I haven't done one of these in a long time. But before you honkies try to have me deported keep in mind I have the 2nd or 3rd longest game thread streak of any PackerRat. Took me flying to GB to see a game for it to end (broke my ritual). Well I ain't going anywhere for a while and something tells me peecocks will be getting bitch slapped next Thursday so let's start this shit off right and BBQ these KC bitches!!

Myles White
Janis running routes and returning kicks.
Ha Ha
Guion (if he plays)

Section 16-4 of the internet penal code protocol clearly states that if the thread starter was negligent in his duties (not knowing there was a game) you had authority as site administrator to co-op gameday thread privileges.

That being said, I can't watch this game til sunday morning on NFL network so clue me in on Linsley, Sherrod, and Pennel. Oh, and Jayrone Elliot as well.

It won't be me, I'll be just checking in with the gamecast a bit. I see Demetri Goodson is out tonight with a concussion. He's about a sure a bet for cuts as I can think of in recent history.

Nine defensive starters not in uniform: D Jones, Daniels, Matthews, Peppers, Hawk, B Jones (quad injury), T Williams, Shields, Burnett

Pete Dougherty ‏@PeteDougherty 32m
So Packers' list of players not in uniform says it all: All offensive starters but Linsley out, that includes Bostick, who has leg injury ..

Pete Dougherty ‏@PeteDougherty 31m
.... the rest of the TEs will play.

No Goodson either.

Guion starts at NT not Boyd - had a tackle

Flynn is first QB up

Sherrod Play 1 Caught a wide rusher and swallowed him. Did let him get a little deep

Sherrod Play 2 run block made good contact and control DL retreats to free himself

Uh-Oh Admas is down. #77 Up on his own but limping with right leg.

Flynn to get quarters 1/3 Tolzien 2/4 for #Packers QB reps according to Larry McCarren.

Packer Report ‏@PackerReport 3m
Flynn starting at QB. Sherrod, Taylor, Linsley, GErhart and Adams, from LT to RT.

Packer Report ‏@PackerReport 55s
With Adams injured, Sherrod moves to RT. Vujnovich takes over at LT.

Wow. Flashback for Derek.

pbmax
08-28-2014, 06:20 PM
Sherrod Play 3 55 jumps the count, Sherrod reacts and draws the flag

Sherrod Play 4 Caught rusher wide and swallowed him again. Again, a little narrow but left MF space. Much better kick step tonight

Rodgers with first down catch

Sherrod Play 5 Nice run block, not a drive blocker but kept 55 engaged and back went right inside him

Sherrod Play 6 run block. No movement but fought to draw and no penetration on backside

pbmax
08-28-2014, 06:23 PM
Sherrod Play 7 pass rush, never was challenged

Flynn looks much better tonight

Sherrod Play 8 run block, backside never had to hit the guy who was playing contain

Sherrod Play 9 pass rush, OLB is very interested in denying Rodgers release and never rushes

Sherrod Play 10 pass rush, gets bull rushed and beat inside flushing Flynn. No jailbreak but too much penetration

pbmax
08-28-2014, 06:25 PM
Sherrod Play 11 #55 gets him on skates again and drives Flynn flushed left. Two bad reactions to bull rush in a row. He is too high.

Sherrod Play 12 run play backside, just blocks 55 on contain duty

Sherrod Play 13 pass rush, get s punch but bobble is right, he needs a better one as 55 won. However, 55 couldn't get anywhere and pass came out for TD. Sherrod wins battle but lost punch.

Sherrod Play ?? cut off block for run and missed his guy

Sherrod play ??+1 play side run block is OK, no drive

Sherrod plsy ??+2 pass block his guy gets wide but it takes forever and ST has time

Sherrod play ??+3 pass block same as before forces guy wide, he gets corner but takes a long time. This time he might have been in position to catch the guy again before the QB was in trouble

FG attempt

They were off by just a hair. Contain guy stayed wide but took the corner (lost inside gap leverage) and next guy in also lost leverage on his outside. Instant small gap. Need to stop trying to be heroes and squeeze the gap the returner picked.

Some tall receivers going tonight in Janis and Rodgers.

pbmax
08-28-2014, 07:28 PM
Damn, missed two Sherrod plays watching the ball.

Vujnovich. Born to be a Tackle.

Sherrod #1 after two minute warning at half good pass block on quick pass

Sherrod #2 good pass block did get separated but was in position to recover throw made

Sherrod #3 gets decked inside, recovers, then gets bulled and recovers. Not pretty but worked.

pbmax

#20 Rolle bit on the wrong receiver in zone

pbmax
08-28-2014, 07:33 PM
Bush had no idea the WR put the brakes on way too early to look for throw. He just has no feel on the outside

Doug Pederson has put on some weight

Just a little pass rush gets QB to shuffle feet and throw is off

Pack seems better in zone this preseason

D-line's getting light. Wouldn't be surprised if someone is picked up this weekend after cuts. Pennel definitely makes the roster due to Thornton injury. I'm only speculating on Thornton being out for the year, but when you get taken off on a cart and you are a GB Packer, your next trip is to IR.

Sherrod 2nd Half Play 1 pass block good and short on quick out

Sherrod 2 run block play side kept engaged but lost ground

Sherrod 3 backside run block did not get his guy cutoff

Sherrod 4 best pass block of night, one hand punch was enough. Not sure that is the ideal form. Worked though

pbmax
08-28-2014, 07:56 PM
Sherrod 5 play side run block, kept engaged but lost ground again. He needs some functional lower body strength. Stayed engaged both times and RB gained yardage however

Sherrod 6 straight ahead dive modestly effective down block

Sherrod 7 play action boot good down block clears edge

pbmax
08-28-2014, 07:58 PM
Sherrod 8 pass block, get good kick step but Guard does not disengage on stunt so two block one. Bad route taken by OLB on stunt though so no damage

Sherrod 9 pass block. Guy gets an edge but doesn't get loose. He hangs on.

I like what I've seen from Hill this preseason. Kid runs hard and always seems to keep moving forward. If he doesn't make our practice squad I hope he gets a chance somewhere else. Hard to believe we're this deep at RB when just a couple of years ago we barely had an NFL caliber back on the roster

Hubbard does elaborate dance to celebrate only good play of summer camp on a sack

He looks like he weighs 222 at 6' 6" not 257

Split a DT and got pressure

Oh crap Packer down. J Elliot was the guy who was down. Not being examined. Seemed to be telling McKenzie he took a punch (legal kind) to chest maybe? Knocked the wind out of him?

Sherrod 10 pass block on boot, blocked down then recovers wide. No problem not much happened

Flynn with badly under thrown ball

Sherrod 11 down block on backside, does not get guy. Looks like Clifton on these. His guy does not get the ball carrier

Perkins running fast with purpose draws a flag

Sherrod 12 pass block, no problems, screen other way, TD by Perkins

They're down to 3 OT's right now with Bakhtiari, Bulaga and Adams out of the game. Sherrod, Vujnovich and Fullington are left.

TV station in mid-season form as far as commercials are concerned. Score - commercial - XP - commercial - KO - commercial. Two 1 minute breaks, and a 30 sec spot.

Wouldn't be a Green Bay PackIRs game without 3 OLB injuries in the same game.

#72 Gerhard? played center almost the whole game. Guy is 6 foot x 4 foot.

I'm surprised they didn't give the starter more reps to get him ready

Harlan, they already know they're keeping Linsley and Tretter. They wanted to give Gerhart a good long look.

I think Gerhart was out there the whole game because they didn't want to risk injury to a player who is going to make the team.

I would have liked to see Linsley play more, and even the emergency center (Sitton?) take some snaps. But I get the tradeoff.

Final word on Sherrod's first full training camp. He still has work to do. Might be back to his mid-season 2011 form but not much better.

He is definitely behind Bach to start the season.

I won't get to watch this game until after the cuts. I have a few questions for those that did:

How did Carl Bradford look at ILB?
Did Jake Stoneburner play on any special teams?
Did Andy Mulumba do anything noteworthy?

Mulumba's head slap on a KC QB negated a Jumal Rolle interception... Not good, but not really the kind of thing players are usually judged for.

Bradford looked willing but a step slow to react. Had some tackles but was scored on via pass in goal to go situation, also missed one tackle. Needs time. Problem might be that they put Palmer at ILB as well for a good spell and had him calling the D plays.

Didn't watch ST for him, but Stoneburner had a few catches including one very nice wheel route that got a first down on his YAC.

Mulumba had some reasonable pressure but no results I recall.

I did not see every play of 2nd and 4th quarters.

My take aways from the game:

Elliot had already made the squad but had his best 5 snap streak in this game. I think its too early to call him a major find but he's a good football player.

Janis is good enough right now to contribute. He's definitely not the detail-oriented route craftsman that we're used to seeing but in the meantime he can make a career on having everyone misjudge his speed. Nobody takes a good angle on him. What really has me excited though was seeing him catch a very contested ball over his shoulder for his touchdown. As the 5th or 6th WR on this team doing that is the only way to make an impact. I think he can be used in a poor man's Cordarrelle Patterson type of role and also a Robert Meachem type of 9 route specialist role.

I also think Myles White makes us keep 6 WR. He's looking very polished and smooth and a great 2nd slot guy on a team with a hairy split TE situation. On top of that he's got at least as much special teams utility as Janis. He's made a few nice tackles in the coverage teams this preseason.

Of all the bums we mined (2012 © Wist) this season I'm most excited about Pennel. For a rookie he looks outstanding as a point man. Stays square, stays on his feet, and knows where to position himself to poop in an offenses Cheerios. He needs conditioning, he needs reps, but I think he and Boyd can be the Tandom that Raji and Pickett were supposed to become.

Bradford held up, did what he was supposed to. He had good coverage on the TD he gave up and for the most part made his tackles but basically played very conservatively. Not sure if that's smart for a guy in his situation.

In obvious pass situations we had our guys lined up in a 4-2. With the OLBs putting their hands on the ground. I saw some real wide 4 point stances even. I'm thinking the coaching staff likes its dogs this year.

Mulumba hasn't taken a step forward. He's still a physical dude and doesn't look fun to block. I think he's firmly behind Elliot and probably Palmer because of his versatility. Assuming Palmer isn't going on IR.

Sherrod is a much worse run blocker than Bak. I don't think reps will ever fix that part of his game. He's just too nice guy like Clifton was.

Jarrett Bush being the best player on the field actually makes me hate him more. What a goddamn tease.

Where were all these good safeties and running backs 3 years ago?????

He had an interception called back due to a penalty? Guy couldn't catch a break, he also had a nice pass breakup on 4th down that KC got a 1st down on due to a penalty. The TV feed said encroachment, but someone on the board said it was hands to the face. No replay, so didn't see either.

So he didn't make any major, major gaffes last night, but he didn't impress in the run game?

So he didn't make any major, major gaffes last night, but he didn't impress in the run game?

Two negative plays I saw. He got walked backwards into Flynn's lap by #55 on a bull rush twice. He was too high and couldn't recover. Neither was a free rusher or fire drill, but both were bad. He needs to get lower and anchor better.

He also kept getting neutralized in the run game. His size and long arms mean you aren't getting around him, but his best straight run blocking was a no decision. At worst, he would get punched and retreat a step.

McCarthy said Sherrod transformed himself and was stronger this year. But that didn't translate often to the field. He needs to use his legs, get lower and as KYP said, learn to punch first or like Clifton, ignore the punch and win anyway with strength.

Pb pretty much did a play by play update on all his snaps in this thread if you're curious.

I thought he was fine in pass pro. He loses tons of style points but at the end of the day he's effective. As a run blocker he's just a gentle giant, can control a guy to a stalemate but not violent and not doing much at the next level.

I think Linsley played the 1st quarter. I got scared when I saw he wasn't on the field in the second quarter, thinking he'd been hurt. I saw him standing on the sideline, I think in the 4th quarter with his helmet on. It was good to see him standing, but then I questioned why his helmet was on.

There was another Tackle that looked pretty good, but again, he was going against 2nd and 3rd stringers - Vujnovich. I hope they sign him to the PS. He could be another Barclay.
