Pretty good group at the top with solid depth. The middle rounds are lacking flex TEs. More the inline type TEs. A few intriguing guys late plus Lyerla (major character issues that the Packers won't touch) and Larry Webster (college DE who is intriguing as a TE in the NFL).

My top 10:

1) Eric Ebron
2) Austin Seferian-Jenkins
3) Jace Amaro - I like the top three guys.
4) Troy Niklas - Tad overrated. Not as good as Kyle Rudolph.
5) C.J. Fiedorowicz - The next three are more inline TEs that aren't in vogue in the NFL anymore.
6) Arthur Lynch
7) Crockett Gilmore
8) Blake Annen - I like this kid as a sleeper.
9) Marcel Jensen - Another inline TE type.
10) Jake Murphy

Colt Lyerla is a first round talent who somebody will take a flyer on late. Webster will probably go in the middle rounds. I'd normally write A.C. Leonard and Reggie Jordan off as too short, but then guys like Tim Wright, Garrett Graham, and Jordan Reed have proven that you don't need to be 6'5" 260 to make a mark. Ted Bolser and to a lesser extent Alex Bayer are intriguing also. There is a group of plodders like Richard Rodgers, Xavier Grimble, and Rob Blanchflower who will go late.

Sure would be nice to have a stud TE that's not a flake.

RE: TE and a second or third priority need after Safety:

It's here and:

Austin Seferian-Jenkins or Jace Amaro @ Rd. 2 Pick #53 and BPA.

or C.J. Fiedorowicz in Rd. 3 Pick # 98 and BPA.

Then in Round four Pick #121 the need to pick @ TE grows.... through picks #161, #176, #197 and finally #236 and BPA.

Call me crazy, but I'm not crazy about drafting a TE this year. TE might be the position in mms offense that takes the longest to develop. I know the draft is a long term investment, but my hope is to be better right now. When I look at this draft, cj Mosley is the guy who seems most ready, right now, to make a difference on this team. Te just seems like a down the road pick.

Teams that may have as high or a higher priority need at ILB i.e. C.J. Mosley than the Green Bay Packers:

Tampa Bay Pick #7.

Chicago Pick #14.

Miami @ Pick #19 has a higher ILB priority than the Green Bay Packers.

Green Bay Picks at #21.

Philly Pick #22.

New Orleans Pick # 27

New England Pick #29

Denver Pick #31 has a higher ILB priority than the Green Bay Packers.

Washington at Rd. 2 - Pick #34 has a higher ILB priority than the Green Bay Packers.

I like the odds of our dl/OLB being better already. I like jones and Daniels. Both are stepping into their prime. Neal should be better at his position and Peppers is a nice new addition. We didn't lose much. Boyd and worthy have a shot too. We need our back end to be cleaned up. Safety would be ideal, but if you have an elite slot guy (heyward) and an elite pass defense ilb (Mosley) I think you get similar results. In our spot, I see Mosley as the guy who helps us most right now.

Heh - where did that come from, eh? If there's some genuine interest, I'm guessing the Packers would've preferred this stay out of the national news though.

6'9" and 260 and almost as many fouls as points (so probably not great hands), you have to think he projects to tackle, not TE. Sounds like he'll get some calls as a UDFA.

Having fouls has nothing to do with hands for a PF, means he was a bruiser and threw his body around. Also not having played any football EVER no way he could play on the line. You can cover up things with pure athletic ability playing TE or WR but not as a lineman.

What is clear though is Rodgers wants a big target, hopefully we find hin one in this draft.

What can you make of Colt Lyerla? Dude got busted snorting coke in his car! All kinds of other problems, kicked off team, had his driver's license suspended. Can't see anyone spending more than a 6th or 7th on him, and then he'll be on a short leash. Of course, Tyrann Mathieu ended up going in the third, so who knows?

Don't know much about basketball, just that you foul out after five, so he was scoring less than 10pts/game. Obviously not his job to put the ball in the air, but figured if he had good hands he would've gotten involved a little more.

Yea because smoking weed and snorting coke are the samething haha. From what I read dude has been getting a lot of comparisons to Aaron Herndenez. With that being said dude has game and I wouldn't be mad if we spent a 4th on him. Small city of Green Bay might just be what this kid needs.

I know there's a world of difference - had the conversation with my kids just recently, except about meth. Re: honey badger, I was speaking for in generalizations - good college career in works, kicked off team, drug charges, shows up at combine and lights it up. What do you do with that?

One thing about the cocaine though - and this might just be my ignorance - to me it implies money. Where did that come from? The report said he was snorting, so it wasn't crack.

You don't need a ton of money to do coke. You need a ton of money to do tons of coke.

Fair enough. Met a guy while on vacation recently who said coke is a great way to get rid of stuff. Don't like you car? Do some coke, it will go away. Don't like you house, wife, kids? No problem, coke will make all that go away too :)

You can have good hands in basketball, but it doesn't equate to being a good shooter. Tons or role players on college teams that don't score.

Other than Ebron, Lyerla is the only other guy that can really stretch the seam - but what a mental midget that guy is.

Lover Lyerla's talent, but I wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole... he's every bit as dumb and dysfunctional as Hernandez is.

Fiedorowicz can be a nice player I think... Annen might have upside.

Not a good TE crop this year.

If we are not sold on a TE this year, what would you say to getting someone like this as a college free agent? Justin Smith, WR/TE, East Carolina. 6'8 275lbs...37" vertical. Academically ineligible last year. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/writer/jason-la-canfora/24545872/nfl-draft-seven-sleepers-who-will-go-higher-than-projected

Packers traits: The Packers generally bring in TEs who have solid speed (4.76 or less in the 40), solid agility (7.29 or less in 3 cone), and solid explosion (a combination of vertical and broad jump). I've created a formula for determing SAA (speed, acceleration, and agility) based on 40 time, shuttle, and 3 cone and Explosion (vertical and broad jump). ESPN created something called SPARQ that measures this, but it's no longer open to the public. I created my own formula, but I'm sure it's not nearly as accurate as SPARQ. Ironically, the only TE that didn't fit the solid explosion trait is Jermichael Finley, but I chalk that up to a bad testing day because I think he displayed those traits in his tape. The TEs generally are 6'3" 245 and above. Thompson went outside this to draft D.J. Williams, but that didn't work out. This is where I should note that Thompson does appear to take a prospect's measurables into considerable consideration--especially at certain positions. Or has at least a minimum standard at several positions in specific measurables.

The TEs in this draft who fit those criteria are:
Eric Ebron, Austin Seferian-Jenkins, C.J. Fiedorowicz, Larry Webster (if Thompson projects him to TE), Blake Annen, Colt Lyerla (who Thompson likely won't touch because of character issues). Jace Amaro (just missing in 3 cone), Jake Murphy (just missing in 40), Ted Bolser (just missing in explosion), and Reggie Jordan (tad short at 6'3" 240) come close.
