Cassel to start with Ponder mystery injury.

Ponder has a fractured rib, and the break is close to his heart. I would not call that a mystery injury.

Good. Cassel isn't a world beater, but he should be good enough to push the Vikings out of top-5 draft position.

I'm glad the "Time of Ponder" is over. But, when did it start?

LOL. Ayn, can you photoshop it so that Ponder has a bag on his head. This is closest I can come...

Boy, drafting him where they did was a reach and a waste, as many predicted.

Hind sight is an awesome thing.

????

20/20 foresight I would say. When Minnesota drafted him, the first thought that came to my mind was "Hey, how did Chicago's college QB evaluators hack into Minnesota's scouting department?" Then I LOLed. Ponder = McNown

An injury that wasn't even mentioned until Wednesday. Everyone here in the TC knows that this is an injury of convenience. If Ponder was playing well, he'd be playing on Sun with pads around his ribs.

The heart is overrated as an important organ. Just ask Clefty. I can vouch for it too. :eyes:

As much as wilf might like to see it I don't think he could scam a rocket to get ponder to the sun ever, let alone by Sunday.

Sure, about 0.045 - with runners in scoring position.

Ah, Minnesota.

The Pack has a losing record, but I think they have the talent and ability to turn it around. Minny, not so much.

What a shitty pick Ponder was! Did they trade up to get him, or just reach?

I just remember it as being a major reach. Scout.com had him projected as a 4th round pick, although that probably wasn't right either. http://cfn.scout.com/2/1062494.html I don't think anyone had him going in the 1st round though.

It was a big reach. Not quite Tavaris Jackson reach, but still a pretty hefty one.

He was touted by the Vikes as the smartest QB in the draft and was going to be able to pick up the offense right away. They were even saying that he was the best in the class that year. I laughed out loud with that pick knowing they just pissed away their draft.

He'll be back. I honestly expect the Cassell era in MN to last 3 games tops. I also expect the Vikings to be in the market for a new QB this off-season. There are rumblings they have interest in Josh Freeman.

To me they are a classic case of a lot of things going right for them last year (Peterson's season, great OL play, good health, soft schedule, a streak of ok outings by Ponder) and a regression to the mean this year.

It will be interesting to see if the gambles they made this year with Patterson (for a R2, R3, R4, R7) and Rhodes (plus a R7 and R3 for Percy Harvin) pay off. They wheeled-and-dealed like they thought they were closer to a SB than they really are. You look at QBs like Manning, Brady, Rodgers, Brees, and it's not hard to tell that Ponder is not going to lead Minny to a SB. Might make for a pretty solid backup.

I remember hearing that Ponder was the "NFL Ready" QB in the draft. Not the best....but the best to bring in and start right away.

And if that was the case, it's a stupid move. You don't draft a player, especially a 1st round pick, based on what he can give you as a rookie. The key to drafting well is finding guys with upside.

Christian Ponder....what a loser!

25 years old........just makes $1.3 million a year........and all he has to look forward to is going home to his skag wife......What a pathetic existence!

That label was also what distinguished AJ Hawk from a bunch of other guys in 2005 draft.

That may make sense. The Freeman era is over in Tampa, Ponder's is done in Minny. They can just swap era's and save on draft picks.

I will be switching between the MN game in London and the Tampa game today. We get all of the Buc games down here and they benched Freeman for a guy named Mike Glennon. I wonder how ugly this one will be?

Freeman ditched the meeting for the Team photo.

Shades of a young BLF, eh?
