Figured this could use a thread. Could you really watch him do that hogtie thing in GB?

i have no clue where we would play him, he doesn't fit our 3-4 at all

another site mentioned that the GB link might have just been made to make it look like he had more suitors to drive up his asking price

Best bet on DE Jared Allen's new home?:

I'd bet that he's going to sign with Denver.

He is big enough to play end. Problem is that with him and Clay you would do best to move them around, which creates a higher learning curve, and all we read about is how injuries is creating havoc with assignments.

I'm sure he'd be listed as an OLB and rush the edge standing up. Its a solid way to extend your career but it'd be unusual for a player to be so confident in their ability to make that switch. I guess his next contract will likely be his last so he's got nothing to fear.

No thanks though. Not because he's not good or anything just that I can't stand the douchebag.

I want him. Sign him. He can cover as well as whoever chump we line up out there anyway :)

Agree 31, I don't really want him, just speculating he can play the end in a 3-4 if he has the desire. I don't want a past his prime ex viking.

Nah. He'll go to a 4-3 team, and TT doesn't bring old guys like that in anyway.

Maybe Chicago if he wants to stay in the NFCN; I think DET wouldn't have enough cap space for him but I'm sure he'd prefer a dome/warm climate. Next year the Vikes play outdoors until the new stadium's done.
Otherwise I could see someplace like TEN, PHI, or the Raiders. I think he'd fit right in with the crazies in Oakland. Maybe Dallas, ATL, or TB takes a shot?

There will be teams kicking the tires, but Gb won't be one of them. Agree he's on his last contract and it won't be close to what he was earning.

I'd bring him in on a cheap deal as a pass rush specialist but no way am I paying him to be an every down DE or OLB

Although not an ideal fit for the defense, he's waay better than anyone on the team now.

Sign him! We'll find some place for him on defense, I've seen enough of this guy over the years to know hes an elite pass rusher. You pair him and Clay Matthews together and we now have the bash brothers bringing the much needed pass rush. http://braindeadradio.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/D2.gif

I can not imagine him opposite CM III OR on the same side...the offenses would not be happy.

well, if you line them up on the same side of the field, then the second that the ball is snapped and allen tries to beat his guy to the outside, clay's going to be taken out of the picture by the guard that allen is also suppose to be tying up.

making clay worthless

Or CMIII goes inside and a guard cant handle his speed.

There's ZERO chance Allen signs with Green Bay. Wrong scheme. This is Allen's wishlist--not TT's wishlist.

Ehh, with the massive talent jarred allen has, I think DC would have no problem finding a place for him, bit there's no way TT offers him more than another team. Only way he comes here is if he thinks he can win a super bowl here.

this is capers we're talking about. we haven't seen him fit a squared peg in the circle hole yet, even though TT keeps throwing him all kinds of square pegs

Hardly. Players get jettisoned all of the time when they don't fit a scheme. It happens every time a team changes schemes. Aaron Kampman was 4-3 DE that didn't fit a 3-4. DeMarcus Ware is much better in a 3-4 than a 4-3.

FIVE CLAP POST

Some guys are smash mouth football players

Allen would excel rushing the passer with the Claymaker

With that being said..............COME ON MAN..............this is TT we're talking about

You don't change your 3-4 scheme because a 32-year-old 4-3 DE becomes available.

Allen can't play OLB and sure as hell isn't a 3-4 DE. Stopping the run is not his strong suit and he's been known to coast a lot recently for the Vikes.

Yeah, I sure as Hell wouldn't change anything after all the success we've had on defense for the past three years! (Just kidding Harvey. I couldn't resist!)

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports free agent Jared Allen is in talks with the Bears and Seahawks.
Allen apparently wanted to go to Denver, but the Broncos look to be closing in on a contract with DeMarcus Ware. Allen is not as desirable a commodity as Ware at this stage of their careers, despite the 2013 sack statistics. Seattle tried trading for Allen prior to last year's deadline and has maintained interest. Allen would book end new $35 million man Lamarr Houston in Chicago.

Allen to Seattle............yuck............heck........... I'll take Allen on the Bears since he ain't coming to Green Bay

Ware to Denver..or a team like Indy....make sense

Ware got cut because his salary didn't match the production he would give in a 4-3. That doesn't mean they would of gotten rid of him if he had a reasonable price attached to him. Same thing with kampman. Different schemes emphasize different players but that doesn't mean talented players cannot fit into certain situations in any scheme. If kampman took a pay cut, we would have kept him. That's what allen would have to do.

Plus, it's been rumored that if Allen doesn't get the $ and situation he wants, he's ok with retiring. Not sure how good it is to get a player who has that mentality of being ok to quit.

Not sure how good it is to get a player who has that mentality of being ok to quit.

One good thing about the Vikings is that they adequately prepare a player's mind for retirement.

Pretty sure its against forum rules for you to pimp for a 1-2 all white pass rush.

That's exactly what I was thinking today and evidently that retiring talk is really him. He really admired Barry Sanders and how he got to a point he just had to walk away form the NFL.

Also maybe it's a little of this:

Was it really rough on him in Minny?

If Allen does sign up, he'll probably have a good year. Guy's got a motor.

He's just not a fit in GB.
