Hell, drastic times call for drastic measures. I don't think I have ever started a gameday thread so here goes.

Wist is going to be shocked by spraypaint marching out 3 man fronts consistently today. The 2-4 will involve Neal and Perry setting the edges with Clay roaming like the headless horseman.

MM will run 3 times on the first 2 drives but get a total of 2 yards and promptly abandon ship. Rodgers will get hit early and often, but being the best in the biz he will still muster enough offense to win given our surprising defensive performance....after all, its about scoring points right pb?

Packers win 20-14.

PS...in good news, most of the wiseguy money is going with the Pack in the vegas sportsbook. They love +4.5, so the guys who do it for a living think the Pack will be in this til the end.

Packers 24, Niners 20.

Defensive struggle more or less.

Packers roll to a 35-10 route. Klusterfuck throws two pics and is ineffective passing and the running just isn't enough.

#Packers S Morgan Burnett (hamstring) is expected to play today, though he'll work out pre-game to be sure. He'll help defend Kap & co

Last night I hear my wife on the phone talking to her sister, "No we have no plans for tomorrow we would love to come."
To which I responded, "It's the Packer game. I will be in front of the TV downstairs at 3:15. I don't care where you are."

Needless to say, now most of our in-laws are coming to our house for lunch today. They better be gone by 3pm or I am walking downstairs turning on the TV and I am not saying a word to them until halftime.

ThunderDan

OK, my in-laws are all Packer fans and very nice people so we probably will be watching the game together but man..... on opening Sunday of the NFL season we have to get together. Let's get together next Saturday all day long.

It always feels good to see the Cap'n's obligatory post.

And Thunder, I feel your pain, dude. Even if relatives are Packer fans, when I am watching the Pack I just am not sociable. I cannot make small talk, or get more spinach dip, or pretend I care about your daughter's new tooth, or even make polite commentary on a play. I yell at the TV. I swear like a sailor. It's an intense experience. It's not even safe for me to be out in a public place to watch.

Good luck today.

What else do we need here to start the season off right?

1. Madtown coming on to insult and salute someone, could be same person.

2. 007 must chime in with update on son.

3. red must report on quantity and quality of beer being drunk.

4. Patler must remind us he will not watch the game live but DVR it to watch in an efficient 1.5 hours without commercials and the chucklefest halftime show. He probably should have brunch somewhere nice and work in the garden.

5. Bretsky with a post referencing both church AND another lovely lady joining him for leisure.

6. Harv telling everyone not to panic and keep a towel on hand.

Then we'll be good to go.

P.S. We obviously have the obligatory post well in hand.

I will not watch the game, but will listen on the radio as I do other things today, probably clean the garage. I will, however, record the game and watch it after my wife goes to bed. Just can't spend 3-4 hours parked in front of a TV to watch it live! (Love that FF button on the DVR!)

3-0 packers.

Mason Crosby hits a 71 yard attempt as time expires. However, his earlier misses wide right from 37 and 44, and his doink of the upright from 23 are too much for TT to handle. Crosby is released on Monday after being the hero on Sunday.

If the Packers win, I'll quit drinking. With that said, I'll be having a drink tomorrow night if I so please.

Packers will be down early and never be in this game. Players will look sloppy and unprepared compared to the well oiled machine of the 49ers. The Pack never looks good to start the season, why does everyone think they will this year?

Packers 17, 49ers 34.

Here’s the Packers’ full inactive list:

CB Casey Hayward (hamstring)
S Morgan Burnett (hamstring)
LB Nate Palmer (coach’s decision)
LB Sam Barrington (coach’s decision)
G Lane Taylor (coach’s decision)
TE Brandon Bostick (coach’s decision)
DE Josh Boyd (coach’s decision)

As much as I don't care for Burnett - this is going to hurt not having him.

CBS Sports scoreboard, if you are looking at the Game Center for a specific game, has a voice indicator that tells you when something happens. They currently have a young women's voice indicating things like "First Down!"

If only CBS could afford Red Cashion to make that call.

The way the D is playing we are trying to force them to go on long drives, not over commit on pass rush, and be sound in gaps. Problem is they can pull off 13 play drives since their power running game is money.

We have to dink and dunk our way for long drives. Problem is someone will drop it, there will be a sack, and we will not be able to consistently go the distance

Could it be that McCarthy learned something from last year?? lol...

Nice screen pass - that is what he needs to do more of.

Bad news?? Here comes Mr. Spraypaintedhair again :(

Did these idiots really just say that we gave up on the run on that drive? Maybe I misunderstood...

Guiness
09-08-2013, 04:00 PM
Great thing about that drive was keeping the Packer D off the field for a bit, let them regroup and hopefully do a little better on the next drive. The 49ers went through them too easily the last drive.

In the long run, that's not good.

They can use short passes to essentially be a run game.

Maybe, but screens will help that situation, something MM didn't run last year against the 49ers (first game).

Now McCarthy will totally forget the run game.

In the long run, that's not good.

But today it might be the way to go. Rushing on 1st and second down against their base is a waste of time. Screens, draws and some runs from pass formation when they are in nickel is what they need.

Was that before or after they repeated, for the third time by my count, that the Packers were the 49ers big defense with the run?

Ok, third down coming up here - let's see a stop!

Fritz

Well put this down as non-buyers remorse. EDS is TERRIBLE at reach blocks of any sort. I have now seen him miss completely at least four times including preseason this year. Asked to get a DT even playside he never gets there.

On the one in this game, Lang did not help much. Barely grazed the guy as he went to the LB.

Short passes and screens. Same as old WCO.

wist43
09-08-2013, 04:07 PM
We need to substitute short passing game for the run game - we will not be able to run the ball at all against this defense, so we need to dink and dunk - then we can misdirect off of that.

It's the only way we can sustain drives.

If Mr. Spraypaintedhair can resist the temptation to jump into the 2-4 at the drop of a hat, maybe we can slow them enough on defense to give ourselves a chance.
