I had a dream last night about the Super Bowl.

Den wins 13-10 with a TD in the last two minutes of the game.

Denver 45-17.

The only way Seattle wins is if the refs allow mugging of Denver's receivers. This game is up to the refs. You'll know pretty quickly how that's going to go...

Back when I liked Seattle, the refs took the Super Bowl away from them and gave it to Pitt. Maybe today the refs let things go to give Seattle the trophy.

The NFL clearly wants Peyton to win at least one more Super Bowl (if he doesn't retire this year, he'll win it next year too.) The Broncos win easily when the refs call the Seahawks DB for PI/holding at critical moments in the game.

Interesting take. So if Seattle starts the mugging, do you think the Broncos DBs will get away with the same? And wouldn't that be an unfair trade-off given each teams' strengths?

I think the refs with call it the same both ways. But as you noted before not calling PI will certainly favor Sea.

I see the refs letting them play until the last few minutes of the game. Then a mysterious flag or two will fly.

that's healthy paranoia/conspiracy theory stuff! I have to say that how the game is called is the most interesting aspect of the game for me. How many games did NE win over Manning with this strategy, and will it be employed again with success or failure. Stay tuned!

Maybe, just a gut feeling I have.

I just am not impressed at all with the Sea O and if they had to go on the road I think the would have lost in the playoffs.

Seahawks D clogs it up early before Manning and Broncs figure it out. Wilson can'd do enough early to put game out of reach.

Manning has always been pretty sketchy with pressure in his face. He just usually never faces any because blitzers open holes in the defense that Denver's offense has exposed with quick-hitting pass plays.

Seattle not only harried Manning all game, but shut the door on the underneath stuff to boot.

The only time Manning won a SB was in Indy with a dynamite D opposite Rex Grossman! Peyton is a wonderful regular season QB but not so hot in the playoffs.

Well, that D was more mite than Dino. They were terrible for the entire season, especially against the run. The return of Bob Sanders saved them in the playoffs.

when he through the pick I called it 5 seconds earlier (I was watching with a seattle fan). I said "hmmm....3rd and 7, haven't moved the ball yet. This is where Manning and Favre always feel like they MUST make a play and end up throwing a pick so you can't punt". It was great. Everyone thinks I'm a genius and they forgot the 10 things I was wrong about.

PS...Can anyone bump the thread where tank predicted that Peyton would cement his legacy as the greatest QB ever and I quoted it and said he would cement his legacy as the greatest regular season qb ever.

The problem with Manning is that, even as great as he is at this point in his career, he is an immobile QB. The Seahawks didn't have to worry about losing containment, having him scramble downfield,or running a bootleg play. And Manning is just not very accurate, or able to drive the ball down the field with his arm.

I won't take anything away from the defense, but the Bronco's offense played right into their strengths.

After that performance yesterday I wonder where Settle's D ranks among the best all time. You hold the number one scoring offense in NFL history to 8 points in the biggest game of the year after dominating the regular season as well. Settles d scored more points than Devers O. Who would have predicted that.

Football Outsiders had them at 3rd behind the 85 Bears and the 02 or 03 Bucs. 2000 Ravens should get some credit, but they played a very poor offensive slate of games and most ratings systems that take strength of opponent into account knock them down accordingly.

FWIW, all of those teams only won one Superbowl and failed to maintain their level of dominance.

Hey, I mentioned that in another thread. I also included the Giants' defenses, if only for their playoff runs.

Interesting, among the top 5 defenses all time. They sure played like it yesterday.

Hey, I mentioned that in another thread. I also included the Giants' defenses, if only for their playoff runs.

I get the point, but what does that prove. I think its just hard in general to win multiple superbowls no matter how you get it done. Since the start of the salary cap era (1994), only the pats have able to win three and get to four or more. Since 2000, 11 different teams have represented the NFC in the superbowl. Only the Giants have been able to go multiple times. Whats kind of sad is since 1994 we are probably the only team that can say they have had two MVP/Hall of frame Qbs every year and we have only won two in the last 20 years.

edit: Settle went in 05

Personnel wise, it's a mismatch when one GM has to start with a cap half-filled by the QB. Seattle is in that sweet spot where they are getting $50M QB play out of a $1M player. Seattle's defense has been beefed-up thru free agency (not to mention Percy Harvin.)

Kind of a double-edged sword to have a franchise QB like Manning, Rodgers, Brady. Your superman better be super, because your D probably has weak spots.

To make matters worse for Denver, they played without their defensive stud, Von Miller.
