On Janis' route that he took for a TD. Might have been a bit of a grooved fastball, so to speak.

"They don't ever know," Adams said. "You see in practice, as soon as he got here, any time he catches that little shallow, that little drag route, he catches it and people take bad angles because they don't know how that V12 is going to kick in. That dude is fast."

On third and 1 from the Rams 34, Janis ran a short in — his favorite route at Saginaw Valley State — and caught the ball at the 32-yard line. As Janis turned toward the sideline, both Christian Bryant and Greg Reid seemed to have ideal angles. Janis saw Bryant and said he had to "take it wide, turn on my speed."

But whatever pause that gives you about his future development into an complete NFL receiver, rest assured the Packers probably don't throw that many rookies that kind of bone very often. So they must really like the kid.

And speed does kill.

Sherrod from Silverstein: http://www.jsonline.com/sports/packers/packers-backup-tackles-struggle-on-turf-b99331500z1-271550601.html

On Sherrod's first snap, with the ball at the Packers' 7 following a kickoff, he set up to take away an inside move by 6-foot-6, 269-pound backup end Eugene Sims, only to let Sims bend low around the corner and hit Tolzien right in the back as he let go of a pass to receiver Davante Adams.

So that setup seemed designed (by the play) or chosen (by Sherrod). If it was the correct call, he needs to stay lower to blunt the guy taking an edge.

"I got a little bit high," Sherrod said of his posture while setting up to block. "I just have to adjust off it. First play of the game, you're ready to go. But I have to just move on and go on to the next play."

On the next one, I believe Sims punched him after looking like a bull rush and got the corner again. He either needs more space to recover, deflect the punch or get lower to absorb and stay with the guy longer.

Finally, on third and 8 at the 27, Tolzien went across the middle to receiver Myles White and got drilled again by Sims, who beat Sherrod around the corner again.

The article seems to suggest that the turf makes a difference versus a wet track in Tennessee. But I wonder if the backup tackles were too convinced it would be different.

"I guess in my head I felt I needed to speed it up and got out of my own technique," said Adams, who started out at right tackle and moved to left tackle in the second half. "It happens. I think the second half, I calmed myself down and did better.

McGinn's Gamer: http://www.jsonline.com/sports/packers/271527741.html

According to Lang, McCarthy told the team in one of his earliest speeches that the Packers were going to play all-out in 2014.

"Coach made it clear from Day One that we want to run as many plays as possible," said Lang. "Our goal is 75 plays a game. We had somewhere in the mid-60s last year."

In 17 games, the Packers averaged 66.8 snaps. However, seven full games and 57 minutes of another were quarterbacked by someone other than Rodgers.

Don't think the Packers will look like the Eagles. They spend a lot of time at the LOS making calls and adjustments.

Bostick with a knee: http://www.jsonline.com/sports/packers/tight-end-richard-rodgers-gets-the-start-b99331505z1-271553451.html

He was not available for comment after the game, and McCarthy refused to share any information about his injury. It appeared on the sideline like the trainers were working on his knee and not the foot he broke last year that caused him to miss a large part of the off-season training program.

Rodgers got the start and might be OK with run blocking:

In all, Rodgers lined up eight times in-line, twice at fullback and twice in the slot. He had two nice run blocks, one against Robert Quinn and the other against Chris Long, but also got beat inside by Long on a run block that helped limit running back Eddie Lacy to a 2-yard gain.

Maybe Neal is a threat, but I don't see Harris in jeopardy:

In the visitors' locker room afterward, Harris sounded like a player who knows just how precious each carry is in August.

"It's my fault," Harris said. "The ball just came out."

In his 34 carries two years ago, Harris never fumbled. There was no direct helmet or punch on the ball Saturday.

"It was just a mistake by me," Harris said. "It had nothing to do with anybody else. Nobody knocked it out. It was my fault. I'll take the blame."

Sounds to me like it's possible that Sherrod is adjusting to his new body and life after two years away. I read somewhere that the guy rebuilt his body and is much stronger, but his feet aren't as quick as they used to be.

So maybe in his head he's still playing with that old body in his mind as what he's working with. Therefore, he's worried about bull rushes and punches, so he sets up for those, hard, thinking his feet will get him moved if it's a corner/speed rush.

But that's not his body any more. Maybe if the guy anticipates more of a corner/speed rush, and it's a bull rush, his body will be more ready for that.

Just a' guessin'.

On OLB Elliot:

Jason Wilde ‏@jasonjwilde 33m
#Rams beat guy @jthom1 told us Hooey is 6th OT. Still think what Elliott did was impressive. Mentioned in 2:00 drill: http://www.espnwisconsin.com/common/page.php?feed=2&id=15221&is_corp=1 …

Not only did Janis do that in a big way – the film of his touchdown will likely be enough to prevent the Packers from being able to sneak him through waivers and onto the practice squad at the Aug. 30 final cutdown – but he also looked the smoothest of any of the young receivers enlisted to return punts. While Adams looked indecisive after last week’s two-fumble performance and Myles White looked lost on a short kick for his only opportunity, Janis caught three punts cleanly, returning one for 9 yards and fair-catching the other two.

GB Press Gazette's WesHod still thinks that's the plan after Worthy was let go. That he was simply bypassed by other players.
