best story so far this morning:

Official in Saints-Panthers game pulled by NFL because he's a fan of the Saints.

Chris Mortenson on his Twitter feed:
September 16, 2012, The official Brian Stropolo was replaced because his active facebook page unabashedly displays fan passion for the Saints. He was assigned to the Saints-Panthers game as the side judge. Full story coming up online.

Seems they did, Pug, they just need to be a little more before in their beforehand...(like maybe before(hand) making the assignments...)

Its a bit funny and mostly about embarrassment. The League can't afford the public confirmation that refs are fans of teams.

But you know that refs had favorite teams growing up. They simply learned to bury it for professional purposes. It would give fodder for years to columnists to write about, but I doubt it affects the game much. Certainly less that the bets some of the refs have probably made.

Unfortunately for this guy, now that his name is public, he won't ever be able to work a Saints game.

Eagles game here. McCOy gains 10 on a play with two holds. Ref calls the less obvious of two but I think that's progress.

Ravens defense? You can move it on them. Doesn't help the offense for either side there has been 1 turnover a piece less than 10 minutes in.

Vick with a pick. I do really enjoy seeing him struggle.

Then Cullen Jenkins recovers a fumble caused by Trent Cole.

I've been thinking that the GB staff was thinking Cullen with the Worthy pick. Similar bodies, but Cullen has a lot more NFL strength right now. Both are very fast.

I can't imagine Vick will be able to move very well by the time he retires. Blasting him on every play no matter what seems to be part of the game plan every week.

Yes, because Cullen Jenkins was driven back 8 yards into the endzone by Marshall Yanda on Leach's TD run!

BTW, if Pollard isn't fined by the NFL for his hit on Celek, then I will simply refuse to take their efforts on concussive hits seriously anymore. He tattooed defenseless receiver in the shoulder, causing a whiplash effect that sent Celek to the ground groggy. It was a formless kill shot aimed at a shoulder instead of a head.

Also yes because Jenkins was still on the LOS from his non pass rush when he recovered the fumble. And no, I am not defensive at all :)

In a lot of ways Vick game looks improved. I think once he's on the move, he should be looking to run more than pass. When he throws in rhythm, he's good. On the move, freelancing. . . . He needs to run.

Then he was given an in person demonstration. Ryan Clark called for pass interference on a Jets receiver for a hit while he was bobbling the ball. It could have been mistaken for defenseless receiver, but even that would have been wrong as Clark hit with the shoulder into the shoulder chest area.

Seattle was quietly improving their D all last season. They gave the 49ers a pretty good game late in the year.

I also have decoded the replacement refs. They have been told not to blow the whistle and call the play dead until the players body language tells them the play is over by walking back to the huddle. So I would tell all players to keep getting up and running until someone actually in charge tells you to stop.

One thing every team who plays SF from here on out has to make sure their WRs are past the 1st down marker before they pass. The Niners are very sure tacklers so you don't get a lot of YAC. The loins only have one go-to guy in Megatron. Shut him down and you can shut down their offense.

I am so sick of Collingsworth. He used to be my favorite announcer because he knew the game and talked about it. Last two years however, he's spent a lot of time talking about how bad this player or that player is, or how bad a team is. He in particular seems to like running down the Pack. During the Lions/49ers game last night he said something about how the Lions were playing the same (ineffective) D against the 49ers as the Pack did.

Most of Manning's passes I've seen this summer and last night didn't have much zip, especially the longer passes. I remember thinking when Denver signed him and all the talking heads declaring Denver is now a SB contender that it was completely possible that a 36 year old QB with 4 neck surgeries who didn't play in 2011 might not be the same Manning who won all those MVPS and a SB ring.
