Seems like this guy just can't keep himself out of trouble. How much BS will Goodell put up with before the hammer falls BIG TIME?
This plus Bowman's knee injury takes quite a bit away from the 9ers D.

Can't imagine he has much time left in SF after this incident.

New on SI: 49ers DE Aldon Smith indicated that he had a bomb at Los Angeles International Airport http://nfl.si.com/2014/04/13/san-francisco-49ers-aldon-smith-bomb-los-angeles-international-airport/ …

How Not To Be Seen, Lesson One: Get angry at screeners and say something exceedingly stupid:

Los Angeles police public information officer Karla Ortiz said in a statement that the man identified as Smith went through security screening at Terminal 1, and was selected randomly for secondary screening. Smith reportedly became belligerent and uncooperative with the TSA agent in charge of the screening, and made a comment indicating that he was in possession of a bomb.

Selected in the first round of the 2011 draft, Smith has a fifth-year option on his rookie contract that the 49ers must decide to exercise or not by May 3. That option would pay him $9.75 million in 2015, :bang::bang::bang::bang::bang:

I get what Joe's saying - had this incident occurred a month later, even three weeks later, the Niners might've picked up the option and be all screwed.

At the same time, they might already have decided not to. Still and all, if they want to draft poor character risks, this is the chance you take. They probably will cut ties with the guy, and after this, if Goodell doesn't suspend the guy for a long stretch, then there's a real stench from his office (well, there is any way).

Looks like the golden luck of the Niners from two years ago all went up in smoke...

Are they gonna title the movie about this "Mr. Smith Goes to Leavenworth"? Or "Aldon is ALL DONE"?

I thought he was perhaps complimenting the TSA on their professionalism.

Player bomb hoaxes versus Owner drunk driving/prescription abuse. Going to be some interesting hearings in Goodell's office this summer.

Teams are expected to overcome and still dominate despite losing their best OLB pass rusher and best cover corner. Our defense simply sucks, I won't accept excuses for theirs. They are expected to still dominate despite losing 2 key players. If not, they suck.

He should have played the race card. Dropping a few N bombs would have been much safer than speaking of actual bombs.

I spent over an hour standing in the security line at LAX yesterday morning. That has to be the most inefficient airport in the country. Smith was probably just acting out what most of his fellow travelers were feeling.

At least there will be better signs at the next game versus the 49ers at Lambeau: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/04/14/aldon-smith-puts-jim-harbaughs-above-reproach-stance-to-the-test/

Police say Smith appeared to be drinking before the incident, which is of particular concern because Smith missed five games last year while spending time in a rehab facility following a DUI arrest.

does this put smith on the "no fly" list

and does that list apply to team charters?

Ouch, wow. Never even thought of that.

BTW went to Cuba last week - on the way back had a Bubba-mug with a Havana Special in it :whist: and a bottle of water in my carry-on when I went through security. Nothing bad happened :)
Who'd a thunk it?
