Spoon is still pushing the Capers might be in trouble angle, but with Wilde's M3 quote (you get what you tolerate) I don't think McCarthy is going to be lopping off a coach's head.

I think its defense-> secondary specifically. Not buying Newhouse, he's an injury sub with two guys playing out of position. Though that one whiff will end up on a lot of O line teaching film about what giving up looks like.

EDIT: OK: That was just the headline writer. Bob calls it the death of the will to resist.

I wouldn't think Newhouse is in trouble of getting cut, though he may get benched for Sherrod soon.

I agree that the issues he's upset about are on the defense. But it just be someone getting moved down the depth chart. Didn't they bench Jennings yesterday?

Question for the thread: Did Capers blitz too little?

One of Spoon's arguments is that Caper's should have pressured more given that Foles is not fleet afoot and had too much time. But Capers was blitzing.

Was it enough, did it leave the secondary vulnerable (two of those long completions came against single-high safety [Burnett])? Did you want to see a Gritz Blitz (send 8 or 9 play man to man with no safety)?

2011 all over again?

This came after the Packers had missed 59 tackles in the first eight games, an increase of 24 from the first half of last season.

That shows how little sports commentators really know, when they declare team characteristics one week, and then change them a week or two later. Talent for coaches and commentators alike is knowing when a team of certain characteristics was simply playing above their heads or had bad games. Determining their baseline is key. Packer writers don't do that, they simply go the direction the wind blows at the time. Probably most commentators do the same. Fan the flames so to speak.

i wonder if anyone at 1265 is regretting the release of woodson right about now

we still have the cap room to have kept him (i believe its at least 8 million in cap space)
we could use a second safety
we definitely need his leadership
i never saw c-wood quit during a game

Datone Jones had 2 sacks.

If you would have told me that Daniels and Jones would be getting pressure from the DL, I'd have thought the D would be much better.

It was REALLY hit or miss. Took too long overall. And his runs out of pocket were ridiculous.

I would almost guarantee that Newhouse isn't a packer next year. Guys who give up on the OL are failures...period. The number one trait in OL success is the will to win every single battle and fight to the whistle. Newhouse doesn't do this, thus he is worthless.

C-Wood doesn't quit but his coverage could be shaky and as safety his range/speed was suspect.

I think people over-estimate the transition from CB to safety, but Hyde would be the person to move back there if they shuffle the deck.

However, after reading the articles of McCarthy's comments, I think tackling might have been the subject he was referring to. And that problem was team-wide.

I do think the struggles are scheme/coach oriented. Individually you see the talent flash in our players, yet we see big breakdowns consistently. I see other teams play better with bigger holes (although our rash of injuries year after year does make Capers job difficult.)

His contract is up, I believe. I don't see the Packers making an offer to keep him, especially if Sherrod really is on the way back.

Its really weird because normally, a guy is is not physically overwhelming must make up for it in some way.

Perhaps its college related? Was his athleticism enough in a lower division to make it unnecessary for him to recover and play on through the whistle?

do you move hyde, or do you just let banjo play the spot

Definitely. For having relatively high sack numbers, I have to think their overall pressures (sacks + hits + hurries) are on the bottom end of the pile.

They need two bodies back there. Burnett has been terrible deep and in coverage. Jennings main problem is tackling. Banjo could be Jennings but there has to be a reason he has not been starting after a couple of nice games.

Foles first 2 TDs were so badly underthrown..HOWEVER-both were single high & safety did not get enough depth on each (Burnett then Jennings)

No, its always been there. From his predraft evaluation on NFL.com:

... Lacks the lateral agility to make blocks in space and struggles to get into position after counter moves. Does not consistently recognize stunts and blitzes and misses his blocking assignments too often. Lacks a mean streak and does not always finish blocks.

So horribly true. On the first touchdown it happened right in front of us. The WR was 5 yards behind the S and CB. I was thinking well there is a TD. Then Foles throws the wounded duck and both Tramon and Burnett are able to catch up and make a play on the ball.

Just because you bump into each other and knock each other out of the play and the ball bounces off one your shoulder pads right to the WR doesn't mean you didn't make a play on the ball.

It was Keystone Kops but not because both didn't try.

Also, I blame the guy sitting behind me in the stands for EDS's injury. Literally 3 snaps before EDS goes down he says, "We know what the Pack does to shuffle the line when Lang goes out who would be our backup center if EDS goes down?"
I answered, "I think its Lang."

We found out three plays later.

I am so deeply disappointed in this defense. They had guys back - well, for a while - and the offense, while not scoring much, did have a great time-of-possession advantage.

Yet the defense sucked. Ass. Wind. Penis. There was little pressure on Foles, and the secondary really did look like the keystone kops. There were huge holes to run through.

I had hoped that after the first keystone kops TD and the offense having lots of TOP, the defense might settle down. Hell, had they lost 13-10 (That is, had they not given up the two stoopid long touchdowns), I'd have been more or less okay with the game, given that Tolzien played pretty well given his inexperience.

But now...they sound in the press as confused and lost as they did after 2011. If I were MM, I wouldn't know what the fuck to do with them.

Tackling drills? Do-your-fuckin'-job drills?

I could've stomached a close loss with the offense not scoring enough. But to let the Eagles walk all over you - Christ, that was ugly.

It reminded me of what it felt like to be a Packer fan in the 70's.

I am so, so disappointed in this defense.

On Twitter, WesHod said the Packers hand out team gear for the workouts. That is how Vince Young got spotted in Packer gear before any announcement or signing was made.

He has a smart agent.

Incidently in his Monday press Conference MM said that Matt Flynn's workout went well and that he looked fine.

So what else besides a positive comment on Matt Flynn did MM say in his Press Conference today in the aftermath of the loss to the Eagles?

a) He mentioned first that again he was disappointed in the teams fourth quarter performance.

b) He had a big issue again after that game with team tackling.

c) He felt considering the inexperience of Scott Tolzien that the teams offense was good but in no game should you hope to survive giving up 3 TD's over the top.

d) He said that Scott Tolzien had an outstanding performance that he was impressive given all conditions. He expects that with a weeks practice that Scott Tolzien will get better for the New York GIANTS game.
