"He's been dealing with a body that, I think, hasn't been responding as well as he'd want it to at times this year," Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers said on his weekly ESPN Milwaukee radio show Tuesday.

It's been hard to deny that he hasn't looked slow out there. It's either true or Rodgers is giving him a little cover for his reduction in playing time. Unless/until he shows up on the injury report it's all conjecture I guess. Heck with the way the injury reports are manipulated even then you don't really know the whole truth.

Hawk had 1 solo tackle and 1 Assisted Tackle in the last game.

Yeah, I agree, the description from Rogers could just as well just be another way of saying he is old.

That's kind of what I thought. Every player, especially linemen and linebackers, have to deal every week with getting their body to recover from the effects of the previous game. That's why they don't practice until Wednesday. If Hawk's body isn't able to recover from the previous game as it once did, age could be a factor.

I'll chime in here with the others:

It seems to me that if Rodgers isn't referring to an undisclosed injury and given that he says clearly that:

AJ Hawk "would never use an injury as an excuse"

Leaves the speculation that AJ Hawk just doesn't have the spurt in him now to get it done. Why?

Maybe it's age catching him !? Maybe it may be something other than an injury, yet specifically health related?

I remember when AJ was drafted and the story was a ten year starter. Set it and forget it. It looks like we got 9.

Will Hawk be loved by fans when all is said and done? I think he should be - though I think people will always hold his draft position over his head. He has been a model GBP in my opinion. He is not a great player but so what. There are very few great players.

Actually, saying he wouldn't use the injury as an excuse is exactly what players say when using an injury as an excuse. However, since its Rodgers talking for him, I suspect Hawk is no longer communicating at a Pro Bowl level.

Ahhh...but he is. You may not be so politically minded, but one of the best methods to maintain total deniability and an unblemished visage is to have surrogates tell your tale of woe. Plans within plans within plans.

He's gone next level, your saying? Benign Dear Leader and President for Life?

If he gets another contract, then we'll know we are in serious trouble.

After watching Hawk for the last 9 years I have finally come to the conclusion that he is an average football player at best. Nothing he has done on the field has ever stood out as dynamic, or special. Not what you wanted out a top 5 draft pick. Sorry to say it, I have always liked Hawk but he turned out to be just a "guy".

Ted's job for next season is to find two new starting MLBs
