If you love defensive football or are an insomniac, the battler of Drew Stanton versus Shaun Hill is a taut affair; currently at 6-3, Birds leading.

It would be very nice of Jeff Fisher to make this one of his 8 wins this season. And its in St. Louis.

Arizona's playoff picture is about to change drastically. They just hauled Drew Stanton off into the locker room. Looked to be a pretty bad injury.

C'mon Coach Fisher, bring it home.

Now 9-3 Cards. Not only is it going the wrong way, with these 2 QB's it makes one remember what the Packers could have if they didn't have Rodgers.

True, but each is being helped by extra-ordinary bad offensive football. Cards went to a 3 TE set when Stanton went off. Its going to look like Tebow out there.

More puzzling are the Rams. Hill is functional and they have Tavon Austin (sp?) but they have something like 4 yards this half. And that Arizona D is beat up.

Arizona has their CB's jamming the receivers on the LOS and then blitzing the house. S. Hill just doesn't have time to think, much less pass.

Funny thing is, that this game has a decent chance on ending on something odd, most likely a ST play or turnover. The offenses aren't likely to put the game away, leaving time and chance for a mistake to decide it. Still not a good reason to still be down by six.

Maxie the Taxi

But like a lot of HC's from a defensive background, he is scared to death of offense and is ultra conservative. He would rather pull fake FGs and punts than be creative on offense. Former D coordinators seem to organize their offense around ideas they fear they are unprepared for. But its a terrible idea to base the entire O on that. See Ryan, Rex.

Peter King applauded the decision to kick a FG. I wonder what he now thinks of the options:

Try for TD on 4th and less than 1 with 6 minutes on clock, get ball back around midfield for FG with under 2 minutes left.

Pray for Shaun Hill passing magic at mid-field with under 2 minutes left.

Schatz at Football Outsiders did a nice analytic turnaround of Herm Edwards famous quote, speaking directly to King's point:

Some are saying the FG was wise to stay in the game with 6 minutes left. But the goal is to win it, not stay in it.

King also still fails to realize what an idiot he looked like when he ratted out the kids chasing a foul ball and then used his celebrity to collect the same ball. That's the way the world works to Peter. Its one thing to behave that way, but to then tell the story and expect to come out looking good is a level of obliviousness few can match.

Sherman proved in just 5 years at Texas A&M that he can develop and recruit hotshot QBs.

Ever since Alvarez took over the Wisconsin program, not once did the team had a hotshot QB, although Sorgi came close (Alvarez kept him on the bench, which was stupid). Wilson was a 1 and done ordeal, so he doesn't count.

Wisconsin needs a hotshot qb. Sherman knows how to recruit and develop hotshot QBs.

He's not what I would call wrong, but just because you want a 5star QB to come to Wisconsin, doesn't mean it will happen. What other school in the B10 have a 1st round QB in the last 20 years? You have to get a 4 star guy and hope to catch lightning in a bottle. That's the only way a B10 team is going to win it all.

Kerry Collins was the last Big 10 QB drafted in the first round.

He's trolling and there are two tells:

1. Use of "hotshot QB" phrase repeatedly to establish bullshit criteria to measure success. Frames argument on the only turf that is friendly to him. Also meant to distract you from second piece of evidence.

2. Actual record of success of the idea he is promoting.

But college is different than pros, so draft round is a poor measure. How many first round draft picks won National Championships? Not Manning, not Leaf, not Rodgers, not Big Ben, not Marmalard Rivers, not Manning Jr., not Hotshot Tannehill.

NFL QBs not drafted in first round with Super Bowl wins: Brady, Flacco, Wilson, Brees, Brad Johnson, Warner, Favre, etc.

Home field advantage is a bonus, but to me, I didn't care before today and I don't care now - I just wanted the win and I want a spot in the playoffs.

I understand this team, especially this year, is different at home. They are ungodly good at home. But remember, the Packers made it to the SB playing every game on the road in the playoffs. Anyone can get hot in the playoffs. We just need to get there.

I like this pittsrang better than the one posting during the game.

You have to give him a break during the game. He is in his lucky garage inhaling CO to keep the streak alive. Its hard to post with clarity while holding your breath.

I'm a different person when the game is on. I'm in a zone, my focus is the game. I can't yell, scream, curse or throw things - any type of venting upsets the child and wife. I have no other Packer Friends in the area, so I can't even watch a game with a buddy and share the frustration or happiness. BUT, what I CAN do, is use this forum as an outlet and/or share in the good times and bad times. I know I bitch a lot and have a pessimist nature in the threads, but that's just the way I am. Believe me, I've tried to change. Every year I say this year will be different. But here I am, bitching in every game day thread.

OH, the Garage failed me today. Went out and Bills got the Safety.

Yep. Every year my family hates me when I know the Packers are going to lose. I am a very bad loser and sometimes they have to wrest the remote from my clutches, even after passing out from the mind-searing agony of a Packer loss. "It's only a game!" ARRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Dallas just challenged the ruling on the field. Phi might get a TD after reviewed.

ThunderDan

Weird play. WR tackled at the 1 and ball comes out as he stretches for the TD. Phi hurries to stop Dal from challenging and I thought PHI should have challenged for a TD. Play stands the refs had it right.

Those words infuriate me to no end. "It's only a game" - Always said by someone that doesn't follow football.

I'm not impressed with either of these lame, piece of crap NFC East teams propped up by east coast bias reporting.

There are only 3 teams with a chance to come out of the NFC. Green Bay, Seattle and Detroit.

Tonight on MNF it's the New Orleans Saints @ The Chicago Bears.

It's been wet today in Chicago so the track should get muddy.

Will the Jay Cutler QB'd Bears finally do something for their HC?

Will Drew Brees and the Saints stop making so many errors and get back to doing decently on the road.

I'll look now to see what the Lads in the Pro Pickem' think? Just as I expected:

Those members with 1 CP >>> Bears. The remainder bet >>> Saints.

This should be a blast to watch.

Ohh Ohh on the second play of the game da Bears fumble and recover. LOL

Drew Brees is putting on a QB Clinic.

18/20 for 226 yards and 2 TDs in the first half.

The SCORE 14-0 Saints.

Jay Cutler isn't .... His first half numbers ... 6/14 and '56 yards and 2 Picks'.

Translation: Jay Cutler SUCKS !

Their poor fans.

Jay Cutler's Post Game Presser:

It's sad/pathetic and reached the dreaded result of nothingness. Cutler wasn't asked much.

Then there's this story:

I feel very bad for Marc Trestman. I'm well aware of his potential as a respected leader.

He was handed an aging team and a starting small 'f' franchise QB that seems to be on his own planet.

it's a mess in Chicago with great players like Alshon Jeffery and Matt Forte.

All right, since someone needs to say it: @SportsonEarth is not shutting down. There are some changes going on. But it is not shutting down.

Yes, Sports on Earth will *technically* continue to exist. But they've laid off 95% of the writers and editors who made it what it was. So.
