No one had started one up yet as far as I can tell so WTF. I've got a couple minutes. We're 4 days away so not much time to assign picks to people so it's a FFA this year. Lets just start with saying trades are off the table.

Scene: Radio City Music Hall
:Godell takes the podium amidst the normal amount of booing for the incredible job he's been doing:

With the first overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft, the Huston Texans select - Jadaveon Clowney, defensive end, South Carolina.

The St Louis Rams are on the clock...

Jacksonville selects LB Khalil Mack.

IMO Jax has the best seat in the house. Top 3 prospects are all great, they just have to sit in this spot and see who falls to them. I also think they are the most likely to get good offers when other teams see who is left at this point. I think the #11 pick is also coveted, that first slot below the line in the sand that drops the salary of the 5th year option significantly.

No. 4 Cleveland selects QB Johnny "Football" Manziel Texas A&M

And the world rolls their eyes and chuckles into their hands.

McKenzie figures everybody else must've blinked and missed something, sprints to the podium and selects Greg Robinson, OT, Auburn.

Guiness your on Packerrats early, (5:50 EST).

If no one else wants to make a pick why not you do so ....say in the next 30 minutes or so.

Be aware that at this time we have "only 13 members " eligible to cast a ballot.

Personally ... I'm wary of anything NO. 13.

Good morning Woodbuck! To be honest, I don't follow the build-up to the draft enough to make a decent pick. I more enjoy waiting until it is done, then studying the players and where they actually went in the draft. I don't even consider much about who I would like the Packers to draft. I just enjoy studying the guys they actually do get.

Hi B.:

Carson Palmer is doing very well in Arizona and do you select a QB in Round One to sit on the bench when you want your team to take a step forward? I say no ! So the Arizona Cardinals are not likely to go to QB and pick No. 20.

Arizona has priority needs at pass rush and lots will be available there, WR and FS.

I've been reading stuff by Arizona fans as well and it's hard to say which direction the team may go in in Round One. I say pass rush or WR and BPA.

Their not exactly pleased with their TE situation and that may bring Jace Amaro - Texas Tech or Austin Seferian-Jenkins - Washington into play.

The Card's might even go CB and say an eligible mid first Rd. candidate in CB Bradley Roby, Ohio State.

Pass Rush: Monster DE Stephon Tuitt - Notre Dame or DE's Demarcus Lawrence - Boise St. .

In reality it may very well be the case that Ryan Shazier (and a solid grade for him by a team drafting ahead of us) is off the board by the time TT and the Green Bay Packers are on the clock for Pick NO. 21.

If I was to bet I'd lean on that LBer Ryan Shazier is gone by the Packers NO. 21 pick.

I wonder what TT would do if Hasean "Ha Ha" Clinton Dix falls all the way to us? Looking at his grade at 5.9 and the latest mocks he sure looks like a strong prospect to be there for TT to consider. I'm not all that high on him and have liked Calvin Pryor better for months.

I hope that at least two QB's come off the Draft Board before we have to decide on our first round pick. If that doesn't happen the chances of TT trading down is advanced and as prospects with grades above 6.0 come off the board.

Incidently there are 28 prospects with a Grade of 6.0 or higher.

Excluding QB's there are 21 prospects with a Grade of 6.1 or higher.

Isn't a Center now but would help if Lang has to move inside. Unlikely move by Ted as its a Guard, but if the draft falls this way and he can't bail out, take the best player.

CBS has him ranked at 28 and above him the players left in this scenario are CBs and D lineman. I don't see Ted going in that direction unless something special falls. Possibly a CB, though he has yet to do it.

Yup.

LB Ryan Shazier's Grade (6.3) makes him the obvious choice as this thread played out.

In reality:

I'd be delighted to get him or and again it won't happen...WR Brandin Cooks...his size and grade a wee bit low for TT's pick at NO. 21. Ahh wait:

TT's doing his own grading.

Ryan Shaizer obviously, anyone selecting an offensive player needs to be slapped in the face.

It depends on whether someone great falls to 21. TT has taken a lot of top defensive picks the past two years. If you can get a game changer you gotta take 'em. I don't see TT standing pat with the first two picks. I bet he moves up that #2 or trades down from #1 (or both) to capture two very good players, one defense, one offense, in the first two rounds.

you don't (generally) draft for this year, you draft for 1-2 years from now. Maybe you're lucky (Lacy) to get one great starter as a rookie and then maybe unlucky (Bahktiari, Hyde) to get more than one decent starter due to injury. A lot of Rookies (D. Jones) aren't quite ready to play.

Apples and oranges....I haven't heard Nelson or Cobb flirting with retirement as of late. Also don't remember anyone ever discussing Cooks being the #1 overall pick. I for one loved the pick at the time because Farve was 35 years old so it made common sense for us to start looking for a replacement. Where is the common sense in taking a WR with our 1st pick in a draft loaded with WR when we have a GM whos a stud at finding talent at WR in the later rounds.

I understand that but do you think Hawk, Brad Jones, or any of the pieces of shit we have at safety are going to be better then Nelson and Cobb in 1-2 years from now? If so by all means go ahead and take a WR with the 1st pick. Rookie LBs can actually make impact their first season, out of the last 14 years the defensive rookie of the year has been a LB 11 times.

They might be able to get a good safety in the third; I really don't see a guy like Collins in the first, and it seems that's the guy they need. I think Richardson, Hyde, Hayward and Burnett can all play in the SS role if needed, but not so much at FS (although I'm certain the coaches like Burnett there). I like Shazier only because he may have the speed to fill up that dead zone between the line and the safeties in coverage of TEs and RBs. He will not be an every down LB. But, like I say, they may nab him and may be able to trade down to do it, then trade up again to get a WR they like near the top third of the 2nd.

I pretty much agree with you that the game changer WR or TE (Ebron) won't be there at 21. But if somehow he is, take him.

I pray we take a safety within the first two rounds and still hoping Pryor somehow drops to us, he would be my first choice then Shazier. In a perfect world we would take Pryor at #21 and then make a trade with the Pats trading our 2nd round and both 3rd round picks for their 1st and a 4th round pick then taking Shazier with that pick. Hey it could happen, last two times we traded with the Pats in the draft we ended up with Greg Jennings and Clay Matthews. :-) With this draft being so deep though I'm not sure if that would be our best move but I sure would like our defense.

Would finally give Capers some play makers to work since the Super Bowl adding Peppers, Pryor and Shazier to last years defense....Kap is not out running this group.

Why do you compare him to Kuechly? He doesn't project to ILB at all, does he? I thought he was seen only as an OLB. Kuechly is pretty long and lean for an ILB though.

His unofficial 40 time is startling. If it's being taken seriously it vaults him up the draft boards to be sure. I think it would've make him the fastest LB by a pretty good margin, Mack ran a 4.59.

It couldn't happen quite that way. The Packers only have 1 third round pick to trade. The comp pick can't be traded. The best they could offer is their 2nd (#53), 3rd (#85) and 4th (#121). It might take more than that to get back into the 1st,

True, I forgot you can't trade comp picks, I was just using the Clay trade as an example. Being that the Clay trade was the 21st pick and this year they have the 29th pick trading I doubt we would have to give up as much, your offer makes more sense but we would get a 5th or 6th round pick back in return instead of a 4th.

Shazier wouldn't play OLB for us, hes projected to play OLB in a 4-3 and ILB in a 3-4. He was comparing him to Kueckly because they have similar weight at their combines. I've also heard some comparisons to Navorro Bowman who played OLB at Penn St before moving inside in the SF's 3-4 defense. Who knows if he'll be close to either one of those players but I like his game and I think hes only going to get better.

Matthews was #26. To get him they gave up #41, #73 & #83 (from the Jets for Favre) and I think got a 5th back.
This year, having, at best #53, #85 and #121 doesn't get them back into the 1st round at all, I don't think.

That extra third for Favre was the key for pulling off that trade.

Good comment. That worries me too. But still, it would be nice to have a ILB who could stay with RBs and TEs. I hear the NFL is going to make the 'forward pass' a bigger part of the game and it might be important to have an ILB who can defend the pass.

Within 10lbs, and 2" shorter so pretty similar stoutness. Mosley is 6'2", and most of the other ILB prospects seem to be around that height. I always think of ILBs as generally being a bit shorter, but I guess not.

I agree, he looks like he could survive. But that is not how he plays. I know nothing about his scheme at Ohio State, so that could explain some of it.

The other question is this: will he, like Jones does, have to develop the ability to diagnose running plays from inside? Jones reacts slow to run plays developing and then can take some bad gaps. Shazier was not strictly a ILB at OSU, what kind of learning curve will he have?

Maybe TT keeps banging on the same door and your pick of NT Louis Nix III is realistic in terms of his very possible availability at Pick NO. 21.

There is this:

His grade is 5.9 and according to my analysis and TT and BPA. If that's compatible with TT's grade for Nix and all other things in terms of prospects are equal. That grade of 5.9 eliminates Louis Nix III from consideration at Pick NO. 21.

Now last year TT worked out a trade down with of all teams the San Fran 49ers and maybe the same thing works out this season as the 49ers position better for a WR and TT trades down to the San Fran NO. 30 and gains a pick.

If he does this will he have a shot at Louis Nix III?

My analysis says that's a weak chance.

Dunno that it's as simple as some pie in the sky grade (assigned by who? NFL.com? Mel Kipper?). As someone else pointed out, Rodgers was a rather unique case - a player talked about as a potential #1 overall sitting there 20 picks later. TT took that bait again a few years later with Brohm a few years later. The Jets did it last year with Smith, although I'm not sure he was ever seriously considered a candidate for #1 overall.

A much cheaper version of Desean Jackson with a much better brain

Cooks is different than Jackson. Height is similar, but weight is not. Cooks is a legit WR, not a gimmick. Steve Smith is the best comparison, and I dont know how much Ive talked about it here, but Smith has been one of my favorite players in the league. I love his game. Needless to say, I love Cooks game. I think he'll be a hell of a player for a long time. He does it all, plays bigger than he is, significantly.

TT got one right and that was his pick of the falling Aaron Rodgers.

What would TT's legacy be without Aaron Rodgers as his teams QB!?

It will be intersting, but I like Beckham slightly more. The main reason is that I'm convinced Beckham will be better as an outside receiver than Cooks. Cooks will be better in the slot.

Measurables are pretty similar.

Beckham = 5'11" 198, 4.43 40, 3.94 shuttle, 6.69 3 cone, 38.5" vertical, 122" broad jump
Cooks = 5'10" 189, 4.33 40, 3.81 shuttle, 6.76 3 cone, 36" vertical, 120" broad jump

Both are good route runners. Both are good after the catch. Similar hands. I think Beckham has slightly better ball skills.

Not a hockey fan but I will be rooting for Montreal for obvious reasons.

I apologize as this post isn't football related. I'm trying to cover the Montreal Canadiens Vs Boston Bruins series in Romper Room.

Really Brandon494 and.... if you tune into this series with some real focus. You might become more of a hockey fan.

I wasn't paying a lot of attention to the NBA this season until the Toronto Raptors came into their own. now I'm sucked into the raptor hype. Withal this racial prejudice on behalf of bruin fans I've even dropped the Boston Celtics as a very long term fan of that team.

I can't stand such stupid ignorance as the Bruin fans insist upon in this day and times. this isn't just a few fans. it's way too many of the Bruin fan base that are so fucking stupid. Those are the same fans that support my team since the 1950's the Boston Celtics. As a result I made a sound decision and the Boston Celtics are gone from my life. Surprizingly for me this decision was easy.

With that aside:

This series is turning out to be enormous in terms of the Canadiens Vs Bruins long term "original six" rivalry.

I truly love what I see in this series in terms of energy and excitement.

The Red ,White and Blue...Les Habitants (The Montreal Canadiens) came up huge and scored a 4-2 win at the very turned out and on Bell Center last evening. The center of attention PK Subban was enormous for the Montreal Canadiens leading his team with a goal and an assist and simply flying all over the ice.. I love the way PK Subban acts and plays the game. This young man is becoming stronger inspite of all adversity.

PK Subban was awarded the first Star for his outstanding effort in game three. He now has six points in the series and has to be very cautious that the Bruins don't target him with more aggressive play. This series should go seven games and I gurantee all that watch it...excitement.

I think the RB is a good value there. Considered Tuit on D.

I think Hyde also fills a need. Mathews is never going to play 16 games. Brown is 32(!!!). Woodhead is ok in his new role as an 'air back' but played over his head last year and won't likely duplicate the season. The Chargers are pretty thin at RB.

Brandon494

I agree Brown is pretty much done but Matthews and Woodhead was a good 1-2 punch for them last season with Matthews playing all 16 games. They were 13th in rushing last season but 29th in pass defense. CB is their #1 need and I don't see them going RB when you go look at who they currently have starting at CB. I honestly believe we won't see a RB taken in the 1st round.

Quite possible we could see that for the second year in a row. He's highly rated, but I honestly don't know that I've seen him going in the first round. Hard to believe the RB position is so devalued as to fall out of the first round entirely!

Shazier is linebacker made for today's NFL. He has 4.38 speed at 237 pounds and can play inside in the base and all over the place in sub-packages. He'll be an immediate playmaker.

This guy is usually on the money when it comes to the draft. I'll be very happy with either one of those guys if the draft fell that way.

Mike Mayock is a very solid Draft analyst. Arguably the NFL and College prospect "Ultimate" Guru.

Mike Mayock may be wrong in terms of Hasean "Ha Ha" Clinton Dix as he's the top ranked FS and about a dozen NFL teams have a definite need at Safety.

DT Aaron Donald and falling to the Packers pick #21?

I see DT Aaron Donald wearing the colors of the Giants (Pick #12) or the Bears (Pick #14). After that he's going to be a likely BPA candidate and especially attractive to Dallas and Arizona.

Johnny Manziel...is an interesting 2014 Draft watch for me....but not "LIVE".

I'll have to tape this draft as I'm going to give first viewing priorityto the Bruins @ Canadians series fourth game at the Bell Center. There will be some excitement.

Dallas has clearly commented on Johnny Manziel and sources said that the organization would love to see him on the board when it was time for the Dallas Cowboys to pick so they could reject him as an option.

It seems that the Dallas Cowboys are either "doing a snow job" or not liking Johnny Manziel a whole bunch as their franchise QB.

Manziel factor won’t alter Cowboys’ draft plan

Posted Tuesday, May. 06, 2014

" ...to let Jones tell it, the chances of the Cowboys drafting Manziel are about as slim as Jimmy Johnson returning as coach." Fr.

I read other stuff this week and last that told me that Johnny Manziel won't be drafted by Dallas if he falls to them.

Now ....what I'd love to see is Johnny Football drop to the Boys so we can get another look at Jerry Jones "two faces". I see little future and Dallas as a Super Bowl contender and Dallas with 34 year old QB Tony Romo.

Guinness suggested I pick for Carolina, and I can't turn down an excellent Stout, so here we go.

My entirely uninformed opinion and "analysis" - looks like they are light at tackle, with undrafted 3rd year UCLA alum Nate Chandler currently slotted as starting LT. I'd never heard of him before, so clearly he should be upgraded, and somebody needs to watch Cam Newton's back.

The pick is in - Morgan Moses, OT, Virginia

From walterfootball.com:

Height: 6-6. Weight: 314.
40 Time: 5.35.
Projected Round (2014): 1-2.
5/7/14: The top four offensive tackles are expected to go in the top 20 picks, so Moses has a shot at going to a tackle-needy team picking in the final 12 selections of the first round. WalterFootball.com spoke with teams picking early in the second round, and they don't believe that Moses will make it to Friday night.

Moses did not impress in his Combine workout, but that isn't the environment to illustrate what he does well. Moses had a good week at the Senior Bowl. He could use some work on his body to drop some flab and improve his strength, but he did well in the one-on-ones and showed his pass-protection potential.

Moses didn't play against BYU to start 2013, but he came back for Week 2 against Oregon. Moses stayed in the lineup after that to put together a quality senior season. Late in the year, he had an impressive performance against Miami.

8/9/13: Moses was the starter at right tackle on the other side from Oday Aboushi over the past two years. Moses was a solid player and capable run-blocker. He will need to improve his overall game and his pass protection, especially. Moses could stay at right tackle or move inside to guard in the NFL.

Personal: Son of Marion and Morris Moses.

This is the second time someone has brought up a poster's game - it needs to happen! I've got my sights set on the Packers in Buffalo, but will change in a heartbeat.

We're getting sent down to the minors.

It was a tough year. McGinn only got 1,5,6,19 and 25 right. McGinn got the JuWaun James to Miami pick right, which seemed a shocker. He must have had a good source in Miami for that one. Philbin I suppose.

I like Ja'Wuan James. I had him ranked higher than Cyrus Kouandjio on my board--which went against most experts. I'd like to point out that I didn't read McGinn's mock draft. I didn't want to waste one of my 20 articles/month on a silly mock draft.
