Sorry, if this was covered but GVR was released yesterday. The Packers told him they wanted to get bigger. Does that mean EDS is on his way out as well? He's around the same size.

Barclay and Bakhtiari better start hitting the all-you-can-eat buffets as well.

Interesting? Why release him now? Injury not heal right? hmmm

Agent said his foot was completely healed and he could have come back during the season. Definitely strange timing.

They still have a roster limit to meet (90) and probably don't want to tie up too many with guards and centers. Could indicate that Garth Gerhart and/or Lane Taylor are guys they now like better than Van Roten and they want room for some new blood at the positions. If he is their third center without EDS and their 4th with him, and no better than their 4th guard, they might as well use the roster spot to look at someone new.

Bossman, where did you read the "want to get bigger" part? Just curious if I need to man the barricades for an attack from Mount McGinn this Sunday.

Strange how you can go rags to an embarrassment of riches at a personnel group in just a season.

Prepare for an attack

“I spoke to them, and they felt like they wanted to get bigger,” Baldini said. “They didn’t think he’d be in their plans for the immediate future, so they decided it would be better for him if they let him go now. It’s a shame because he loves the Packers organization and loves the town.”

How many centers go bigger than 6' 3" and 303?

That's what I was thinking. Either Baldini reads this board and is trolling us or the Pack decided he wasn't a center, and not stout enough at guard.

Bigger is code for better, because the Packers never come out and say a player was dumped because he sucked.

And Van Roten wasn't very good last year. He had a disappointing preseason. He made the team because someone had to be the backup Center.
