Punter Jon Ryan probably shouldn’t get too comfortable. The Packers were working out a left-footed punter on the Ray Nitschke practice field early Friday afternoon with Ted Thompson observing the workout.

The punter’s name has not yet been released, but his kicks ranged from 33 to 56 yards. He also was seen practicing holding the place kicks.

I'm glad TT is looking, Ryan hasn't really earned the job yet. Some of his punts are sweet though, he needs to be more consistant. Dropping the snap didn't help him at all but at least he kept his cool & picked it up & got the punt off.

I have yet to see one of the big kicks everyone talks about at practice in a game situation. I want to see that returner back pedal. He did do a nice job recovering after that drop in the end zone though.

Packers try out punter; several players stick around after practice

Friday’s practice lasted 2 hours and 10 minutes. Following practice, fullback Vonta Leach stuck around to work on his pass-catching ability. He’s had trouble hanging onto passes during training camp.

Also, staying after practice was linebacker Brady Poppinga, who was working with linebackers’ coach Winston Moss and defensive coordinator Bob Sanders.

Punter Jon Ryan probably shouldn’t get too comfortable. The Packers were working out John Torp, a left-footed punter, on the Ray Nitschke practice field early Friday afternoon with Ted Thompson observing the workout.

Torp's kicks ranged from 33 to 56 yards. He also was seen practicing holding the place kicks. He was waived by the Vikings about a week ago.

We should bring in the punting/kicking specialist that worked with Sander last year to work with Ryan, there's a hell of a lot more to work with there compared to Sander. Coach Stock must be having a hell of a training camp between sorting out the place kicking, punting, coverage units and getting C. Rodgers to catch a punt. The old dude's gotta be a wreck.

well at least we're not going to just settle on something, it looks like TT is still taking a look at other options just in case

Punter Jon Ryan kicked 21 times during a special teams period at the beginning of Thursday’s practice and averaged an impressive 48.1 yards per kick. He was kicking into a slight wind.

That's encouraging, but it didn't address his real area of concern - hang time.

The old dude's gotta be a wreck.

On a personal level, I've have nothing but compassion for him if that's the case.

However, as a sportsfan of the Packers, I'm more concerned about the possibility of the special teams being a wreck than I am about the old dude.
