What happened to this site earlier today? :cnf:

Thanks for starting this thread Pug.

Had some hosting changes that took place yesterday and it turns out PackerRats web hosting service has assigned new name servers to the site. They have been updated now but will take a bit to kick in.

In other words the servers the site was pointed to changed. They have been updated but will take a little bit to kick in.

Apologies for the downtime, it was not expected so I didnt make a warning thread before it all went down.

Yea sure Patler. I'll bet anything you were all over the net looking for an alternate site to express your views on. Nothing.... could keep you down.

Of course........ I'm just handing you your ass. :whist:

Sometimes over the years I've taken an opportunity to go to other NFL fan sites to seek some information. IMO there is no site even nearly as good as Packerrats. I love Packerrats. This place about covers it all for the die hard Green Bay Packer and NFL fan. Granted a person has to have a certain grit to understand and survive here. At the same time it's not anal, with all the emphasis on reported post monitoring with the burden of no background check consideration. This forum is scary as hell and at the same time fair. To truly appreciate Packerrats;you must be..... a Packerrat.

I never get enough opportunities to say this and do so without kissing the man's ass. THANK YOU Madtownpacker ' El Jardinero Rat'.

THANK YOU ALL for Packerrats.

Down again from last night to this morning. Those DNS servers are updating slow. I thought it might just be Charter's normal complacency, but the lack of posts would seem to indicate I wasn't the only one with trouble.

Feel free to complain on Twitter anytime. Just send along your Rat name with the Twitter handle so I know how to respond. I was talking to ATX something today and had no idea who it was.

As a conservative i think it is wrong for people to complain about not getting free stuff purchased with the money and efforts of others, but for Packerrats i will make an exception.

I'm not ready to have conversations with real people. Too risky. And my goldfish is a Denver fan.

Downtime only served to point out my addiction too keenly.

First I was thinking "Maybe Mad is sick of our whiny complaining and isn't going to keep shelling out 50 bucks a year just so we can make his life miserable."

Then I was thinking "Maybe Mad lost us in the vast spaces of the Interweb, like in the movie Tron, and he is searching for us but wicked adbots are chasing him and he needs our help."

Then I was thinking "The site will probably be down for a few days due to some technical glitch and it will come back and everybody will be like 'where did you go, man?'

Just to be safe I should update my e-mail for you, Mad, and we should have some kind of secret code for you to write on our monitors from within the grid before the wicked adbots can erase your code. Maybe something like "Get the F^*% off of Maxim and download "MadTown" before I kick your ass!" would be a good secret phrase.

Because I don't throw anything out--I finally decided to clean out the email inbox that I was using when I was doing the webpage and found all of the old emails about articles and such. I couldn't delete them even though I don't always remember who all of them are.

And now I've been sitting here for however long trying to remember what my twitter password is...

Holy smokes Swede that's an awesome post. You have no pride man but compensate that with loads of imagination.

I was distraught; 'near panicked', dizzy with grief and imagining various scenarios of Packerrats disasters over the near two days that it was down. The cost of that downtime will be high.

Mae and I have to replace the carpet. Having worn down a path from the HD TV to the puter over the many times I tried to LINK Packerrats with frustration and howls of pain as success eluded me. My hair is thinner scrathin' my head, wondering how to make some contact to determine where Packerrats had gone. My face is all scratched and my teeth worn down.

On a brighter note. I didn't eat during that downtime so I feel slimmer.

Not sure I still have exchange filed anywhere.

I guess it is not so much that the site is down as it is that our browsers get pointed to servers that are not carrying the site.

Is that about it?

Exactly.

PB if your on windows OS go to Start then Run and type COMMAND then hit enter. On the black DOS window type IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS

Close and reopen your browser and you should be good.

Dude. Trust him. If you lose the site every night your browser keeps walking into the wrong building and then tells you there is no such place as Packerrats. The directions Mad gave are straightforward. By doing exactly what he says you will tell your browser to stop going into the wrong building.

Except the browser is really looking for a server and not a building.

Thanks for the tip Mad but I got there myself out of frustration; lost it again right after posting and reached same conclusion you did. It's a Mac but there is a way to flush the DNS there as well.

Worked like a charm since then. I suspect its uses the local cache if it does not get an immediate response from something more authoritative on the Net.

Its pretty easy once you get there, Snoop. Worth it if its still giving you headaches. Like swede said, your little black phone book with all the scribbled out addresses and phone numbers has a bad number in it. You can erase it all in one command and it will get rebuilt as you browse the web.
