good penetrating tackles and ends susceptible to the run. Generally, the tackles get enough push that the LBs are free to make up for the DE liability against the run. If you want to beat the bears, you need to go right up the middle. I realize urlacher is a monster, but what can he do if a center is on him? 3 yard gain repeat is the way to beat the bears. By the 4th quarter, you'll break one.

As for stopping their offense, stop thomas jones and you stop their offense. They won't convert many 3rd and longs when a blitz is coming at them.

Your theory works IF you have some kind of running game. You can't just run the ball 3 times and punt. It's not that Favre needs to think less, it's the game plan has to be conservative with shorter routes. You can't throw deep down the middle against cover 2 which is something Shermy never learned.

We'll see just how well MM put's a game plan together. The Bears are aggresive. You have to run screens and I don't mean the typical ones. You have to get a little creative. The Bears D is weak towards the sidelines and those are the routes our guys will need to run.

I am just posting so that "badsmellbears" and his picture of Favre on the ground isn't the last thing on this thread. I don't mind this picture, it just indicates that he realizes the greatness of Brett, and uses this picture to convince himself that Brett is actually human. I understand if a Bears fan has to remind himself of that on a daily basis.

But, since I am here, I noticed that Rastak was trying to constantly spin this game towards the Bears side, and didn't want to admit that, other than the score, (and yes, I know that is what counts in the REAL season), the Bears didn't do anything on offense with Grosswoman out there. I don't begrudge you being a Vikings fan, but what's with the love for the Bears? Do you like them more than the Packers? Well, after nearly a decade and a half of domination from the Packers I guess I would be rooting for the team that has generally stunk in that same stretch. I forgive you.

This is freakin hilarious. After all the times Brett has bitc$ slapped the bears, we now have the 1 picture of Urlacher knowing down Favre. Gee, should we dig up all the photos from the Favre era with him throwing TD after TD against the Bears? May-be I can find a photo of the 5 TD game on a sprained ankle against the bears.

Try as hard as you like my friend, you and all your other Bear brethern can't use 1 year to wipe out the past 14!
Did I ever mention anything about last year?
Go ahead, dig em up. It's still nowhere as sweet as the most recent moments. And the last two years the Bears have played the Packers they are 3-1. So I dont mind you reaching back to find something to make you smile about a Packers vs Bears game. You will eventually fall into the category of the Bear fans that some Pack fans mock that always bring up da 85 Bears.

How can you compare 1 year (1985) to all the years Brett has whupped up on your team? I never was any good at math, but I'm still sure 14 is more than 1. No matter how bad the Pack is this year, you've got a long way to go before you earn your bragging rights. The fact is #4 made YOUR team the laughing stock of the NFL for a good many years. I can understand that you would want to forget that but there are BILLIONS of Packer fans around to remind you!

Hey, I don't love the Bears but I thought they played a pretty good game. It's nothing more than that...not a great game but definate improvement over the week before when they really sucked. I'm tivoing the Lions and Packers games on NFL network this weekend and will watch those games also. Truth be told, I wasn't 100% watching the game (playing civilization 4 at the same time) so I could be off base here. Whenever I looked over they were doing some good things.

Without Jones and MM playing, it is'nt fair to gauge them. The only sure thing coming out of that game is that Griese still look's better than Grossman.

Well, their defense played pretty well, but if it wasn't for Urlachers touchdown, and Davis return, the first half would've looked just as ugly for them as the Packers ... however, those two plays DID happen. So...

After watching the this game. I'm not too down on your OL as I was before. Pack ran better then Chi againt SD D
The Bears only had their 3rd,4th, and 5th string RB's playing for the first two preseasons. With Jones and Benson in there the running game is much different. In comparison the Packers had their possible starters playing in Gado, Davenport.

No, Green is going to be our starter with out a doubt.
Do you think he will be better than Gado?

Ahman Green better than Samkon Gado ?

Ahhhhh let me think. . .

YES.
