First Round

We have a trade! The Packers trade their 1st round pick (#21 overall) to the New England Patriots for the Patriots 1st round pick (#29 overall), and 3rd round pick (#93 overall) and 6th round pick (# 198 overall). With Vince Wilfork wanting out of New England, the Patriots want Louis Nix. TT tells BB he's taking Nix unless they do the trade.

First Round (#29 overall)

C.J. Mosley ILB Alabama

http://blogs.tennesseevalleynow.com/bamablog/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/1df203c97d23f727430f6a7067007dc9.jpg

Will provide an instant upgrade over Brad Jones. Great instints and is always around the ball.

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1762120/cj-mosley

STRENGTHS: Mosley does a nice job using his length and lower body fluidity to keep himself clean through a crowd and finishes at the ball, wrapping and driving through his target. He is very smart and keeps his eyes on the ball to track and attack and rarely makes mental mistakes, which is a result of his high football IQ and preparation skills.

WEAKNESSES: Isn't always fundamentally consistent as a tackler, at times opting to throw himself at his target or drop his head on contact. Missed time in 2011 with a dislocated elbow.

COMPARES TO: Lavonte David, LB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Like David, Mosley's combination of toughness, elite instincts and superb athleticism offer the versatility of lining up inside or out, and have enabled him to be one of the nation's top all-around linebackers.

2nd Round (#53 overall)

Jordan Matthews WR Vanderbilt

http://www3.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Jordan+Matthews+Presbyterian+v+Vanderbilt+Sgw-qBgIlqGl.jpg

Big, physical receiver who also runs very good routes. Only lacks elite speed.

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1785887/jordan-matthews

STRENGTHS: Chiseled frame that was more impressive than higher-profile names also at the Senior Bowl. Size/speed combination along with his hand/eye coordination and body control makes him an attractive prospect, showing the ability to make plays at all levels of the field and do damage after the catch.

Balanced route-runner with a sizeable catching radius. Size allowed him to be moved inside and out in Vandy's offense, allowing the team to find him favorable matchups. Detailed and reliable route-runner. Very good hand-eye coordination to haul in tough passes, including one-handed catches.

WEAKNESSES: Good, but not great build-up speed and may lack an elite second gear to gain separation. Lean-muscled and needs to do more in contested situations.

3rd Round

We have a trade!. The Packers trade their 3rd round pick (#85 overall) and their 4th round pick (#121 overall) to the Buffalo Bills for the Bills 3rd round pick (#73 overall).

3rd Round (#73 overall)

Terrence Brooks FS Florida St.

http://www.newsherald.com/polopoly_fs/1.225888.1382994662!/fileImage/httpImage/image.jpg_gen/derivatives/landscape_445/fsu.jpg

Excellent cover Safety who has also played cornerback. Lacks only ideal size.

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1737623/terrence-brooks

STRENGTHS: While a touch shorter than scouts would prefer, Brooks looks the part of an NFL free safety, boasting broad shoulders, a well-built frame and trim waist. He possesses good balance, agility and straight-line speed, including an impressive burst to close.

A former cornerback who is asked to drop down and cover slot receivers, on occasion, demonstrating good balance, fluidity and change of direction for coverage. Brooks is more physical than you might expect given his cornerback background, often dropping down into a linebacker-like role for the Seminoles.

Long arms and good balance to play off blocks and make plays near the line of scrimmage amid traffic. A big-hitter who seems to enjoy the physicality of the game. Flashes strong hands for the interception, as well as the ability to track over his shoulder (North Carolina State). Good special teams player.

WEAKNESSES: Only has two seasons of starting action after spending his early career with the Seminoles in backup duty at cornerback. Below average height for the position, though his strength and leaping ability make him less of a liability in jump-ball situations than it might appear.

Highly aggressive defender who will lower his shoulder and fail to wrap up, leading to some missed tackles. Unreliable hands for the interception. Let several "easy" interceptions slip through his fingers in 2013.

COMPARES TO: Louis Delmas, Detroit Lions: Neither boasts the imposing size scouts would prefer but the instincts, athleticism and closing speed are there to overcome it.

3rd Round (#93 overall)

Dakota Dozier G/OT Furman

http://cdn.fansided.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/194/files/2012/09/Dakota-Dozier-vs.-Western-Carolina-20111.jpg

Played LT at Furman (Doesn't every O-Lineman that TT drafts?) but played Guard at The Shrine Game and did well. Could be a bit of a project, but lots of upside.

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1687575/dakota-dozier

STRENGTHS: Well-proportioned, athletic-looking, muscular frame. Exhibits light feet, a fluid kick-slide, and is a natural bender. Gets good arm extension to keep defenders out of his chest, and utilizes his lower half well to establish leverage on contact and absorb the power rush. Quick off the snap as a run blocker, and gets off the line and into the hole swiftly when asked to trap or pull. Shows good awareness on the move and does a good job of utilizing active hands to hold sequential defenders at bay and maintain course through contact. Can break down and change direction rapidly and exhibits impressive body control to maintain balance in tight spaces, particularly when firing through the line to the second level.

WEAKNESSES: Will over-extend off the snap, or simply set his feet too early in pass protection leaving him susceptible to being stood up and pushed back, or swatted to the side. Gets too far out and over his feet at times on the move, and will whiff or drop his head as a result. Appears to possess some natural power but it doesn't consistently show up on contact. Played mostly tackle at Furman but may need to move to guard due to lacking ideal length to play tackle at the next level.

3rd Round (#98 overall)

C.J. Fiedorowicz TE Iowa

http://media.pennlive.com/big-ten-football/photo/cj-fiedorowicz-0e74723b20a910f5.jpg

Huge Tight End who is a good blocker and has good speed for his size.

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1737104/cj-fiedorowicz

STRENGTHS: Good versatility, showing the ability to come off a down block to get past defenders as a receiver. Good body control and soft hands for such a large man, traits that have led Washington junior Austin Seferian-Jenkins to earn a lot of attention as a possible first-round pick. Fiedorowicz isn't as flashy as ASJ, but he's just as big and fast in a straight-line and is a much more physical and attentive blocker.

5th Round (#161 Overall)

Bennett Jackson CB Notre Dame

http://www.uhnd.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/bennett-jackson-draft.jpg

Solidly built CB who plays well against big WR's, a must in the NFCN.

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1749630/bennett-jackson

__________________________________________________ ______________________

5th round (#176 overall)

Ryan Carrethers DT Arkansas St.

http://www.titansonline.com/assets/images/imported/TEN/0224Carrethers275.jpg

Powerfully built DT who did 32 reps at the Combine.

6th Round (#197 overall)

Marqueston Huff DB Wyoming

http://wayback.silverchalice.co/ftp.campusinsiders.com/stats/img/201309212237814285561-p2.jpeg

Versatile player who played CB until moving to FS as a senior. Showed good cover skills at the Senior Bowl.
__________________________________________________ ______________________

6th Round (#198 overall)

Avery Williamson ILB Kentucky

http://grfx.cstv.com/schools/kty/blog/WilliamsonWKU_cw.jpg

Active player who stays on the field on passing downs.

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1785848/avery-williamson

7th Round (#236 overall)

Derrell Johnson OLB East Carolina

http://www.bonesville.net/images/ECUSID/Players/Football/Packages-Special-Misc-Art/Derrell%20Johnson.JPG

Good edge rusher who lacks cover skills.

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1785850/derrell-johnson

Hope I didn't forget anything!

not bad

like mosely, would be awesome if we could trade down and still get him like you have here

a wr in the 2nd or 3rd would be nice, the kid from vandy looks good

i don't like terrence brooks at all. he makes some nice plays, then he looks like he's half assing it until his next big play. in this mock. they way you have things going. i would take our second and our original 3rd or 4th and move up in the second to grab jimmy ward. same type build as brooks, but ward looks like he goes all out on every play

love the TE from iowa

the rest i don't know anything about, but agree that it would be nice to add an o-lineman and a d-lineman (a big d-lineman) somewhere in the middle rounds

i wouldn't mind looking for a super fast/quick smaller return guy in the later rounds

Nice draft, we both picked two of the same players in our mock draft. Not that it really matters but that picture of Marqueston Huff is not him, also I doubt he last til the 6 round but if it did happen he would be a steal for the Packers.

Solid Job Joe Mailman on the mock !!

Love the TE there

Agree...solid job on the mock. Don't see it happening though I'd be really happy with Mosley, Matthews, and Fiedorowicz. I'm torn on Brooks but I think S is eye of beholder this year.

smuggler - not bad, although I'd be stunned if TT took a G in R1, and pissed if Mosley was still on the board. I also think Fales will be gone by R7, but otherwise not bad.

I would be fascinated to see TT and BB negotiate. Would human hearing even be able to detect all of the information that gets passed back and forth?

I think it's 50/50 whether Mosley will be there at 29. But since I'm a Kool-Aid Drinker, I decided to go with it.:pack:

Which one of these safeties can play deep? I just want to keep how disappointed I will be straight when Ted drafts a LB at the top of the 2nd round.

Nice mock. But Wilfork just re-signed with the pats.

Yeah, but they till might want to draft his replacement. That contract only has 3 million guaranteed, so it could end up being a 1 year contract. Wilfork is coming off an achilles injury.

Terrence Brooks can play deep and cover but will never be a centerfielder because he doesnt play the ball well in the air and cannot catch.

The same thing could have been said (and probably was) about Nick Collins prior to 2008.

Nah, Collins knock wasnt that he displayed weak ball skills, it was stiff hips and playing weaker competition at Beth Cook. Brooks really doesnt need ball skills to be a good player though. I just think hell be doin it for another team since someone will overdraft him due to his footspeed and I seriously doubt itll be TT.

My point was that in Collins's first 3 years in the NFL, he has a total of 4 INT's, including 0 in 2007 before having 7 in 2008. He often had chances at INT's those first 3 years, but didn't catch the ball. Some guys improve in that area, and some don't.

You could be right about Brooks being drafted earlier than he should. It's not a great year for Free Safeties.

and collins took 2 or 3 years to develop

imo, we can't wait 2 or 3 years to get decent safety play

Actually, I would argue that Collins was decent in 2005-2007 before becoming a great player in 2008. The Collins of 2005-2007 would be a significant upgrade over M.D. Jennings. The Packers don't need a pro bowl safety in 2014 to bet better. Mere competence would be a significant upgrade.

i remember collins being ok his rookie year, and i can't remember if it was his second or third year when it finally seemed to "click"

and yes, i would agree that collins in any of his years would be better then any of the shit we have now

and collins was a special player, he was a second round pick from a school that no one even knew existed and a college division that most though was an adult weekend league. if he was from a bigger school, he would have been a first rounder

brooks is a high profile player from the national champions. everyone (experts) have been able to see every snap he's played, and they still deem him to be only the 4th to 8th best safety in this draft

i'll say the same thing about brooks as i say about bucannon, and boston, reynolds, bailey. they're good athletes, but they all need lots of refinement. some will beable to turn that raw talent into something and become good players, other won't

to me haha and pryor look like pretty sure things, the others all look like gambles that may or may not work out

I think Brooks...ou have about right....going around the 70 range....but....a lot of the guys we seem to like in certain rounds I think go before us.

For example......Jordan Mathews....that dude is LONG gone by our 2nd round pick
And the Iowa TE...I don't think he goes much past our round two pick....my get tells me he's got Hoody Genius written all over him

The more I think this through......I think we get Mosely in round one. Ebron doesn't get past Pittsburg...he may go sooner. The Bears either take a top CB or the safety from Alabama.....the Ravens take Prior.....

and Green Bay takes Mosley, a huge plotting slug, or they trade down if they can find a partner.

smuggler
03-28-2014, 09:12 PM
Someone will definitely be willing to trade up to take Mosley. If we made that trade I would not be shocked at all. Deep ass draft and more picks are definitely valuable this year.

03-28-2014, 09:41 PM
Remember when TT traded back and we were all hoping for defense and he picked Jorday Nelson in round two
...................................
I could see that happening with Mathews this year if our guys are off the board

Would PR go crazy if TT drafted a WR with his first pick ? :)

smuggler
03-28-2014, 10:45 PM
I wouldn't if he traded back to somewhere in the 2nd and picked up a 3rd and maybe another pick. Allen Robinson, Paul Richardson, and Jordan Matthews are all potential 2nd round WRs that could excel on our team.

run pMc
03-30-2014, 03:06 PM
Agree. I wouldn't reach for pitchfork and torch if TT traded down/out of R1. I'd be concerned about who he used those picks on. Trading 21 for a high R2 and getting one or two other (high R3 or a R4 and R7) isn't horrible. It gives more swings at the plate, so to speak, or more ammo for trading up later to get a specific guy who might be a perfect scheme fit.
