Schefter with the scoop:

Teams now will be allowed to re-activate one player from Reserve/Injured during the 2012 season, subject to certain restrictions.

Too late for Bish, though...

Only players with a "major injury" who are placed on Reserve/Injured after 4:00 p.m., New York time, on Tuesday, September 4, or thereafter during the season, will be eligible to be reactivated at a later time.

Major Injury? What does that mean? Most players with a "major injury" won't be coming back during the season anyway.

That's a little ridiculous. Fine for next year and going forward, but teams made the IR decisions this year under the impression that the IR was permanent. I think this year there should be an exception/allowance. Who knows? Maybe the Pack would have waited to put Bishop on the IR until after September 4 if there was a chance he could come back later in the year... :\

Would have to guess Sherrod? Or... he makes the 53 and we wait and see.

My guess is that with the new IR rules, Sherrod would still come back more quickly being put on the PUP. I didn't see a date for the IR exception, but I'm going to guess it will be a set time--like 8 weeks or something.

It gets better. According to Andrew Brandt, the Packers could take Bishop off of IR before tomorrow and then Re-IR him after the Sept 4 deadline.

Is Bishop that key for a playoff push/etc? I don't know... I may keep that in my back pocket for a game changer with moderate injury.

Solved. Sweet.

I never liked the idea that a guy gets hurt and can't play the rest of the yr because of IR.

there should just be a rule that if you bring someone back from the IR, then if you release someone to make that move, then that released player's salary is guaranteed for the remainder of the season. each team should have 3 IR exemptions.

Update:

The player has to be on IR and not practice for 6 weeks, but can't be activated to play until 8 weeks.

Apparently the window to bring them back doesn't close. I'm assuming this means they can be on IR for 8 weeks then be activated at 10 (or maybe 8, who knows), and not that it means they can be un-IRed at 6 and not be activated until 10...

My best guess is they bring Bishop off IR and then put him on it. Unless they're sure he needs the full season to heal. And since the temp IR person has to be put on IR after final cutdowns, they'd basically be cutting someone they intend to keep on the team just to put him on that IR. Don't know, I guess.

As for House, nowhere have I read that he's at least 6 weeks from being ready to practice. If anything, it sounds like he'd play week 2 at the latest.

can you move a player from IR-season and IR-8weeks? could the pack start by putting Bishop on there and if Rodgers gets hurt in week 2 can they remove the tag from Bishop and assign it to rodgers?

According to Wilde you have to designate the player when you put them on. I think if Bishop can be healthy by Week 12 I'd use it on him.

House?

I don't think so. Either he is going to be able to play with the harness or not. And if he gets hurt, he will need sugary after that. I don't think the injury healing for another 8 weeks would prevent that scenario. But that's just a guess.
