What the heck.

Let the TE battle begin! Looking at Q vs DJ Williams for all-around.

Franklin v. Starks v. Green should be good too. Although with Harris out they might not cut anyone.

And the DL might be a lively group tonight.

OK, that last run Packers D 51 and 57 failed to read the back AND the pulling guard on the counter/trap. Both jumped into an unoccupied hole and had NO chance to catch the RB.

Pulling guard had the easiest block of his life pinning BOTH inside and back went for 10.

I don't care about size or size. Two players in one gap is terrible discipline.

Hyde has been the most impressive rookie on the team this year.

I figured out why he is good. He is cat-like, just like Clay Matthews or Leroy Butler or (a blast from the past) Mad Dog Douglass. "Cat like" means great body control and reflexes. Having that athleticism allows the defender to be decisive and attack, they can make subtle adjustments while moving fast. Less gifted athletes get juked more easily, they are forced to be hesitant. It's more than just being quick, although I suppose that helps.

I suppose the Packers figure they have a grand total of 6 playable offensive lineman going into the season. So that sixth man is as valuable as a starter, and they wanted to protect him.

I know trades are rare, but I see the need for another offensive lineman so intense that we will see a move.

M3 on LT David Bakhtiari playing only one snap: "He temporarily hurt something that he overcame. He was schedule to play in the first series."

So, 2-3 weeks then? I hope he can make the first game.

So what the hell does that mean? I take it that he's ok.

Then Bak will be lost for the season and we are royally screwed.

Maybe my perception is wrong, but it seemed like in several of the Holmgren years our teams were much deeper......much deeper. It seemed like we tended to do very well in the second half.

Our backups are getting torn a new asshole each and every week and I wonder why that is ?

I don't know about that, outside of OL and maybe LB. I mean, the guy mostly responsible for 21 points was a project CB they kept running out there and I think their CB group is probably as deep as it gets in this league. They cut a (declining) all-pro in Woodson and they have 2 guys already looking pretty good in his stead (Hayward, Hyde).

Hyde looked sure-handed on punt returns. Not flashy, but I never felt like it was an adventure for him to secure the ball.

A good backup QB can cover up a lot of problems. Also, probably a lot of it is extreme youth. and that they don't tackle, are soft, small, and poorly aligned.

Yes, I am not worried about defensive depth, certainly not if Jones and Hayward can play.

Offense though, still looking for a QB. Some of the throws were terrible and then protection got shaky in the second half.

I agree. I find myself not all that concerned about depth on the defense, probably because the OL and backup QB situation is overshadowing any concerns. Starting to think TT might look outside his own group for OLinemen who can block. Vince Young is better than Graham Harrell, but I will reach for an airsick bag if he has to take a meaningful snap this year. I'm far from convinced B.J. Coleman will pan out as a backup QB.

Maybe I've had too much coffee this morning, but I'm pretty frustrated and past the point of patience with Campen and the OL -- you'd think by now they'd have the ability to field a line capable of pass protection and helping the RB's gain more than 2.5 ypc. Maybe Bulaga and Sherrod were supposed to be the answers, but I'm still annoyed and uneasy heading into Week 1.

Some of those backup LB's weren't playing the run very soundly. (Cyrus Gray!?!?) Stay healthy, Matthews and Perry.

Right on. I don't expect the backups to hold up against other team's starters, but when 2nd and 3rd stringers are playing other backups I expect it to not look like a complete clusterfuck.

Then I find myself asking this question though. Do we have any OL who have gone on to do bigger and better things elsewhere? Meredith bounced around and started 12 games for TB last year but I don't know whether he is actually good. Giacomini starts at RT for Seattle but he seems to be one of those guys fans like for being a mauler, but struggles in pass protection.

Between two injuries to tackles and one draft devoted nearly to all defense, suddenly there are offensive depth problems.

This is how bad teams operate*. And further proof that if I like your draft, it was a terrible one.

*If they start to sign FAs, then its time to put Ted out to pasture.

I'm not as worried about the backup QB as I am the O line. If the line was better Rodgers won't get killed and we might even be able to run the damn ball.

The one time we've gotten a look at Rodgers + Lacy + 1st OL was against the Rams. And they did well against a DL that will be up there among the best in the league.

That is one thing Young might pick up. Neither he nor Harrell seemed comfortable changing the play when faced with single safety, man coverage and eight in the box.

Young once went up top on 2nd and short but underthrew Walker I think.
