Saw only the first half but:

Please, please, please let Sherrod get healthy
Welcome to the team Nick Perry (would love for KYPack to tell me that Right Tackle was good because Perry abused him several times)
I think I will like the CedBen era, all apologies to Bretsky for doubting
-even when he ran the zone from single back and picked or pressed the wrong hole, he was very close to breaking it
-if he can pick that up in a week, he will be very good in Week 8
-he did cut back one very well for big yardage, so he can do it
TWill looked healthy
Saturday has to pass block longer
Defense looked vastly more aggressive
-loved the pass rush
-loved the goal line stand
-loved seeing a 3 man rush and deep zone forcing a short throw and then something happen that I think is called a tackle short of the first down marker
-at times looked like a Steelers defense from 5 years ago
Worthy, even when blocked at goal line, still fought and stayed square, not losing his feet or angle, he might make it
Hope Crabtree is healthy, I don't think that was a penalty though (the penalty on the deep throw to Nelson was missed entirely)
Hope Pickett calf injury is minor
Saw Ryan Taylor get open a few times, good news

I was happy with all of these things too. AR and GJ have a little chemistry to work in, but other than that, I think the offense is going to be a beast again.

Loved Benson. LOVED him. Just going off one half of football, he's the best running back we've had since A Green. He's the first RB we've had who knows when to set up a block and when to go forward. Just an all around natural runner.

I don't know if he's a game breaker, but he's that type of back who's going to get you the quick yards every time and that extra 4 or 5 when it's there.

Looks like the perfect back for our offense. I'd rather have Benson of 4 years ago, but if you're not goign to invest big bucks in a RB, I think we have the best we could get.

The thing that stood out the most about Benson was the play actions to me. The Bengals respected his ability and got sucked in time after time on the play action.

Benson was very decisive when running. He made his cut and hit the hole.

McMillian could be the next Nick Collins, small school guy who makes an impact in the NFL.

I'm a big Collins fan. I think he's the best tackler I've seen in the last 10 years (I really only follow the Packers close enough to know anyone else)

But yeah, McMillan looked good. I'm still in wait and see mode, but I liked what I saw too. Looks tough, fast and the shocking thing, he was sticky in coverage. That's the part I did not expect, not at all.

Oh, and with Collins gone, Bush looks like the best tackler on our team :) :)

He's 205 with speed and agility, but he plays like 225. Tough guy! Hell, if Capers wants to go small and fast, throw Bush in there as an ILB type guy. He can sift through traffic, bend under blocks and tackle with the best of them. I can't imagine his coverage is any worse than the ILB's. Collins had that way about him, sifting through traffic and bending/beating blocks. It doesn't seem like anyone can really get their hands on him. Damn it, I never thought I'd say this, but I'm a big fan of Bush. More as a LB/DB hybrid than a pure DB. I just think he's tough enough, where if you have him on the field in place of a guy like Hawk, you're not giving up much toughness and you're gaining a guy who can beat blocks and make big tackles.

Feet down and turned have nothing to do with it. For the purposes of the rule, he was defenseless. But he was hit with the shoulder and I thought, standard definition only, he was hit in the arm below the shoulder. I don't think that hit in that location should be flagged.

Packers win. Harrell still unproven. BJ Coleman is like a 7 year old with a bazooka.

So I don't like how ARod had to scramble to score in the preseason. I realize it is a major weapon for him, but it scares the crap outta me everytime he takes off.
Also I have official jumped on the Benson bandwagon.
Liked how our d actuallprevented the bengals from moving the ball, now let's see them do that against a real nfl offense.

Join me in praying for Derek Sherrod's recovery.

Okay. For some reason I have faith in Wells and Datko but not #72.

This, I absolutely agree with. In fact, after watching the game yesterday, I was wondering for a while why there's been such a big gap of RB talent between AG and Benson. I mean, Green was so good that he relegated an all time talent like Favre into a game manager and would have carried the team to the Super Bowl if Sherman had gone for it on fourth and one. And now there's Benson, who knows how to run. Apparently, I'm learning that knowing how to run is a much more difficult skill than I previously gave credit.

Other thoughts:

Bullish
McMillian. Again.
Benson. Impressive.

Bearish
The second half. Fell asleep right out of the gate. Literally. Didn't wake up until 2 minutes left in the game.

Let the kool-aid flow my Packer brethren! God I hate watching football on a shitty feed from a fucking Euro website.

First of all; there's no god! And second of all; you're [probably] a son of the Euro trash that crossed the grand herring pond.

Feet down and turned have nothing to do with it. For the purposes of the rule, he was defenseless.

“It is a foul if a player initiates unnecessary contact against a player who is in a defenseless posture.
(a) Players in a defenseless posture are: [. . .]
(2) A receiver attempting to catch a pass; or who has completed a catch and has not had time to protect himself or has not clearly become a runner. If the receiver/runner is capable of avoiding or warding off the impending contact of an opponent, he is no longer a defenseless player;
[. . .]
(b) Prohibited contact against a player who is in a defenseless posture is:
(1) Forcibly hitting the defenseless player’s head or neck area with the helmet, facemask, forearm, or shoulder, regardless of whether the defensive player also uses his arms to tackle the defenseless player by encircling or grasping him; and
(2) Lowering the head and making forcible contact with the top/crown or forehead/”hairline” parts of the helmet against any part of the defenseless player’s body.”

The rule allows refs a little wiggle room, but since he got his feet down and had turned upfield, he wasn't defenseless IMO.

Thanks for posting the rule. I would really have to see it again. I thought he wasn't down yet, but even if he were, he wasn't hit in the head or neck area. I don't think a more experienced crew would have made that call...

Was he capable of warding off the hit, or avoiding it? I don't think so. I don't think there is anyway Crabtree could have avoided that hit and he was not clearly a runner. I think by that definition, and by how they have called it in the past, he was defenseless.

But the reason it wasn't a flag is that the DB KNEW it was going to be close and hit him with his shoulder on his shoulder. That is permissible; the defender needs to avoid the head and neck. At least Crabtree, Marvin Lewis and I agree on that.

It's not the head or neck. It's head or neck area. Shoulder, sternum, upper back. . . . . All of those could be considered in the neck area, depending on who's throwing the flag and what angle they had.

There is some grey area on that rule. In this case, I'll be a hypocrite. I didn't like seeing it done to our guy, but I would have cheered if we would have lit up Calvin Johnson on the same hit.

We are going to need an anatomy dummy to decide this, because the DB didn't hit Crabtree on the top or even edge of the shoulder but the outside closest to his arm. If that qualifies as "neck area" then the NFL deserves what it gets from its officiating.

The RT that Perry whupped was Andre Smith from Alabama. He's a lazy bastard, but strong as a bull with great feet for a huge guy. Perry bulled him and whipped him in test of strength type deal. Perry is the real thing when it comes to a bull rush. Now we need Clay (& maybe Clay's daddy) to add some clubs to the kid's bag. Perry is still lost in cover, but he's hustling and trying.

That's more than many rooks do.

I've seen him running shirtless, "lazy" and "huge" might be putting it kindly.

N.B. Don't google that shit, you don't want to see it.

I hope Moses gets playing time this season, dude just makes plays when hes on the field. Adding him, Perry, and Worthy should really improve the pass rush and I'm starting to believe we can be a top10 defense again this season.

After the flag, I wondered what the DB could have done to avoid a penalty. About the only thing I could think of was allowing Crabtree to pick up another 2-3 yards before tackling him. It was a hard hit, but not a vicious hit. You have a DB trying to tackle a TE, grabbing him would likely result in a broken tackle. Tackling a players legs is a lost art, but maybe DBs have to relearn it.

He's developed into a top hand at RT. He gets a lot of bad press, mainly based on his fuck-ups from his rookie draft. he had a rookie agent and between the two of 'em, Smith looked like a fool in that draft. The media and a lot of Bengal fans think he's a bad dude because of it, but he's actually a solid RT.

And Perry blew his ass up. That's something experienced pro 5 techs and LOLB's haven't been able to do. I know Perry will have many rough spots in his first season, but there is strength and skill in that kid.

I don't share your confidence. Unless Francois in coverage can give us more than:

I think pass coverage is a strength of Francois. Not sure about his run-stopping ability.
