View Full Version : Kudos to Mason Crosby

Mason Crosby followed up a terrible 2012 season with perhaps the best season by a Packers PK ever. Jan Stenerud had a slightly higher percentage in 1981, but only made two from 50+ with a long of 53. He also missed an XP. Ryan Longwell had four seasons between 85-89%, but only made six from 50+ in those four seasons combined. Crosby went 33 of 37 (second best percentage in Packers history)--including five from 50+. He made two kicks of 57 yards--including one outdoors in New York. Chris Jacke's 1993 season deserves mention also. He went 31 of 37 (the only season he made 80% or more in the harsh conditions of Green Bay) with 6 from 50+. This is somewhat reminiscent of Longwell's 2001 season. He made 64% of his FGs. Then, followed it up by making at least 82% of his kicks in each of the next three seasons.

Glad to see Mason got the message in the offseason. This is why players should have incentive laden contracts as the norm.

Crosby didn't win any come from behind games.

What's his track record in games the Packers lost by 3 or less?

Mason's near record setting performance this year was still 16th inn the League for overall accuracy. Eminently average. I have not sorted for indoor versus outdoor.

Yahoo shows him 13th in FG accuracy this year. None of the kickers ahead of him had more than his seven attempts from 50+. He was perfect inside 42. He had two of the five longest FGs on the season.

Let's all just admit we were wrong when we were clamoring for him to be cut in training camp.

Dude had a standout year.

But he still looks like that famous midget actor, Peter something. The guy that's on Game of Thrones.

Fair enough, I glanced at it while looking for 2 point conversions to argue with Harlan. If that's the case, entirely glad to have him back.

i don't think i called for his head to roll. i'm usually pretty forgiving if i think a player still has something to offer. mm is the last one i remember giving up on and it was due to his play calling. lol

He must've had girl troubles or something. Good to see but I still find myself cringing before every snap.

Right !??

He doesn't make the list for 4th Qtr. comeback kickers.

Shocking.

The 57 yarders put him above average. Also, I think he made nearly every kick that could remotely be defined as clutch. That had always been my knock on him.

$1.6 million, in fact. His base was reduced to $800K. He got $800K for the accuracy and $800 for being on the roster for every game.

Creative money management and player compensation.

A novelty in Pro Sports.

Maybe Ted Thompson is ahead of the curve on that account?

More of that Ted...please.

That's just the thing - were any of 'em clutch, even remotely? I can't think of any except the Ravens game, maybe Detroit? But so what, he was solid and reliable, and you didn't have to think about him too much, which is how it ought to be with the PK.

Are we not counting the blocked FG in the Pitts game?

No the penalty supercedes the play.

He kicked a FG to tie the Vikings in regulation with less than a minute to play, and the go-ahead FG in OT.
He went 3 for 3 in single digit temps and below zero wind chill in a 1 point win over Atlanta.

He had a great bounceback season...however I'm still scarred for life from the previous season. I still cringe when its apparent he might be called upon to win a game or make a huge attempt in the game. It's my Crosby PTSD

Unless the kick is ridiculously low I don't blame the kicker for blocked FGs.

I can't figure which is worse: that my memory is fading or that my laziness is increasing
