1st and goal inside the 10 and Lacy doesn't get to touch the ball once...stop over thinking and go with what works.

Like I said early in this thread, stubby's dumbass play calling will rear it's ugly head.

i'm guessing san fran goes on a 5 minute drive and kicks a FG to win

I'm so tired of our injuries. Our team looks like a bunch of 70 year old geezers out there, limping and hobbling around...or they are sitting on the sidelines because they can't even get on the field.

McCarthy needs to make some major adjustments this offseason. Special teams is abysmal. The defense was a sieve most of the year. Even the offense looked putrid at times when Rodgers was healthy.

No, it was not a good game by defense, no it was not a good game on Offense, no it was not a good game on special teams. WE lost! Expect more than we have Packerrats, and God, I hope the powers that be in Green Bay make the right moves/changes or we will have to keep putting up with mediocrity...

I wish but not a chance.

Everyone will be retained including Slocum.
The front office (Ted Thompson) is too stubborn (and stupid) to change and that includes delving into free agency.

Next year .... more of the same .... in the meantime the 'window of opportunity' with Rodgers in his prime closes some more ....

We just didn't make the necessary plays we needed to win. One stop on defense on that last series. A couple of dropped passes that would have been difficult to make, but had to be made against a team that was better than we are. Kaepernick is not very accurate, but he has great legs. Pretty proud of the way the defense played over all, with the decimated roster. If Rodgers was 100%, I think we might have won this game. But "if ifs and buts were candy and nuts" . Oh well..

SMBASS
01-05-2014, 06:59 PM
Ted needs to go out and sign a couple of PROVEN vets on D like he did with Pickett and Woodson when they still had some good years left. His "draft and develop" strategy isn't getting it done on the D side of the ball.

Yep, as mentioned earlier, you only get so many chances to make those plays in a close game and making one here or there usually ends up being the difference in the ballgame. Especially once you get into the playoffs. In over simplified terms we had our chances on both O and D and just didn't make enough of those plays to win the game today.

The Tramon drop in end zone. Rodgers underthrowing Jones and him not coming up with the ball. The Hyde potential pick six. The opportunities were there but didnt come up with them

James Jones was close a few times to long gainers.

I can't find any fault with the Micah Hyde flub of a potential pick. He needs exposure/composure...experience and he owns that pick six all day.

MM is a major reason why we lost this one. He has to seriously consider giving up coaching in Green Bay. He tightens up in BIG games.

MM has to take over the top blame for this loss. I believe he'll tell us that or he's certainly in denial.

He called a bad game and missed a lot. He's just not very good.

Rodgers made something out of NOTHING on plays he had no business staying on his feet. That wasn't the Bear defense. I was surprised they were in it at the end. With the 49ers running game and the defense they field it shouldn't have been that close.

So I really want the Packers to be great again, especially before I die. And right now, there are very few great players or areas of the team, including the coaching staff. Maybe it is time to blow it up, trade Rogers, or Clay, or whomever. Let the entire average coaching staff take a hike. That seems the fastest way to a good team again. Otherwise, we could be average for a very long time.

Rodgers sucked? Seriously?

Rodgers never got comfortable. He often held onto the ball too long and there were open men. He did put balls on target or adjusted to target that receivers simply couldn't haul in. He did the spectacular and pulled some real boners.

This wasn't a good game for Aaron Rodgers.

Your not wrong. As this team exists now on the leadership side it's doomed.

There has to be major changes and not some damage control really cute band aid approach to ducking out of the mess we see in Green Bay.

Yup that's the TRUTH.

I'm in shock and it's MM and playoffs at now 6-5 that is a clear reason our Packers aren't planning next week in Carolina,

That really hurts a lot.

Sure I'll recover but I need to see something negative happen to the welfare of certain Packers coach's and some players sent down the road.

The plan is failing? Nope !!!

The plan has failed !! It's time for a new plan.

Looked to me like the game plan called for us to run the ball to set up the pass. We ran the ball well, but SF played us to pass on almost every down. The big pass plays we had were nearly all broken plays that Rodgers extended with his legs. It was actually a very good game plan, but Rodgers was just not at the top of his game. He probably was told to brace himself and take the sack to avoid re-injury, and he did that too many times. This resulted in missed chances.

MM called a good game, but I suspect that we had quite a few missed blocks that hurried some passes and slowed some runs. Remember, SF has a very good defense, so it wasn't just our mistakes. A very wise person on this board once said" it's players, not plays". Very true.

OUR 'D' did well today and our offense (MM and OC and Aaron Rodgers) let us down horribly.

Trading Rodgers?? Not no, but HELL NO! Matthews, no. We need to let some guys take a hike in this offseason and get better talent. Jones, Raji and Finley are expendable. Jones had 2 huge drops today. Raji was part of a non-existent pass rush without a blitz or Matthews in the game.

I admit 2 of the sacks he held on the ball too long. But that TD pass to Nelson was all Rodgers.

They need a good 3 down ILB. There's a lot of speculation that Denver might have to let Wesley Woodyard go next year. He might be a good fit for the Packers as a mid-level FA if that's the case.

And who will need to be fired when that happens? :-)

I'm not as passionate as Wist about the need to fire Capers because I think part of it is that TT has whiffed on some draft choices, or the coaching staff has not been able to develop some of the talent, or they have had to juggle because of considerable injuries. That said, I do think it's ultimately Dom's responsibility for the success level of the defense and that he should be replaced because they just need a different voice and certainly much more consistent results.

If other teams can improve their defense then so can the Packers, and really, they have to so they don't squander this great window the team has with A-Rod.

I agree with your friend. I just watched the replay and Rogers may have made it to the goal line if he had been aggressive. Whether he would have scored, I don't know, but he would have made going for it on fourth down mighty tempting.

I think there was a penalty on that play and SF declined it because it was obvious that GB would kick the field goal. That's why Rodgers slid down instead of going all Lacy on that run.

If Rodgers had been more aggressive and got closer to the goal line, SF would probably have accepted the penalty, giving the Pack another kick at the can.

I believe Stubby got way too conservative in the situation (playing for the tying field goal). There was about 5 minutes left. If I were Stubby I would have not kicked the field goal but went for the TD. If I make it, SF has 5 minutes to score a TD as opposed to a field goal to win. If I didn't make it, the score is still 20 to 17 and SF has the ball on the five yard line and is very conservative. Consequently, GB has a better chance at a stop and getting the ball back.

i thought i remembers 2 defenders between him and the goal line

a rod would have had to lower his busted shoulder and try and plow two guys over

and like has been mentioned, there was a flag on the play that was declined by SF. if he had scored a td it wouldn't have counted anyways

Most likely he would not have scored, but very likely he would have gained another two or three yards if he had not hesitated and been more aggressive. Does SF still decline the penalty with the ball on the two or three? Unlikely. If they do, Stubby has a decision to make. If they don't, GB has third down with the ball on the 19.
