Ohh Boy these fellas might be pissed/rolling over in their graves ** if they all get there, if that was the case.
They all wore the number 9.
MLB:
Enos Slaughter; ** Ted Williams ** ; Roger Maris; Reggie Jackson; Bill Mazeroski and Minnie MiƱoso
NHL:
Some Canadian trivia and numbers worn by our sports hero's:
In the NHL The Number 9 is a famous number. I grew up as a kid and teen in sports knowing that 'only' the best player on the team can covet that number. I never wore number 9. :grin: It's got sort of a cultural identity ...well...in Eastern Canada or 'the Maritimes'.
Another famous number is the Number 4. The number that the great Jean Beliveau wore as a Montreal Canadian HOFer; As in 'Number 4 Bobby Orr'.
Maurice ' The ROCKET ' Richard; Gordie ' Mr. Hockey ' Howe; Bobby ' the Golden Jet ' Hull;
Andy ' Small Tough Guy' Bathgate; Johnny 'Chief' Bucyk; Charlie 'The Big Bomber' Conacher;
Ted ' Teeder ' Kennedy; Glen 'the Oiler' Anderson; Lanny 'King' McDonald and Clark ' Jethro ' Gillies
Those nick names ... I kid you not are real / appropriate. These fellas all Canadian sports hero's.
NBA:
*** Robert Lee 'Bob' Pettit ***; Dan Majerle; and Larry Miller...that's all she wrote in the NBA by my findings. Number 9 wasn't so big in NBA history.
*** I liked Bob Pettit as he was a solid player of the Milwaukee/St. Louis Hawks. He was the first recipient of the NBA's MVP Award.
My early childhood/teen hero's were playing with Wisconsin based teams. The Braves, Packers and Hawks.
In the NBA I also liked the Celtics.
My golf hero ... Sammy... Samuel Jackson ' Slammin Sammy ' Sneed. I loved Slammin' Sam.
Did anyone ever swing a golf club as smoothly as Sam Snead?:

Are any of you smoking? :whaa: That took George too young.
Is there anyone here that recalls this TV program that was on TV on Sunday afternoons?
Shell's Wonderful World of Golf: I used to dig this program and almost salivate when Sam Snead was featured.
