January 1st in here; in Wisconsin that means the Badgers are usually playing in a primetime Bowl Game. If the mods have an issue with this they can move it into the Badgers area; I was hoping for today it could be left in the prime area while the game goes no.

This is an Epic Game for the Badgers.....getting their shot against one of the most celebrated colleage players in the country and the consensus #1 draft pick in next year's draft until he had some bad character incidents which could cost him.

I still think UW has the talent to compete with anybody in Colleage Football when their QB can be at last average. While we continue to field a solid OL and NFL Calibur running backs, we just can't fine a QB to run this team.

It will be the last game for three great Badgers Sensiors in Chris Borland....who is the type of smash mouth football player I'd love to see in Green Bay....James White...who I once thought was a future NFL star after his freshman year and still has a shot to play some NFL Ball....and , Jared Abbrederis.....who will be the next story of a redshirt freshman to walk on at the UW Madison....only to earn a scholarship and have a successful NFL Career....aka....Jim Leonard.

Melvin Gordon has recently announced his return to the UW Madison next year after flirting with going pro early, and the Badgers defense has been very solid this year. With that being said, I do expect South Carolina's Jadeveon Clowney to have a filed day against the Badgers today and this one is going to be a ton of fun to watch.

First the first time in many years, I have a coach for the Badgers football team I can genuinely like a cheer for.

The Penn State loss was rough; we clearly came out flat and it was the first game this year WI was outcoached. With that being said, if Stave still hits his Wide Open Targets in the End Zone....we might win that game.....but still end up in the same bowl we are at.

This could be an EPIC game. My heart bleeds Cardinal and White...but my thoughts are the Badgers lose this one 34=27
I'd love to be the whamm here.

Feel free to post your thoughts now or during the game.

Whether Wisconsin wins or loses makes really is no difference. Seriously, who in three days will sit there ruminating over a loss, when there are zero consequences. Virtually nothing is on the line, so the game is simply boring and dull. All but one game matters in the college post season, except to people interested in scouting for the NFL. Until college football makes a 16 team playoff with 15 fantastic bowl games, all with championship consequences, the amount of excitement for these games will not stretch far beyond immediate friends family and homers. Traditional match ups are dead with conference re-alingments and the shifting sands of the soon to be defunct BCS. Nobody cares who wins the Hunger Games Bowl showing on Dec 27 at 8:30 on ESPN2.

The best DE in the game is playing for SC but he may fall in the draft due to character concerns
The Badgers have a TE in Pederson should I think will be an NFL Player; James White could be a scat back
Abbrederis I think is the college version of Jordy Nelson and a great route runner; a nice replacement if Jones leaves
Chris Borland IMO will be a pro at LB as well. We could use him

Watch the Winter Classic. At least it means something.

I get the playoff thing, and I completely agree. Should also be at least 8 rather than 4. Also realize that writers work both sides of every college and NCAA issue and we are days away from coverage ripping the new playoff system for potentially leaving the obvious 2nd best school out of the playoffs and that it would not have happened in the old, long lamented, superior BCS system.

The Bowl system is archaic but there are some traditions still in place. Neither the Badgers nor SC are out of place in the Capitol One Bowl, formerly the Citrus Bowl. Its meant to be a trip for the Alumni and extra practice for the football team. Its old, a money sink, weezing at this point and needs to be replaced.

But there are times when its still fun. It used to be the only time to see some of these teams. But like InterLeague play in baseball, its past its time.

Bretsky

Terrible....Horseshit Stave can't even thrown a ball away...he hits the Badger OL in the leg and it's intercepted. Next Play...Touchdown SC

pbmax
01-01-2014, 12:38 PM
Man, the Badgers wasted a good scoring opportunity with a penalty on the line.

Then a tipped ball off someone's leg gives SC an INT.

Its like watching the Packers at this point.

Stave sucks, why or why can't Badgers get a decent quarterback. They would have a hell of a team with a slightly better than average QB.

Without the playoff, the tradition was the huge selling point. And that tradition is totally gone. No one 25 and under has any understanding of bowl history and tradition whatsoever; they want to put their fathers (if they have one) in the retirement home for even talking about traditional match ups in the Cotton Bowl or Rose Bowl.

So far the Badgers seem able to run the ball down SC's throat. Great Drive

The Badger WR IMO is going to have a very sucessful NFL Career. Two guys I'd love to see in Green n Gold are Abbrederis and Borland
But Borland a shorter that 6ft at ILB so I'm doubtful TT would buy into him. Some coach will though.....he's John Offerdahl like...and hell test better than people think at the combine. Some coach will see the fire and fall in love with him.

Its kinda funny, but the SEC lawsuit against TV rights opened the can of worms in 1984. A rare successful anti-trust case in the mid 80s. Took the money and control away from the NCAA very quickly in football. The huge money in football put that Dept even MORE in the drivers seat.

They fared better in basketball where the Tourney was the big money draw. Had playoffs come to college football rather than the old boy Bowls, NCAA would still be in the driver seat.

I laugh when anyone blames the NCAA for football violations. They don't even have money to have a full time investigation staff. Yahoo! is the service they use.

The other story that is funny because no one else thinks it is is the demise of the Big East. It was the original formed for TV conference that was widely blamed for breaking up smaller, more local conferences. It made itself hugely vulnerable by expanding to increase its football presence ager being very successful in basketball. The other more stable conferences are now picking over its pieces. The Catholic League/new Big East gets back to a basketball conference that makes sense and will have a decent TV contract.

SC is run blitzing and they have a stoned a couple in the backfield. One of those runs is going to break open though AND the Stave should be able to play action off it.

However, whoever teaches tackling at SC should be immediately hired by the Packers. Their back 7 don't let go if they get a hand on you.

The spots of the ball by the refs have been terrible for Wisconsin and great for South Carolina. SC gets an additional yard each play, we get minus 1 yard each play. The phantom hold in the 3rd quarter following the SC fumble was the turning point of the game though. We lost it at that point.

Phillips bounces two off Clowney's helmet and second one gets intercepted (did not matter it was fourth down).

But that second one was on the LT cut block. That block was worthless. Clowney barely needed to jump to clear it.

channtheman
01-01-2014, 02:59 PM
The play calling in the second half has been terrible. Went away from the really cool option running plays. First drive we run all the way down the field and then do two passes not involving play action. Late in the game we go on 3rd and 4th and 1 and run into a 10 man box right up the middle. We didn't do any of those things in the first half, so not sure why we did them in the second half.

The spots of the ball by the refs have been terrible for Wisconsin and great for South Carolina. SC gets an additional yard each play, we get minus 1 yard each play. The phantom hold in the 3rd quarter following the SC fumble was the turning point of the game though. We lost it at that point.

This.

Refs have given SC at least 30 yards of field position.

Should be a first down, would be if that was SC.

MM is secretly calling the plays, as is Capers calling the D.

Dumb. Had White open for a first down and through it into triple coverage trying to get a TD.

Should NOT be throwing. We could STILL have run it. Ludwig is terrible in the 2nd half.

Radio said Fredericks was open left as well.

He was. Had 2 wide open options. Back to the point though, should be running. Phillips can't throw, and doesn't even need to.

And after the replay, he actually had his guy open, but doesn't lead him at all. The throw was terrible.

Well, 200 yards rushing will make it seem like that. But remember they stoned the last two running short yardage attempts on the first Phillips drive. Unlike Stave, they are not worrying about pass with Phillips in there.

Wisconsin is the only team that has offensive coordinators that can't take advantage of the best running game in the country.

Those 2 short runs were right up the gut against a stacked box. We didn't do the creative run option plays that were working in the first half. Very uncreative, unlike the first half.

stop throwing short to Clowney's side Badgers. He's 6' 11".

I think its the same OC and same plays. But its Phillips versus Stave as far as the Defense is concerned.

Wow, that was weird. Radio said that was planned for this game.

EDIT: Well, that is probably too easy. I am sure that after Stave's injury, they did not use the entire playbook on that first drive when Phillips came in.

Probably not, and then there was NO reason to go for it on 4th and 1. Should have attempted the field goal.

2 trips to the redzone and 3 points in the second half. They shot themselves in the foot right there.

The phantom hold very early in the 3rd quarter was a HUGE turning point that you won't hear about.
