Packers have 40,000 playoff tickets going on sale tomorrow.

Apparently the fainting hearts who have season tickets didn't want to lend the Packers several hundred dollars, free of interest, for a month given the team's prospects.

Which means I will be buying if at all possible tomorrow.

Where do I want to sit that is not premium priced and where do I want to buy from (Ticketmaster, Packers.com, phone)?

I think we paid $192 for Playoff tickets last year on the 48 yard line 40 rows up. They would have been $208 a seat if we had gotten the NFC Championship game.

Bought mine at 5:00 PM and got in Section 110. If the seat chart I found was right we are in the last row of the section closest to the field. Corner of end zone, $122.5 a pop.

If 15,000 remain, there are going to be a few 49er fans there. One reason never to go 8-7-1 again.

The reason I'm sure why there are so many tickets available is because not many weeks ago nobody dreamed we'd be in the playoffs so season ticket holders didn't snap them up beforehand! Its only Tuesday. Once fans realize they don't have to pay a kings' ransom for them they will sell.

I knew ticketmaster fucked up. For a long time - they only had 'will-call' option. And it said 'will-call will be available 90min before kickoff'. My thought - why the fuck would Lambeau want to distribute 40,000 tickets to probably 10-20 thousand purchasers.

It actually caused me to not my extra tickets and try to flip them on ebay/etc as I didn't want to have to find someone before the game.

This AM - Ticketmaster realized this colossal mistake and sent them via email.

I definitely wanted to print - no big deal now. And they fixed it on ticketmaster now. best single seat left is packer side near 35 yr line - best 4 pack is in endzone.

True dat! So, that was the last home game against the Jets, and we beat them in 2010 (9-0 at Met Life, I believe) so we are due to play them next year. I can't believe we got smoked at home by the Jets, but I guess they were 10-6 that year.

I was trying to recall when PB Max had seen the Packers vs. Jets since he mentioned it may have involved Boomer Esiason, but that would have been 1993-1995, according to Wikipedia.

I should have dug further. Here is when they would have played Esiason when with the Jets.

11/13/1994 New York Jets W, 17-10 6-4-0

So, PB that's the last time you saw the Pack at Lambeau? If so, you're due!

I want to go, but I hate that feeling of being stuck in traffic for a couple of hours after a Packer loss. You sit in your car and wait and ponder about what went wrong. It is very depressing. A playoff loss? Knowing that the season is over til the next blue moon, that's worse than depression; it's borderline suicide.

Now, I still believe in the Packers. I hope the Packers win. Will they win? Packer defense is uninspiring.

It is easier for the mind to just watch the game at home. In the unfortunate event of a loss, one can simply drink a couple teaspoons of 10% alcohol cough syrup and sleep for awhile, or hire a female companion like I did after the infamous Viking playoff loss.

I still might attend the game, though, if fat capit, err, fat pigs lower ticket prices sufficiently later this week.

That's a family tradition driving home from Packer games. It's especially fun to drive through the heart of Chicago after a Packer win/Chicago loss, with the Packer flags flying and waving at every car that has Bears stickers/flags on it.

I think that is part of it. The other part is that with four divisions and two wild cards, you get some decided underdogs at home where a lot of playoff tickets will not have been bought by the season ticket holders.

Best part of tickets left for sale was watching Packer writers to to discern how the blackout would affect TV viewing and how much it would cost a sponsor to buy up the tickets.

Vadermause, before someone corrected him calculated 8.500 tickets would cost $1 million dollars to buy up. He forgot the team can buy the tickets from themselves for 34% of face value AND they only need to sell non-premium seating.

Tickets running from $102 to 125, let's call that an average cost of 113.5. If ALL 8,500 available are non-premium, the Packers can put the game on TV for:

8,500
x 113.5
----------
$964,750
x .34
----------
$328,015

If the players who make $1 million or more kicked in $1,000/million, they could buy up all the tickets, give them away to youth groups across the state, and probably get a tax deduction for the value of their contributions.

The Packers have no one to blame but themselves. They have had some pretty miserable playoff performances lately, including games at Lambeau. They have been dominated by SF. I suspect a lot of fans expect them to lose, maybe even be embarrassed, and see no reason to shell out hundreds of dollars, waste many hours getting to and from the game, and sit in sub-zero wind chills to watch a game that won't be very entertaining.

A lot of fans will regret not buying tickets when the Packers win on Sunday. (Yup, I feel a victory coming on!)

Even our local guys in discussing the Broncos this morning were theorizing that the Broncos have the worst defense in the playoffs and that, they know about the Packers 428 points given up, but they don't count because no one is giving Green Bay much of a shot to advance very far, if even past the first round.

I felt better about Green Bay's chances after that :). They get to carry the "no one believes in us" banner this year.

There's a lot of truth in there, but I really think it comes down to technology and culture. The improvement in the home experience has just far outpaced the stadium experience. Other than the aura of Lambeau field and being able to say "I was there," what else is there in that experience? I've been to a lot of games - usually 1 or two/year over the last 15 years home and away, and the hassle of the time, the drive and the potentially bad weather can really dampen the greatness of being there. The NFL might have to dramatically re-think how to draw people to the stadium, by offering things people cannot get at home. Player interaction comes to mind, or maybe an exciting fan Q and A with Ted Thompson. At least get rid of the advertisement dog and pony shows during breaks and halftimes and provide an exclusive great experience.

What? Break my standard game day traditions? Absolutely not! I will listen on the radio while recording the game, and watch it later that night!

Some day I will go to another game, just to see the new stadium as it functions on a game day, but I have never been big into the actual attendance thing.

Another plus about seeing a game live in person, even if you're sitting on a tiny piece of cheap bleacher next to a fat guy with a giant right in front of you and 3 Bears fans 3 rows downs that refuse to sit the fuck down, is that you actually get to see the game "live."

"Live" games on TV usually are 5-plus seconds delayed nowadays. Fucking FCC!

Delay is even longer when stealing, er, I mean watching broadcast over the internet. I will often listen to an internet station and watch at the same time. Then, when radio says they made a good play, I watch, and when radio says play sucked, I turn to take a drink of cheap whiskey. How goofy am I?

Well, if you believe that everything in the universe is predetermined, than, yes, 5 second is meaningless. But if it's 4th and 1 from the 48 with the season on the line, I would prefer to see a play jot by as it happens on TV, not 5 second later.

As for sitting through TV TOs, it really depends on the place. At places like FedEx Field, home to the Redtails, you get to see hot chicks dance.

TV TOs at Lambeau, however, is pretty lame. The cheerleaders dress like their grandmothers and the fucking UW band. WTF? Nobody on the current Packer roster played at Wisconsin. AJ Hawk is probably thinking, wtf? Hyde probably is thinking, wtf? I would get rid of the Wisconsin band.

Wow. The Packers, apparently not satisfied with the one month interest free loan they could obtain from season ticket holders who reserved playoff tickets in November, kindly allowed the folks who ponied up the money to apply any remaining balance to next year's season ticket purchase.

Don Walker, JSO:

Under the new policy, season-ticket holders were given the opportunity to claim their allotment of playoff tickets up to four tickets. The fans also had to commit to paying in advance for two playoff games, pay for the highest-priced seats and pay a small handling fee.

Had the Packers not made the playoffs, the money would have been applied to next year's season tickets.

I'm a gold package season ticket holder. This policy, combined with the fact that I didn't like the chances of the Packers making a deep playoff run is why I didn't apply for tickets. Any money that does not end up paying for tickets belongs to the customer, not the Packers IMHO. If the customer wants the money back, they should get it back. They tried to cover themselves by saying that is in line with what other teams do. I've considered writing to Murphy about my feelings on the subject, But I suspect they may already be getting the message.

Yeah, that seems a step too far. Offering the option to simply forward the balance makes sense. Taking away the option to get a refund is punitive. Especially since the team gets the money for a month with no charge and no guarantee of having to actually provide a game (or two).

As a guy who has said it to so many people over the course of my life, I am still surprised at how many people just stop asking, much less fighting for what is the right in any customer service scenario. Just the mere mention of the word "policy" seems to be a mental brick wall that makes people fall down and give up when they run into it.

Customer:
"So there's no way to get a refund?"

Agent:
"Sorry sir, I would love to help you out but unfortunately it's against policy"

It's like a magic word that casts a spell over people.

In the case of the Packers, it is an incredibly poor policy and I hope they feel the full impact of it.

I can understand not wanting to spend a bunch of time and postage sending money back and forth fairly quickly. I can also understand wanting to take care of playoff tickets earlier than the last moment.

But this is triple dipping: early interest free loan on playoff, interest free loan for season ticket renewals, plus efficiencies on processing.

That's it. I am starting the USFL back up. Someone call Trump.

i think the new policy has a lot to do with the mess, and this is something that if the game were to be blacked out in most of wisconsin because of something like this, i could see it costing murphy and some others their jobs

i read about one team, i think it was the seahawks, that sends out the applications for playoff tickets. collect the billing info, but they don't bill the fans until the postseason game is actually a sure thing. so seahawks fans have now been billed for their game next week, but won't be billed for the following week until they win next week. yet their tickets are secured

it is nothing short of an interest free loan to the team like PB siad. and its a stupid policy that has now embarrassed the team and its fans

Lets look at this another way. I would venture a guess (pure speculation) that the packers season ticket holders may be some of the poorest (in terms of net worth/income) in the NFL. I would speculate that this leads to them spending less at the stadium each sunday. What a better way to weed out those on limited funds than this "policy."

Now, I could also speculate that I am dead wrong and the packers fans drink more than any other fan base and thus spend more at the stadium. Wild conjecture to be honest.

Milwaukee seasons ticket holders got three tickets - one preseason and the second and fifth home games. It's called the "Gold Package." Still had to pay into the PSL back when they instituted that. If memory served it was 1800/seat for Gold package and ???? for the regular season ticket holders.

To the refund policy or not.

In the past, pre-2012, to be entered into the playoff lottery you had to fill out the form and send in a check. If the Packers made the playoff s and you were picked they would cash your check. If you didn't get picked the Packers would either rip up the check or let you apply the check to your next year's tickets.

Last year in 2012 they let you put a credit card number down and only if you got your number picked in the lottery was the credit card charged and only for the tickets used even though you get tickets for both possible home games.

This year you could use a credit card but they charged you no matter what and if you didn't get tickets or the Packers didn't make the playoffs the Packers held the money and applied to next year's tickets. 80,000 tickets at $100 per seat for two games = $16,000,000. Nice for the Packers.

It's a sellout.

Associated Bank bought an undisclosed number of tickets.

All tickets have been sold for Sunday’s NFC Wild Card Playoff game between the Green Bay Packers and San Francisco 49ers, the Packers announced Friday morning.

In addition to fan sales, a group of Packers corporate partners, led by Green Bay-based Associated Bank, purchased the remaining available tickets Friday to ensure a sellout and TV broadcast of the game throughout Wisconsin. Other corporate partners with a strong Wisconsin presence that purchased tickets are FOX TV affiliates WITI (Milwaukee), WLUK (Green Bay) and WFXS (Wausau); Mills Fleet Farm and Bellin Health.

“We’re very thankful to Packers fans, and our partners led by Associated Bank, for ensuring Sunday’s game will be sold out,” said Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy. “A unique season and other factors contributed to having tickets available, but with the support of our fans and partners, we’re looking forward to a great atmosphere Sunday at Lambeau Field for the playoff game against the 49ers. We also know fans around the state will be able to enjoy the telecast.”

Is there any chance of the game time being moved at this late date? Seems like the logistics would make that near impossible, but at what point do they decide it's just too damn cold? PFT was talking about the very real concern of player safety, frostbite, etc. They even insinuated the union might become involved.

yes

its $20 to park in most peoples yards, and then its a little more of a walk

there was a place, kind of in front of k-mart, that use to charge 20 for parking, but then they gave you a $20 coupon for after the game. i think it was margaritas. we went in after the game, had a couple drinks and some appetisers, let the traffic thin out, then hit the road

it was perfect.

but when i was down there a few weeks ago i think they had a sign out where you only got like 20% of your order if you park there or something

anyway reich is fine for 25, i mean its right across the street. however you can save 5 or 10 bucks if you don't mind walking a bit more

yup, you really want to avoid lombardi at all cost, especially this year with 2 of the 3 highways being all fucked up

my advice is to stick to the minor roads as long as possible, go in the opposite direction from the traffic, once you're away from the stadium, then start to worry about going in the right direction

or just do what i said above, go hang out in a bar or k-mart for 30 or 45 minutes and let everyone else screw with the traffic. then cruise on out of town like you own the roads

also PB, if you don't know already, 41 has just insane amounts of construction on it, and the big bridge on 43 on the north end of town is closed because it partially collapsed

Plan to get there early. I bought the $25 spot just to guarantee something close. Appreciate the suggestions Joe, Dan red and dean but figured I would be better served with a know commodity ahead of time. Haven't been to Lambeau since first recent renovation.

Next question is warmth and food/drink before the game. Plan is to be there before Noon. Need to be somewhere warm and with food.

Any suggestions on that?

I drive 41 north/south from Green Bay to Kimberly every day for work. Construction isn't as bad as it was, but the temporary cement barriers and temporary lanes make it interesting for those not familiar with it. I usually took back roads through Freedom and Oneida to get to and from the game. There's the usual cluster trying to get out of the stadium area, but if you know your way around the side streets, you can avoid the nightmare 41 becomes.

Glad they got the Frigo bridge open this weekend. Felt sorry for the poor guys who've been working around the clock to get that thing repaired. (hope it stays that fixed....)

Either one will work. I usually take Ridge to Cormier. Cormier to Packerland to 172. Take 172 past airport/casino and turn left (south) on Cty Rd. E. Takes you through Oneida Reservation and to Freedom. That takes me up to the Cty Hwy that goes past my home. As for 32/57 to 10, that'll work just as well as 54 to 55. Just depends on exactly where you are heading.

Either way, you are not stuck in the start/stop BS that 41 becomes from Green Bay until the Freedom exit. Any alternative route, you are constantly moving. Just have to watch for the county cops, they're really thick in either area.

i got one for the first time at my last cold game, and they are nice. for one, its another layer between your ass and the metal bleacher and second and probably most important, it gives you your whole "seat" or spot on the bleacher. when it gets cold and people have 50 layers on you'll be surprised how fast you can find yourself trying to squeeze into a 5 inch spot on the bench. these make sure you have all 8 inches

How narrow do you imagine a gorilla's (pbmax) ass is? Now there may be a few tight ass's that we might even be familiar with ...at the game. In such cases that 8 inch pillow may suffice.

This Canadian advises a down filled sleeping bag and a wool blanket for the feet ...Wraps 'for two'. Balaclava's are a good choice to keep your face warm. For additional insulation from the cold. Seduce the brain into not reminding you it's frigid; by drinking really cheap spiced Canadian Sherry, that should be available in your State.

i got one for the first time at my last cold game, and they are nice. for one, its another layer between your ass and the metal bleacher and second and probably most important, it gives you your whole "seat" or spot on the bleacher. when it gets cold and people have 50 layers on you'll be surprised how fast you can find yourself trying to squeeze into a 5 inch spot on the bench. these make sure you have all 8 inches

Have stadium seat. Not sure of padding. Might do impulse buy on way in and double the comfort.

If you're talking about carrying in a cushion, keep in mind there are new carry-in limits.

Traditional stadium seats with backs and seat pads are permitted as long as they do not exceed 18 inches wide and contain no pockets, zippers or concealable areas. Oversized seats and/or seats with arm rests or other attachments are not allowed. Prohibited items must be returned to your vehicle or they will be confiscated and discarded.

I am good. I have a Coleman thing that I am not too impressed with, but if it works for one game that is OK. The Farm and Fleet website had reviews for it and people were specifically asking if it was allowed at Lambeau. The answers were positive. Its 15.5 inches wide which means it will fit better than one of the occupants.

Otherwise the only other thing going in are two blankets.

The Bears are a-coming to town?

I think modern day humans should hunt only snakes and insects, so I find wearing hunter gears to a Packer game a bit offensive.

03/24/14 That's the ticket: NFL owners voted to change their playoff ticket sale policy Monday, in the wake of... http://bit.ly/1iWEype

Teams will no longer be allowed by the League to charge for theoretical playoff tickets prior to qualifying for said playoffs. However, they still will be able to charge for the theoretical 2nd playoff game once they clear the qualifying hurdle. Also does not seem to stop teams from applying your ticket payment balance to next year's season tickets.

It would seem this solves one of two problems the Packers had last year, but perhaps the lesser one. Most people I talked to objected to not being able to get a refund and having the balance carry over for three months to the season ticket payment window.
