As much as I'm a fan of Lacy, and I really am, Starks has kind of had a dream scenario heading into this week and into the playoffs. He should be strong, fresh and fully ready to function in the game plan. Sometimes fresh legs go a long way, especially when everyone elses are warn down.

It's the backup to Starks that worries me, since it is inevitable that Starks will get hurt probably by halftime if not sooner.

This is why I hoped Lacy would be ready. Both Lacy and Starks should do well against the current Bears D, but each might have 1/2 a game in them.

Huh?

We barely beat the Megatonless Lions at home and got killed by them on Turkey Day. We tied the Vikings at home for fuck's sake.

The only coach the Packers are getting fired is Dom Capers. And when that day comes, the Packer brass will call the firing a "retirement."

Writers at PackerNews mixing their metaphors, here's what they had to say about Lacy

Lacy wasn’t able to walk near the end of Sunday’s game against Pittsburgh, but said he feels well enough to be the bell cow if called upon against the NFL’s worst rushing defense in Chicago.

Or maybe that was Lacy himself saying that. Either way, I think I know what he means

By JASON WILDE ... jwilde@espnwisconsin.com

"...while getting their franchise quarterback was exciting enough, the idea of him working in tandem with running back Eddie Lacy – now that Lacy has emerged as one of the league’s top backs and the frontrunner for the NFL offensive rookie of the year award – left offensive coordinator Tom Clements, quarterbacks coach Ben McAdoo, running backs coach Alex Van Pelt and head coach Mike McCarthy almost giddy at the possibility. I don't have much faith in the defense either. However, if Rodgers can shake off the rust, he gives the Packers an advantage at the most important position. The Bears defense has been truly awful.

Jumal Rolle... A great name for a shushi chef's inspired creation.

This guy looks like he could use a lot eggs, pancakes, home fries, bacon and sausage and/or ham breckfast's with fruitcake as a desert to start his day.

Maybe they see something impressive in him and want to try that out in a real game day situation ie ST's.

With Davon House in 'the Doghouse'. It's an easy lets roll with Rolle. Use up 'one of two' remaining roster spots that opened up when TE Brandon Bostic and DT Johnny Jolly went on the season ending IR..

I'm waiting to hear this news:

Randall Cobb gets the last remaining roster spot. What's holding them back and not bringing R. Cobb back to the active roster?!

Some more of those 'MEN's secrecy games'? As if the Bears would be terribly stunned to suddenly learn that Randall 'Rocky' Cobb is totally back with Aaron 'Rusty' Rodgers and Eddie 'Limpin' Lacy.

Do we really know how Jermichael 'Jammin' Finley is doing? Why doesn't MM assign someone else to the IR and dress Jammin? At least he might offer some comedic relief.

Wouldn't such moves with all the holiday eats and drinks give the Bears at least a bad case of the trots...or maybe in the extreme, hemorrhoids.

That MM is such a tricky guy.

Back to Randall Cobb again:

Maybe it's something really simple if he's paid on a day to day service basis? I don't know. Some $bean counting$ to the 'T' tightass, that feels he's doing, just what's the very best for the shareholders.

GO PACKERS !

Yes the Bears if they get it clicking on offense demands a shootout response from MM and Aaron Rodgers.

They have a formidable stable of WR's and Matt Forte on offense and Bears HC Marc Trestman is scary good generally in that arena... or the BIG GAME.

MM !? ... not so much and BIG GAMES !

We stood little chance with Matt Flynn Vs that Bears offense and now we do have that ... a 'real' chance.

I'll analyze that game right now. It's going to come down to how well AR can bounce back and the health of Eddie Lacy and will Randall Cobb be back and making some impact. We need our WR's to run good routes and catch the ball. No standing around...get open. Get back to the ball.

Will Aaron Rodgers have time to develop much with TE Andrew Quarless? Will the OL remain standing and plug the holes in the passing game and open them for Lacy and Starks?

How well will our underperforming secondary do against such big and really seriously talented receivers?

Who do we have to pressure Cutler but ? Uhh? Ohh OK...no one ! How does Dom Capers solve that issue? That'll be an interesting watch.

So what does some detailed analysis tell me and checking the MATH or measurable and some thought or an intangible (s):

A) The Bears are 5-2 @ Home and Packers @ 3-4 on the road. BEARS.

B) Offense: Bears are ranked #3 with 27.8 P/G and the Packers are ranked 9th with 25.6 P/G.

Points against ... Bears 445 or 29.7 P/G Ranked 30th on 'D' to Packers 400 or 26.7 P/G and 24th ranked on 'D'.

Looking at an intangible.

Which teams poor 'D' steps up? That's just a guess. Won't this game be won much on heart if it's the Packers as Victors !?

On team heart and will and Rodgers Vs Cutler. I give the news that AR is back strong support for the Packers edge. That Green Bay locker room has to be psyched.

I don't believe that Marc Trestman is necessarily wrong going all in again with Jay Cutler but maybe this is something else? Marc Trestman is a smart man. The Bears and now with Marc Trestman and GM Phil Emery as the Men. Had/have to know that that team and it's weak defence isn't going far in the playoffs if they survive the Packers @ Chicago.

Like the Packers the Bears defense is bad ! The Packers 'D' simply not as...BAD!

The Experts lean towards the Packers and Vegas and Sports betting computers do as well.

Back to measurable:

C) Points Packers @ -16 and Bears @ - 28. OK ... That's a point to the Packers.

D) TDs ... Bears 48 and Packers 42.

E) TOXIC DIFFERENTIAL: BEARS @ - 20 and Packers @ -6.

Really who wins this game? On paper it's close.

I have no real gut instinct either that the Packers can pull this one out of the fire. Except for this:

The Green Bay Packers shouldn't after all we've witnessed be in any discussion and playoffs. Aaron Rodgers was out for half a season. The accumulation of injuries and player games lost to that adversity is the worst in the NFL.

Yet ... here we are Packerrats. Still breathing playoff bound air.

I believe our destiny is to get there. Such a tiny gut feeling I'm trying hard to make bigger before tomorrow or Game Day. I hope I do get right there.

I so much believe in karma and the need for every Packer fan to truly :

BELIEVE !!

There's the real Green Light Packerrats.

*** Shout out !!!! Somewhere ... sometime... GO PACK GO !

** Do that at the mall or the tavern or the pool hall or the drug store or grocery store. Shout that out at all of those spots. ** Be a solid Green Bay Packer fan !

Have zero doubts. KEEP IT POSITIVE.

Nothing has really changed about this defense. They cannot play pass D in base and have trouble versus the run in nickel or dime. In a close game, that can be a problem. If Rodgers gets them a lead, it will work to their benefit.

I think the pass coverage at corner has improved with Shields return and Williams at least putting up a fight. House failing to materialize has hurt. Which would not have mattered as much if Hayward were available.

Pass rush is a concern because its either a sack or no pressure. I hope Matthews being out puts Perry on the right and forces Capers to send more exotic combos if Neal and Perry can't get home. Would be a good game to put Raji in nickel.

I watched enough of the Pittsburgh game to say it was more of what I was seeing before starting taking naps every day :)

2nd and 6 is NOT an automatic passing down, yet Capers acts as if it is... hate the 2-4 as a base, Dom loves it - we'll never see eye to eye on that. Watching Jones try to run around blocks with no chance of disengaging, while the RB plows thru arm tackles and DB's are bouncing off is no way to play run defense.

But that is the essence of the conundrum. If he plays Oakie in 3-4 personnel on 2nd and 6 the other team is going deep and with the way the safeties are playing, its going to succeed.

But that is the essence of the conundrum. If he plays Oakie in 3-4 personnel on 2nd and 6 the other team is going deep and with the way the safeties are playing, its going to succeed.

It seems like with Don it’s stop the run with 3 big bodies or rush the passer with 2 better pass rushers. Why not just try a happy medium, go with one big body and the 2 pass rushers? Has he done that and I just haven’t seen it?

Nothing has really changed about this defense. They cannot play pass D in base and have trouble versus the run in nickel or dime. In a close game, that can be a problem. If Rodgers gets them a lead, it will work to their benefit.

I think the pass coverage at corner has improved with Shields return and Williams at least putting up a fight. House failing to materialize has hurt. Which would not have mattered as much if Hayward were available.

Funny everyone here seems down on Williams...but the opinion I'm seem most other places is that he's been an effective scrapper.

I think that is the idea with Jones and might have been with Wilson and to a lesser degree Worthy. On paper it works, but neither is ready for that role yet. So he goes beefy on run downs and has to hope Raji can provide a rush if they choose to pass.

One problem is that Raji has been asked to stay at home and occupy his blocker. He has down so but that eliminates his best trait which is his quickness. He is not getting off blocks and perhaps is not skilled at that without his speed. He is miscast in this D right now.

Want a scenario where Dom is not retained? Its where Ted or Mike decide Raji, Matthews and perhaps Jones must be in a different D scheme. Its not Ted's style, but that is the only way I see Dom leaving.

He has recovered from his injury about as well as can be expected. He has battled back from some awful outings to play better and he often seems to be the only one back there putting yup a fight besides Shields.

But that is a far cry from his 2009-2010 campaigns.

See wist, woody agrees with you...time to reconsider.

On another note, good to see you back. Don't watch the game sunday if stress is an issue. Start taking the walks. Take it slow but steady. You MUST increase the activity to recover.

Yea right ! That deserves a rebuttal. See I pay strict attention and....

I don't miss a lot related to Packers and football and the rest. You know why bobblehead.

I don't paint myself into 'homer corner. I look at everything analytically and objectively.

I use the good brain I was gifted with. :duel:

If Williams stays in control of 'his grease' he's not bad now. He's certainly trying hard.

PACKERS !

I hope all the talk about aaron not being as tough as favre hasn't led to aaron and fatboy McCarthy putting that collarbone in jeopardy...Flynn could carve that lame bears D himself and give aaron more healing time

You can bet that Aaron Rodgers was 100% ready or 'Man of Ice' Ted Thompson would have said ...NO to GO!

As to any comparisons to Favre and toughness. Noone at QB ever is in that conversation.

Favre defined the word 'tough' and NFL.

It's the Packer defense that worries me, not the offense.

I feel that Raji is miscast on this defense, and I'd like to go on record as saying I'd like to see this team go to a more attacking style by the defensive linemen. You've got three guys on your line - Raji, Worthy, and Daniels - that would work well on such a defense. And probably Datone Jones, too. Fit the scheme to the talent, I say.
