Dodging several flying chairs, Texas manager Billy Martin grabbed a bat and led his team on a rescue mission to rightfield. “The bat showed up later and it was broken,” recalled Rangers player Mike Hargrove. Umpire Nestor Chylak, hit by both a chair and a rock, ruled that the game should be forfeited in favor of the Rangers. “They were just uncontrollable beasts,” said Chylak later of the crowd. “I’ve never seen anything like it except in a zoo.”

Hargrove reappeared as Cleveland Manager from 91 to 99....I think he still has that bat...

How many tickets could the Packers sell if they offered free beer to anyone who bought a ticket?

The Brewers had the first Dime Beer night three years earlier at County Stadium. I was there with my dad and it was a disaster. Remarkably, it was a smallish crowd, but not violent. I never felt unsafe. On the other hand, I never drank my first beer. Had plenty spilled on me though. The beer lines were 2 or 3 innings long.

Fights broke out almost every inning, sights that had the teams on the top step of their dugouts, but facing away from the action on the field. “I’ve never seen anything like it,” said one Brewer who sat in the bullpen. “It was the wildest crowd I’ve ever seen. They were throwing beer and beer cups all over the place. Everybody seemed to be having a gay old time.”

About as many as if they increased the price 10 bucks with out free beer. A sell out is a sell out.
