Things I'll be looking for:

Who the hell will be playing Left Tackle?

The running backs. Saine has been having a good camp.

Jennings being out should give Cobb some time with the starters.

Anxious to see what Worthy can do, he's been coming on lately.

Will be interested to see who is backing up Hawk.

The cornerback battle could be good.

You probably aren't going to get many answers tonight on LT. Newhouse and Sherrod are out. Wells isn't ready. We likely won't get our answer at third string LT tonight. I'm assuming they'll let guys like Taylor play, but in the regular season you are likely to see some shifting (Lang or Bulaga moved to LT--depending on where Wells fits best).

I'm not too worried about the RBs. They are what they are. Which is just good enough. I've liked Saine going back to last preseason though. Tonight's game is all about the defense for me. Worthy, Perry, House, Shields, Hayward, Jennings, and McMillian are who I'll be watching the most.

Is there an injury report? What's wrong with Saine? Finley and Jennings are concussions, right?

Saine - Hamstring

Finley - Quad

Jennings - Concussion

RB and OL depth are in bad shape.

RBs - Bennett is out with a knee issue, Green probably won't play much and Tyler has been having shoulder issues (I THink he's playing, but will be wearing a brace or something) - So I don't see much coming from him. Starks seems to be the only RB that's good to go. Maybe Kuhn will get a couple reps at RB.

I'm all about the defense tonight. There's battles at every level. CB is getting the most publicity. I'm more interested in our ILBs for some reason. I guess I see alot of Athleticism and I don't know much about them. Also, improving our pass rush is probably our biggest chance to make the defense better. And we need to find a safety and get a look at this dime package that Dom is threatening to use more of. Honestly, I don't care if they punt on 1st down a few series.

House made a huge case to start.

I'm not going to get into how much I hate these announcers, but when Gruden said the long completion was Hayward's fault, he was wrong. The holding penalty had nothing to do with the play, and then Casey stepped up on two plays in a row. The kid's going to play a fair amount this year.

Going back to the 1st quarter, who got beat on Gates' TD?

Safety got turned around or rather turned the other way. I think it was MD Jennings. DJ SMith was also covering, but from what I saw, it was the safety's fault that he got open.

pittstang5
08-09-2012, 10:18 PM
Well that was painful, even for a preseason game.

Bishop hurt, House had a good game then gets hurt on Special Teams in 3rd quarter. Running backs don't know how to hold onto the ball. 2nd String O-line, specifically Taylor and Datko are not good at all.

Perry looked really, really good. On the sack, he put a powerful bullrush on the RT, got him off balance, stuck him again, disengaged inside relatively easily and closed hard and fast to get the sack.

The 2nd one, would have been a sack. I want to say he beat his guy on the corner, then got held badly.

Bishops injury looked bad. House definitely has a shoulder problem. His arm was hanging. I feel worse about the Bishop injury. Just a guess, best case it looks like 6 weeks, worst case he's gone for the year. House, unless it's some crazy shoulder tear, he's young. . . . I would think he could make it back some time in the beginning of the season. He was playing really well too. Very good coverage, a nice tackle behind the line. . . .

All in all, I thought the Packers looked a little wimpy out there. It's like they weren't ready to play a physical game.

RashanGary
08-09-2012, 10:32 PM
Harrell really off in the beginning. He was throwing everything high. After he calmed down, it got a little better. I know it's only preseason, but this is his chance to make it in the NFL. I hope he just had some extra jitters and calms it down going forward. He's no Matt Flynn.

House was a monster out there tonight. I was really impressed. It is too bad he got hurt. He was smiling after he came off the field. But, he told reporters that he is hurting and hopes to be back soon. He will have x-rays. Yikes. I am smelling a 3-4 week sit for House. Which means we get to see more J. Bush!

What do the Packers see in Bush? I mean, he is not a defender. PERIOD. He is a special teams player. Stop trying to turn him into a CB! Good Lord he sucks!

Good: Perry, House, Smith, Masthay, Cobb (although I think he had a drop that Gruden said was Borel; maybe not a drop, but he definitely called the wrong number)
Bad: RBs, Backup OL, M.D. Jennings, Bush, Hayward, Dezman Moses was lost in space on one of the TDs
Need to see more: Harrell, Borel (athletically, I didn't see the guy people have been raving about)

pittstang needs to relax a bit. It's preseason. Vanilla schemes and most of the starters are gone early. We lost to Cleveland in each of the last two preseason openers.

Taylor gave-up a couple hurries early on. But overall I thought he did pretty well. The commentators, I think it was Gruden, see one bad play, and they know the guy is a backup, so they create a drama, "The floodgates have opened at LT!" etc.

He played horribly, HH. He's not an NFL tackle. He knows how to get in the way, but that's about the extent of his skills. We gotta come up with something at LT before the bell rings.

Please tell me Dennis Krause has some redeeming quality other than a gift for doing the Packer pregame. Because he has spent the last 12 hours being passive aggressive in his bitchiness over the Lakers getting Dwight Howard.
