I dont understand how the Packers are worth anything unless they go bankrupt because they cannot sell themselves correct?

The Texans, huh? That one is a bit of a surprise to me. After they lost their QB last year, my brother (a Texans fan) thought they were worthless...

The money, if the team was dissolved, used to be sent to a VFA I think. That has changed, but I don't recall the new process.

While we can't legally sell shares of the Packers, Forbes can still calculate value the franchise using the same analysis they use for privately owned franchises.

Shareholders still vote on company rules. If enough shareholders wanted to, they could vote to change the company rules to make selling their shares possible. Then the shares would accumulate and GB would have an owner. Luckily, the team is spread quite thin over millions of owners, so that's incredibly unlikely to ever happen.

Every time the team sells stock, it becomes even more unlikely, too.

So when I inherit a couple of Billion and I buy up all the non-voting stock in the team I can change the bylaws and own the Packers?!? SWEET!!! Samkon Gado is going into the Packer Hall of Fame!

Unfortunately, I think they limit the number of shares one person can buy to some small number (~200?), plus you cannot buy any of the already-issued shares.

The Articles of Incorporation for the Packers limits any one entity from holding more than 200,000 shares.
An Amendment to the Articles of Incorporation generally requires that it be proposed by the Board of Directors and voted on by shareholders.

I think this is also true of the restriction on selling shares, that it is part of the Articles. (I'm not positive that it is.) As such, the shareholders alone can not change it. It would have to originate with the Board of Directors, and be voted on by the shareholders.

Those sneaky bastards!!!! I want to own this team...can I just give them a Billion and be the figurehead owner? Never get a dime from the team and cant sell it but can pass it down to my male heir? I could be labled King!

If you donated a billion dollars to the Packers, I bet most fans would be willing to acknowledge you as a figurehead king/owner.

Shareholders vote on board members.

...but they are nominated by the Board, and only a very few at any one time.

Yes, it's academic, but it is possible.
