Wow, Indy is just whipping the Texans.

I think we could do without Thursday Night Football. Have any of these games been close this year? The NFL barely has enough quality product for Sunday afternoon/evening, let alone Monday night and now Thursday night.

I'm hoping for another turnover and quick score to make this a game. If the Colts go right down the field and score, I'd say it's probably still over.

Week 8 should be good with the Chargers playing the Broncos. Pats/Jets is usually interesting (next week).

JJ Watt vs Andrew Luck is a good time.

Turned out to be a decent game. The two fumbles by the Texans at the end though, tsk tsk tsk.

I only caught last quarter. JJ Watt played well, but I've never seen him so worn down. Is he playing both ways or something?

He scores as much as the offense does.

And Watt had a chance at an INT on the Colts' penultimate drive.

Forget Wilson vs. Luck is the new Brady vs. Manning... Try Watt vs. Luck.

Why you should read:

Giants-Eagles

There was a point late last week—just after Odell Beckham's hamstring got tired of Tom Coughlin yelling at it and sprung back into place—that the Giants had both one of the shortest injury reports in the NFL and their full complement of offensive weapons. This is not the natural state of New York football, so Rashad Jennings promptly suffered an MCL injury as a result of cosmic counterbalances.

Cowboys are currently ahead 17-10 against the Seagulls.

If Dallas wins this game, "America's Team" is gonna be much talked-about in the media this week.

I usually hate the Cowboys but I'm enjoying watching them beat the Seahawks down. That OL is mauling Seattle's front 7.

For as good as the Seahawks are, they're a pretty lucky team too. Bad snap. Muffed punt.

How about the Raiders today? I have the San Diego defense in my fantasy league, and thought that was a sure play. I am happy for the down-trodden Raiders, though. Carr is going to be a good one if they can build around him.

They are playing very good today. I am also happy for them because I feel kind of bad for C. Wood. I agree that Carr will be a good one if they give him some weapons.

Cowboys out gained them. Packers need to O line to settle back down to what it was last year. Bach has to lock it down, interior needs to be more consistent in run blocks.

Even so, I doubt the packers could beat them playing like they are now. Maybe that means they will be playing their best football later in the year, which imo is when they really need to.

The "Rule of 53" thing might be dumbest things I ever heard about football. Maybe about anything.

Brian Burke ‏@Adv_NFL_Stats 20m20 minutes ago
I've got a rule too. It's called the Rule of 6. TDs plus kneeldowns must equal 6 each game. Better start kneeling now.

Football Perspective ‏@fbgchase 20m20 minutes ago
Well actually http://www.footballperspective.com/mike-lombardi-cracks-the-code-to-winning-in-the-nfl/ … RT @Adv_NFL_Stats The "Rule of 53" thing might be dumbest things I ever heard about football.

Best of the rest of rules to winning football games (stats from 2008 to 2012):

a. Here’s another to just focus on the ground game: teams with 2+ rushing touchdowns in a game win 76.5% of all games (414-127-1).

b. But perhaps focusing on offensive statistics is the wrong way to go about it. The real way to win is with defense. Teams that force 3 interceptions or more in a game win 90.0% of the time (210-23-1).

c. Think forcing interceptions is difficult? All defenses really need to do is force incompletions. When your opponent throws 20 or more incomplete passes in a game, you win 87.0% of the time (223-33-1). Even if you only force 15+ incompletions, you still win 75.8% of the time (747-238-2).

d. Instead of focusing on building your secondary, consider getting some pass rushers. Teams with 6+ sacks in a game win 78.4% of the time (81-22-1).

e. Here’s another sign that the game is won in the trenches: teams won 71.6% (290-115-0) of the time that they they finished the game with no sacks. Just say no to passing.

f. Getting to 50+ completions + rush attempts sounds tough. Instead, teams should just focus all their energy on winning the first half. Teams that enter the locker room with a lead won 77.1% of all games (945-280-2). Better yet, just win through three quarters: that gives you an 82.6% chance of winning (1031-216-2).

g. The real key? To take second half kneel downs. Teams that do that win 98% of the time.

Rule of 53 is a variation on this nugget from Mike Lombardi: http://www.footballperspective.com/mike-lombardi-cracks-the-code-to-winning-in-the-nfl/

If you take only the teams that averaged 50.0 or more rushing attempts + completions per game over the last five years, you get a combined regular season record of 339-189 (.642), with 22 of 33 (66%) teams qualifying for the postseason. That winning percentage puts a team in between 10 and 11 wins per season.
