Speculation was that Ball picked up the pieces.

If that's the case, maybe it's good that Murphy didn't give him the GM job.

Yeah. When he came back from that longer than expected absence after having a medical procedure, he looked lost.

I wonder if part of the problem the last 3-4 years was that Ted really wasn't running the show.

He was calling Mike Sherman for advice?

LaDarious Fucking Gunter started at CB in the playoffs, for fuck’s sake! Proof that Todd was still in charge back then.

Sherman would’ve signed Antonio Cromartie. Even though Cro wasn’t the pimp he was in his youth, with his time-vested experiences fighting NFL wars, he woulda limited Julio Jones to 100 yards receiving and a TD instead of 250 and 3 as goddamned Gunter did.

I'm pretty sure they weren't excited to have to use Gunter, but injuries and their approach to building depth at the position was the reason. Thing is, if he was some diamond in the rough prospect that was going to be developed, he certainly didn't stick around Green Bay and no other club really wanted him.

Which is worse as a reputation, having other teams make a silk purse out of your sow's ear, or realizing that what you thought could be a silk purse was actually a sow's ear and nobody else thought it was worth the bother?

Every Packer fan should be happy that we are moving on from avg players, below avg players, mistakes... Ryan was simply too limited as an athlete.

Unfortunately, the one glaring mistake Gute seemed to make from last years draft was Ryan's supposed replacement, Burks.

If Burks is as confused again this year as last, cut him and move on

Anyone know the contract details. I'd be curious to know just how much the Rams are actually going to (over) pay him this year, since I highly doubt he will play well enough to see the second year of the contract.

Clay's motor may always be running, but he's down to two cylinders and his timing belt is slipping.

Better not go by "Tex" then. This Cobb gets hit by a safety and he's out for a month.

That's just being a smart aleck, though. In truth, he was a fine player for a time, until the injuries caught up to him.

In three years, he'll be coaching wide receivers at Kentucky. In five years, he'll be coaching wide receivers in the NFL. In seven years, he'll be an offensive coordinator. Ten years, he'll be an NFL head coach.

Here's an interesting one. Remember Mike Pennel, the huge DT? Spent three years in GB, playing some. Then two years with the Jets playing regularly. Signed a two year contract this off season with the Patriots, worth $8M with roster and game day bonuses but very reachable since he hadn't missed a game with the Jets. Waived this week.

Found this from an article when he signed, which also mentions former Packer Lawrence Guy:

According to Pro Football Focus, Lawrence Guy (90.1) and Pennel (87.1) were the highest graded interior defensive lineman in the AFC East last season. That includes both Shelton and Brown, who weren't even graded inside the top-5 among the division's interior lineman, all of which were Jets players outside of Guy.

Speaking of Guy, now that Pennel is in the fold, the Patriots have a chance to have a pretty solid tandem at defensive tackle next season. Guy has established himself as a strong option at the position throughout his tenure with the club. He arrived in 2017 and has blossomed into quite the reliable option for the Patriots. That favorable grade by PFF not only put him atop the interior linemen in the AFC East, but he's also eleventh among his peers in the entire NFL for last year. Last season, Guy totaled a career high of 59 tackles and 11 quarterback hits to go along with a sack and a forced fumble.

Lawrence Guy has gone on to have a pretty good career with NE.

So the Brownies go up against the Jets and former coach/contract killer Gregg Williams this Monday. When Huge Jackson was Fired Williams was interim coach and Blue Emo (and other players) hated him because he brought discipline to the team (noting of course that it was under Williams they actually won games). OBJ is now claiming that Williams targeted people for injury last year and will be targeting him Monday. Most likely the Browns hired Assistant running backs coach Freddie Kitchens to the head coach job for the always winning reason that “the players love him” (cf. Vaughn Booker and his “man, we had it made” comment playing for Ray Rhodes). So it’s likely the Browns May collapse on the Field a bit under the weight of Kitchens’ front porch and buddy buddy style. Maybe not Monday due to the depletion of the Jets roster, and maybe not completely due to the high talent level of the roster, but with a rookie head coach, a dearth of wisdom, and potential malcontents and criminals all over the roster, the factory of sadness could have an epic chapter in this season when the Browns were absurdly expected by too many to just roll into the AFCC game.

Morgan Burnett with a pretty good take on this:

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/28005022/cleveland-browns-waive-jermaine-whitehead-threatening-posts

Browns safety Morgan Burnett, who also played with Whitehead in Green Bay, said he hoped the safety could find outside support.

"We're going to miss him because that was a guy that played a lot of snaps for us, a guy that was a good teammate in the locker room. I just feel like it was a situation where his emotions got the best of him," Burnett said. "We're going to miss him, but I think for me personally because I played with him in Green Bay, I take it past football and it's just something where I just want to pray for him, wish him the best and get the help that he needs and pray that he gets back on his feet.

"But as a team, just outside of football, just as a bond of brothers, we're going to miss him."

Burnett said he understood that the Browns couldn't tolerate Whitehead's posts.

"We all have to do a job," he said. "We all are held accountable and held to a certain standard no matter where we are within the organization. They stand behind the brand and I think that's just part of being a professional. You have to carry yourself a certain way even at times when you feel like your buttons are being pushed, you still have young people, young kids looking up to us and watching everything we say and the way we move.''

Former Packers UDFA in some trouble:

Free agent wide receiver Max McCaffrey is currently serving a 10-week suspension, according to Field Yates of ESPN. According to Yates, McCaffrey began serving the suspension in Week 8, thus, he has eight weeks remaining. McCaffrey was previously suspended by the league for four weeks to begin the 2018 season for an undisclosed reason as well. While there has been no reporting on the specific cause of the suspension, both suspension lengths are common for positive performance-enhancing drug tests.

Since turning pro in 2016, McCaffrey has bounced between 53-man and practice squad rosters for a number of organizations. He has spent time with the Raiders, Packers, Saints, Jaguars, and 49ers, but has managed just one career reception for four yards.

I heard his agent brought the pen and contract to one room, but J'Mon went to a different room. As a result, his agent is refusing to negotiate for him in the future, until J'Mon can prove to him he knows which rooms to go to for different things.

Poor J'Mon. I hope he's not on Packerrats!

Boy, though, he really was not able to respond to his first-year woes. It wasn't quite Steve Sax Syndrome level, but it was hard to watch.

Well, considering Carr probably has 4 games left as the Raiders starting QB, this could be a big career move.

Yes, unless you are the Patriots in which case you trade 2 of them to Detroit, Cleveland or San Francisco and get 2nd round picks for each.

I don't think Pankey was active for any game this year and wasn't in their plans except in the event of a catastrophe, even though he has been with them for three years. I also think they regarded him as more of a guard than a tackle. Veldheer is their Bulaga insurance policy. While he may not be active when Bulaga is starting, he will be starting if Bulaga is out. Good move for the playoffs.

The Bruce Wilkerson Award is up for grabs!

I think that was a very solid signing. Guy can practice and get himself into shape in the next couple of weeks, get some practice reps while Bulaga rests.

So with Cole Madison and Lane Taylor both gone, who are the backup tackles?

So for $8M DET got 9 G (2 started), 1 Sk, 10Tkl, 2TFL.

Safe to say this was not a good year for Mike (or the Lions).

My guess is given his age, size, and motor, his body is breaking down. That happens to 6 foot guys who fight in the trenches.

Would you move Neon Deion in his prime to safety?

Mr. Hyde was indeed an abomination...at corner. Hyde playing safety nowadays is proof.

And LaFluer’s offense has been inconsistently mediocre. Sure, the German Shepherd is partly at fault - Sloth is starting, for fuck’s sake. Shoulda drafted Metcalf in the 2nd, and if he still wanted a Yokozuna (fat guy), Mike Dieter of Wisconsin was available at the Pack’s pick in the 3rd.

What did the GOAT say about A-Rod putting up colossal stats in NE’s system? J-Mac woulda/coulda certainly made A-Rod fab again, Sloth or no Sloth.

That he could take even more advantage of the institutional knowledge that Belichick has about NFL defenses.

Which at this point means library and probably signal stealing. Which J Mac won't take with him to his next coaching stop.

I don't remember you dinging Hyde at corner, I do remember you calling him an abomination for his hands because of a dropped pick.

Muhammad Wilkerson's comeback not going well.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/28837686/former-jets-packers-dl-muhammad-wilkerson-facing-dwi-drug-charges

Former New York Jets and Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson was charged with DWI, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia after an early morning arrest Monday, a New Jersey State Police spokesman confirmed on Wednesday.

Wilkerson, 30, who last played in 2018, was stopped for a traffic violation on Interstate 80 westbound in Paterson at 2:45 a.m., police said. He was accompanied by a 28-year male passenger, Jihad Ballard, who was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police did not release the results of a blood-alcohol test. A source said Wilkerson was not given a standardized field sobriety test.

Both men were released pending a court date.

Wilkerson plans to work out with a personal trainer in the Los Angeles area as he prepares for a comeback.

This marked Wilkerson's second DWI arrest in less than a year. His Rolls Royce was stopped last June 1 in New York and his blood-alcohol level was allegedly 0.09, slightly above the legal limit.
