Found this on youtube - fun to watch, some good stuff. Brent Musburger, Phyllis George, Irv Cross. There's an interview with Gil Brant.

Love the opening highlights...count the penalties! Love that bodyslam.

shit, and people were disgusted with me when I cheered on Harris's hit on Peterson's knee :) :)

Anyone see that opener. It looked like a highlight of plays you should feel ashamed of liking.

I'd fuck the shit out of Phyllis George.
Isiah Robertson looked really friggin fast. Wow, what an athlete.
Chuck Knox was scratching his balls on camera, love how they put that in there.

Wait, wait, I should be more politically correct.

The violence back then was disgusting
I would fuck the shit out of Brent Musberger

This makes me realize, we need to be able to express our anger, violence and penises more today. I mean, really, no wonder people are killing each other. We're not even allowed to cheer at a big hit in football without people trying to shame the humanity out of us. Eventually men are going to explode if we're forced to live in this femmy world.

Ozzie Newsome (Ravens GM) was coming out in the draft. Billy Kilmer looks like the dad on "the incredibles." Jimmy the Greek looks like a big, dumb greek. Man, what a clip. Gil Brandt was a head executive of the Cowboys. They were one of the elite teams in the NFL at that time. Their roster had one player who wasn't drafted or signed as a street free agent. Those bastards were even more stubborn than Ted.

Wes Chandler - Florida
Ken MacCafee - Notre Dame
Ozzie Newsome - Alabama

and they either cut Gil off or he forgot #24 from Stanford, by the look of the helmet in the clip.

Who are the receivers #24 and #23? Or are they defensive backs? I thought it was James Lofton out of Stanford, but he wore #30 and that S is not the logo on his helmet from his Stanford days.

Its the 1978 draft class headed by Earl Campbell. Browns got both Clay Matthews Jr/II and Ozzie Newsome.

Irv Cross looks like a Borg with that thing in his ear. Jimmy the Greek was correct 50.023% of the time.

I am about 10 minutes away from calling Gil Brandt and asking him who that player is. If he can't remember, the draft was only 12 rounds with 28 teams (the correct number, BTW, in case you were wondering).

Also, the body slam of Cat Bradshaw was from Joe "Turkey" Jones and he was a backup of the backup if I recall correctly.

Who was drafting for the Packers in 1978? They had a good year.

John Anderson, Lofton, Mike Douglas; that's 3 players in the top 21 from the draft when compared by their Career Average numbers at Pro Football Reference for their draft class.

It had to have been Bart's regime, right?

Oh, and Phyllis George was a nice old lady in 1977.

Now she's so damn cute in that turtleneck sweater I can't stand it.

What the hell happened?

Lofton was #25 and #30 at Stanford. I think those are Ron Smith (24) and Dennis Pearson (25) from San Diego State. They had a great senior class in 1977. In addition to Smith and Pearson they had Mike Douglass (remember him?), Terry Jackson and Deacon Turner.

Makes sense as Smith went with the 53rd pick and Pearson went 125th.

Gil made it sound like a crap shoot between the two RBs at the top of the draft, the second being Terry Miller. I wonder if he was taking the opportunity to spread some disinformation? Don't think so though, not much chance of Dallas picking up Cambell where they were drafting (last).

Green Bay's 2nd round choice that year is the source of so much juvenile snickering:-)

Good article on Brandt here http://sports.outsidethebeltway.com/2006/04/gil-brandts-amazing-memory/

Brandt worked for the Cowboys from their birth in 1960 until Jerry Jones bought the team in 1989

1978 round 1 is interesting, it has Pro Bowl to HOF quality players (Campbell, Wes Chandler, Lofton, Art Still, Jefferson, Ozzie Newsome, CMII) interspersed with no names, and then there is St Louis drafting a punter at D1-15 when Newsome is still available! Maybe punters were a more valuable commodity in the days before the NFL liberalized the passing rules.

And the Browns picked one up in round 2! Explains a lot about those franchises, doesn't it?

"The rumor is Dallas 'might' be willing to trade backup QB and Punter Danny White in exchange for the number 1 pick in the draft."

Yeah, the Brownies hit two home runs (CMII and Newsome) followed by a towering pop up (punter in round 2). They could have had Al Baker instead, who was taken one pick after their punter.

I was most surprised by the face masks. I checked the rules, and it's been a penalty on any player since '62! The other hits they showcased legal at the time (I think).
