http://www.draftinsider.net/reports/2014/WR/Brandin-Cooks

Brandin Cooks
School: Oregon State
Position: WR
Positive: Two-year starter named to numerous all-America teams last season after career-best receiving totals of 128 catches, 1730 yards, and 16 TDs. Also averaged 6 yards on 12 punt returns. Sophomore totals included 67 receptions, 1151 yards, and 5 TDs. Dynamic, home-run-hitting receiver with a polished game. Plays with outstanding balance, body control and makes receptions everywhere. Has a burst that he turns on in a single step and runs scissor-sharp routes. Quickly gets into breaks, stays low on exit, and comes back to the ball to make himself an available target. Outstanding run after-the-catch skill, finds ways to create yardage, and has opponents playing back on their heels. Gets up and contorts to pull the ball from the air. Possesses soft and strong hands and consistently comes away with the difficult reception. Terrific eye-hand coordination, plays tough football, and fights to make catches. Devastating running reverses and displays return skills.

Negative: Lacks bulk and struggles in battles. Will have difficulty handling jams at the next level. Ineffective blocking downfield.

Analysis: Cooks is a polished receiver who consistently comes away with catches in underneath coverage, and at the same time has the ability to stretch the field. He's a threat to score whenever the ball's in his hands and though Cooks lacks classic size, he possesses all the necessary skills to start in the NFL.

http://www.draftinsider.net/reports/2014/S/Hasean-Clinton-Dix

Hasean Clinton-Dix
School: Alabama
Position: S
Positive: Two-year starter who finished with 52 tackles, 2 INTs, and 4 PBUs last season after 37 tackles and 5 interceptions as a sophomore. Relatively athletic safety with a complete game. Displays solid sideline-to-sideline range with the ability to get outside the numbers in coverage. Works well with cornerbacks, has a nice move to the throw, and plays physical football. Explosive at the point, drives his shoulders through runners, and plays with quickness. Takes good angles to the action, wraps up when tackling, and also displays good hands for interceptions.

Negative: Must improve his backpedal and be more consistent moving in reverse. At times hesitant and slow to react. Not an intimidator in centerfield.

Analysis: Clinton-Dix was an effective two-year starter at Alabama and comes with upside but is still rough around the edges and needs work completing his game. He also comes with a bit of downside risk as he does not always play with a sense of urgency but if he hits on all cylinders Clinton-Dix will start for a long time at the next level.

The Browns have selected Johnny Manziel. The wait is over

Joemailman
05-08-2014, 09:43 PM
http://www.draftinsider.net/reports/2014/QB/Johnny-Manziel

ohnny Manziel
School: Texas A&M
Position: QB
Positive: Two-year starter who, in 2012, became the first freshman to win the Heisman Trophy. Passing totals last year included a completion rate of 69.9%, 4114 yards, 37 TDs, and 13 INTs. Also added 759 yards rushing and 9 more scores. Freshman totals included 3706 yards passing, 26 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions. Also added 21 rushing touchdowns that season. Electrifying college quarterback with questionable next-level skills. Intuitive. Displays a great feel for what's happening on the field and outstanding pocket presence. Senses the rush, easily eludes multiple defenders, and creates yardage. Patient in the pocket, displays outstanding vision, and keeps his eyes down the field looking for an open wipeout. Displays a great sense of knowing where his receivers are, spreads the ball around, and uses all his targets. Gets outside the numbers to give himself a better view of the field or buy time for pass catchers. To his credit, will not force the ball into covered targets, rather reloads to find another pass catcher. Quickly locates the open receiver. Displays a sixth sense and was a natural in college.

Negative: Plays with reckless abandon, which may be to his detriment in the NFL. Holds the ball too long in the pocket. Lacks great arm strength, struggles getting the ball downfield. and cannot zip the outs. Passes tend to float. Takes too many chances and puts his receivers in precarious positions. Gambles and makes questionable decisions trying to improvise at times. Changes his release point.

Analysis: Manziel was a highly decorated quarterback in college, looking like a magician the way he created yardage. He lacks size and the arm strength for the NFL and many of the elements which made him great on the college field could be to his detriment at the next level. Manziel is a risky prospect who comes with no guarantees and in the end he'll be overdrafted.

Explosive, athletic prospect who displays outstanding pass-rushing ability off the edge. Fast in every direction, forceful up the field, and a classic edge rusher. Easily changes momentum without losing momentum, can bend off the edge, and breaks down well. Quick moving in every area of the field, fires off the snap with a terrific first step, and very sudden. Shows skill out of a three-point stance as well as standing up over tackle.

Negative: Lacks bulk, strength, and cannot get off blocks once engaged at the point of attack. Can be a liability as a run defender. Took a lot of wide angles around college tackles he was able to exploit.

Analysis: Ford is a pass-rushing prospect who did well in 2013 then even better during the Senior Bowl. He's a bit one-dimensional, primarily making plays as a wide-angle edge rusher and has struggled with injuries almost every year at Auburn. Seemingly on everybody's list as a potential first-round choice, Ford is not as good as advertised and may be more of a situational defender rather than an every-down lineman.

http://www.draftinsider.net/reports/2014/CB/Darqueze-Dennard

Darqueze Dennard
School: Michigan State
Position: CB
Positive: Three-year starter awarded All-America honors as a senior after posting career totals of 62 tackles, 4 INTs, and 10 PBUs. Instinctive cornerback who consistently shuts down opponents. Quick backpedaling, smooth flipping his hips, and does a great job immediately reacting to plays. Locates the pass in the air, has a decisive move to the throw, and shows good hands for interceptions. Mixes it up with opponents throughout the action, has a burst to the ball out of his plant, and plays heads-up football. Feisty, works to get off blocks, and makes his way up the field to defend the run or screen passes. Shows quickness and explosion.

Negative: Deep speed is a concern and struggles staying step for step downfield with opponents. Average skill in zone coverage.

Analysis: Dennard was a productive cornerback at Michigan State and showed a developing game the past three years. He comes with terrific ball skills, mental intangibles, and plays a tough brand of football. Dennard can be used in bump-and-run coverage or backed off the line of scrimmage, but struggles covering the deep pass and must be protected.

http://www.draftinsider.net/reports/2014/CB/Jason-Verrett

Jason Verrett
School: TCU
Position: CB
Positive: Junior-college transfer who started three seasons at TCU, winning either all-America or all-conference honors each season. Posted 39 tackles, 2 INTs, and 14 PBUs as a senior. Junior totals included 63 tackles, 6 INTs, and 16 PBUs. Skilled cornerback with marginal size for the next level. Shows terrific awareness, recognizes routes in zone coverage, and works well with teammates. Fluid and quick flipping his hips to transition with opponents, displays great instincts, and has a burst to the action. Consistently positions himself to defend the throw and stays step for step with receivers everywhere. Both quick and fast, possesses a sense of timing, and climbs over opponents to knock away passes. Works to keep the action in front of him, fights hard to defend the throw, and wraps up when tackling.

Negative: Not a big-bodied cornerback, physically beaten out by opponents, and outpositioned by average-sized receivers. Occasionally bites on receiver moves.

Analysis: From a football perspective Verrett is the most complete cornerback in this year's draft offering the speed, ball skills, and instincts necessary to start at the next level. His lack of height makes him scheme specific and will turn a few teams away. In the proper system, Verrett will surely have a productive career at the next level.

http://www.draftinsider.net/reports/2014/OLB/Marcus-Smith

Marcus Smith
School: Louisville
Position: OLB
Positive: Two-year starting defensive end who projects to linebacker at the next level. Solid pass rusher who's menaced opponents throughout his career. Quick off the snap, fast off the edge, and immediately alters his angle of attack to pursue the action. Plays athletic football, has a closing burst of speed, and relatively instinctive. Gets leverage on opponents, shows skill in space, and wraps up tackling. Remains disciplined with assignments and quick to locate the ball.

Negative: Inefficient and does not always take proper angles to the action. Mostly a first-step lineman on the collegiate level who struggled getting off blocks. Must prove he can make plays moving in reverse.

Analysis: Smith was a productive defensive end at Louisville and to his credit showed consistent improvement. He's a natural pass rusher out of a three-point stance or standing up over tackle and in time should develop into a productive 3-4 outside linebacker.

Deone Bucannon
School: Washington State
Position: S
Positive: Four-year starter who led Washington State with 114 tackles and 6 INTs last season. Junior totals included a team-high 106 tackles. Well-sized, aggressive safety with a complete game. Plays heads-up football, stays with cover assignments, and possesses solid ball skills. Shows a great burst out of his plant, quick to close, and takes good angles to plays. Fluid backpedaling, instinctively tracks the pass in the air, and possesses good hands for interceptions. Quick up the field defending the run and constantly around the action. Effective special-teams player who stands out on coverage units.

Negative: Lacks long speed and possesses more of a short burst. Average range and isn't quick getting out to the sidelines. Struggles in man-coverage situations.

Analysis: Buchanan was a solid safety prospect who can cover the run, defend the pass, and play on special teams. He lacks great timed speed and may not be starting potential but has the ability to line up in several secondary packages.

http://walterfootball.com/draft2014rumorsteams_1.php

1/24: The Packers are interested in Stanford outside linebacker Trent Murphy. Green Bay has some edge rushers in Clay Matthews and Nick Perry, but both players have dealt with injuries. Murphy (6-5, 252) fits the mold as an edge rusher in their defense as he led the nation with 15 sacks last season. If Murphy falls to their second-round pick, that would be ideal for Green Bay.

Trent Murphy, DE/OLB, Stanford
Height: 6-5. Weight: 250.
40 Time: 4.86.
Projected Round (2014): 2-3.
5/5/14: Murphy has a well-rounded skill set as he is a good pass-rusher with quickness and strength. Murphy defends the run well and has good instincts. He also has the athletic ability to drop into pass coverage. Murphy looks like a great fit as a 3-4 OLB in the NFL. He would be drafted higher if he was faster and had more explosion off the snap.

Murphy had a mixed performance at the Senior Bowl and wasn't good enough to help his first-round prospects. At the Combine, Murphy confirmed that he is a second-day pick and not a first-rounder.

In 2013, Murphy totaled 15 sacks, 24.5 tackles for a loss, 62 tackles, six passes batted, one forced fumble and an interception returned 30 yards for a touchdown. He led the nation in sacks.

Murphy recorded two sacks of San Jose State quarterback David Fales in the 2013 season opener. Murphy had an interception returned for a 30-yard touchdown against Washington State. Versus Washington, he had two sacks and deflected a pass that was intercepted near the end zone late in the fourth quarter to protect Stanford's narrow win over the Huskies.

Murphy played well against Oregon and was an animal against Oregon State, totaling eight tackles, 2.5 sacks, two batted passes and 4.5 tackles for a loss. He came close to a number of other sacks and was living in the backfield all night. Murphy was held in check by Notre Dame left tackle Zack Martin, and totaled just two tackles and .5 tackles for a loss. While Stanford fell in a road upset to USC, Murphy was phenomenal for the Cardinal. He had eight tackles with four tackles for a loss and two sacks. Murphy had a quality game against Michigan State in the Rose Bowl.

8/12/13: Murphy was perhaps the best player on Stanford's tough defense in 2012. That is saying something with other good prospects like Ben Gardner, Henry Anderson, Ed Reynolds, Chase Thomas and Shayne Skov all being legitimate pro prospects.

Murphy is a physical force who beats linemen with power and technique. He also has speed to get by as an edge-rusher. Murphy totaled 56 tackles with 10 sacks, 18 tackles for a loss, four passes broken up, one interception and a forced fumble last season. He racked up 40 tackles with 10 tackles for a loss and 6.5 sacks in 2011.

Murphy is a versatile player who has lined up in a variety of spots in Stanford's 3-4 defense.

Personal: Majoring in science, technology and society.

http://www.draftinsider.net/reports/2014/WR/Kelvin-Benjamin

Kelvin Benjamin
School: Florida State
Position: WR
Positive: Sophomore totals included 54 receptions, 1011 receiving yards, and a conference- leading 15 TDs. Totaled 30 receptions, 495 yards, and 4 TDs as a redshirt freshman. Game-controlling receiver just scratching the surface of his ability. Defeats jams and separates from opponents, high points the ball over defenders, and consistently grabs the pass from the air. Plays like a big-bodied receiver. Possesses soft and strong hands and catches the ball away from his frame. Adjusts to errant throws and easily contorts in midair to make the catch.
Negative: Lacks quickness and top-end speed. Will struggle to separate at the next level. Poor route runner and displays limited quickness into breaks. Average run after the catch skill.
Analysis: Benjamin is a big-bodied receiver who plays to his size and wins out in battles. Able to exploit defenders on the college level, he's still rough around the edges and a prospect who may need time before he's NFL ready.

One Team: Kelvin Benjamin is a Mid-Round Prospect
Updated May 5, 2014
By Charlie Campbell - @draftcampbell

Opinions are split on Florida State wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin. Many acknowledge that the 6-foot-5, 240-pounder is a boom-or-bust prospect and his panning out in the NFL will depend greatly on the team he lands with. Some have dubbed him a late first-round pick, while others believe he'll be chosen in the second round. However, we've heard from a team that has graded Benjamin as a mid-round pick.

The team that has graded Benjamin as a mid-rounder said they don't like him at all as a player. They feel that he won't be able to get separation, and they basically think he can't run. That team said they view Benjamin as another Mike Williams. The former USC receiver was the 10th-overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft to Detroit, and he turned into a huge bust because of a lack of speed. That team believes Benjamin won't be able to get himself open against NFL cornerbacks.

That team feels that there are four true first-round receivers in Sammy Watkins, Mike Evans, Odell Beckham Jr. and Brandin Cooks. They have Marqise Lee on the bubble of the first round and rate Jarvis Landry as a solid second-rounder. This team could draft a receiver early, but they don't see Benjamin as being worthy of a pick in the first two rounds at the very least.

Benjamin has off-the-field concerns regarding maturity as well, and some teams are wary of bringing him into their locker room. Sources from different teams other than the one above feel that where Benjamin lands in the NFL will determine if he is a boom or a bust. If he goes to a weak environment without good leadership from veteran teammates, his wide receivers coach, offensive coordinator and head coach, he could end up out of the league before long. Conversely, if he goes to a strong organization with veterans and coaches who teach him how to be a pro, he could turn a productive player. One team that was cited as being a good fit for Benjamin was New Orleans. The Ravens have also shown a lot of interest in him.

I thought he would fall to 2

He was right

God love 'em... they can have him - that guy is gonna be a bust - are at least struggle, struggle, struggle.

He'll make a couple of highlight film jump ball catches, but that guy can't run routes - at all... was just terrible on tape.

Has a lot of physical ability, but wow that guy is super raw as a receiver.

IMO, a terrible pick in the 1st round...

http://www.draftinsider.net/reports/2014/DT/Dominique-Easley

Dominique Easley
School: Florida
Position: DT
Positive: Three-year starter who posted 5 tackles and 2 tackles for loss as a senior before suffering a season-ending ACL injury three games into the campaign. Junior totals included 26 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, and 4 sacks. Explosive interior lineman with potential at a number of spots up front. Fires off the ball, effectively uses his hands to protect himself, and plays with outstanding pad level. Keeps his feet moving, shows incredible explosion, and bursts through the open gaps of the offensive line to make plays into the backfield. Displays a variety of moves protecting himself or shedding blocks, jolts opponents with great hand punch, and competitive. Gets off the ground to make plays, quick moving in every direction of the field and shows ability in pursuit.
Negative: Lacks great bulk and controlled by a single opponent. Does not sustain his speed.
Analysis: Easley was watching his draft move north before his knee injury last season. He's a versatile defensive line prospect with possibilities as a 3-technique tackle or two-gap end and should impact a starting roster once back to full health.

http://www.draftinsider.net/reports/2014/S/Jimmie-Ward

Jimmie Ward
School: Northern Illinois
Position: S
Positive: Three-year starter who led Northern Illinois in tackles the past two seasons. Lined up at multiple positions in the secondary and also blocked three punts as a freshman. Smart, instinctive defensive back who plays a physical brand of football. Breaks down well, anticipates the action, and constantly around plays. Quick up the field, voluntarily defends the run, and shows a closing burst. Does a terrific job reading receivers eyes then getting his head back around to defend the deep throw. Displays terrific hands for interceptions. Keeps the action in front of him, does not make mental errors, and shows a good feel for the game. Effectively times pass defenses and shows ability in zone or man coverage.

Negative: Deep speed may be a concern. Not a strong open field tackler. Average size for the next level.

Analysis: Ward was a consistent defender for Northern Illinois, making plays defending the run, covering the pass, as well as standing out on special teams. He's not a prospect who meets the eyeball test rather a very good football player who should have a long career at the next level.

There's Kelvin Benjamin. Someone ripped me before about that one

Seriously, don't know what these GM's are looking at - other than size/speed ratio...

Size/Speed ratio does not a football player make.

Benjamin can't run routes to save his life... which, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that something a WR in the NFL has to do??

And Bucannon - my God, did you see that guys combine workout?? My hips are more fluid than his, and I have one artificial hip, and the other one is severely arthritic and needs to be replaced!!!!

Those are 2 terrible picks in the 1st round... Maybe Benjamin will develop over time, but you draft guys like that in the 3rd/4th round, not the 1st.

And Bucannon?? If I'm an opposing Offensive Coordinator?? I'm looking to match him up in coverage and put double moves on him all day...

http://www.draftinsider.net/reports/2014/CB/Bradley-Roby

Bradley Roby
School: Ohio State
Position: CB
Positive: Three-year starter coming off a disappointing season. Posted 69 tackles, 3 INTs, and broke up 13 passes in 2013 after 17 pass defenses as a junior. Talented cornerback who shuts down opponents when on his game. Displays a feel for coverage, terrific instincts and fights hard to break up passes. Fluid backpedaling, smooth flipping his hips, and easily runs downfield with opponents. Athletic, nimble, and shows a burst to the ball out of his plant. Remains disciplined with assignments and recognizes pass routes in zone coverage. Has a burst of speed which he turns on in a single step. Fast up the field defending running plays or screen passes, and sells out on the blitz. Terrific special teams player who's blocked punts in the past.

Negative: Struggled in all areas during the 2013 season. Consistently got caught out of position, blew assignments, and gave up big plays.

Analysis: After two tremendous seasons at Ohio State, Roby looked pedestrian last season and as a result his draft stock took a big hit. Potentially the first cornerback selected had he entered the 2013 draft, Roby now grades as a late first, early second-round pick but has all the tools necessary to start in the NFL if he gets his game back on track.

http://www.draftinsider.net/reports/2014/QB/Teddy-Bridgewater

Teddy Bridgewater
School: Louisville
Position: QB
Positive: Highly decorated three-year starter who's consistently improved over the course of his career. Sells ball fakes, patient in the pocket, and buys as much time as necessary. Senses pressure, does not panic under the rush, and steps up to avoid defenders. Knows where his receivers are, keeps his eyes down the field, and stays with the action. Effectively reads defenses in the pocket or on the move and keeps his eyes downfield. Elusive, escapes the rush and picks up yardage with his legs. Takes care of the ball, does not make errant passes or many mental mistakes. Looks away from covered targets and will go to secondary receivers. Good athlete with a terrific arm. Zips the outs, drives the deep pass but also puts touch on throws when necessary. Displays terrific field vision, takes advantage of opportunities, and nicely places the ball into receivers' hands. Throws a catchable pass and spreads the ball around to all his targets. Goes to the safe underneath outlet if nothing is available downfield. Displays a sense of timing and does not have receivers waiting on the ball. Very accurate on short and intermediate throws.

Negative: Lacks height and pocket presence. Has his share of passes knocked away. Struggles to withstand the rush. Durability could be a concern at the next level. Average downfield accuracy.

Analysis: Bridgewater was a productive quarterback who played smart and athletic football. He possesses the mental abilities and arm strength to start at the next level but his size and growth limitations could be a problem. If placed in the right system and properly coached Bridgewater could be a long time starter.

Take "fliers" on guys in the 5th round, not the 1st... Red posted a link that had Benjamin as 5th round pick.

That's closer to his value than a 1st round pick... especially given that there are a ton of good WR's in this draft. Caralina was desperate for WR's, but Benjamin??

Stephen Hill, WR, NYJ was a size/speed WR with a lot of upside last year... 6'4", 215 lbs... Yes he had QB problems, but he played 12 games and had 24 catches for 342 yds...

The leading receiver on the Jets was Jeremy Kerley. Kerley, Santonio Holmes, and David Nelson all had more than twice as many catches as Hill, in the same amount of games...

Size/speed aint everything... there were a lot of recievers on the board that were lightyears better than Benjamin.
