Finally puts an end to the worst foreign policy blunder in US history. Too bad it took fifty five fuckin years to see the light.

I think there may be less here than meets the eye. It is going to take a lot of years before there is active trade and investment. The Castro regime and successor will be leery. The next U.S. president will still be negotiating end to embargo based on frustratingly slow changes.

But still, step in the right direction. A psychological wall has fallen. Today, we dance.

You're right. It turns out that oppressive communist regimes aren't quick to adopt change. Cuba won't move too quickly either.

In fact, nothing will change in Cuba, especially for those Cubans who are most oppressed, despite our dictator's glorious delusional visions a Cuba freed by trade and word-of-mouth diplomacy - which will most likely still be conducted in Cuba's prisons with the rest of the political dissidents. All it really means is that pretentious jerk offs will hope to get their cigars easier.

The only repressive communist dictatorships remaining on the planet today are the ones that have been isolated, either through war or embargoes. The Castro bros have the US cold warriors to thank for their political longevity.

It figures that our resident leftists would think this attempt at "normalization" with still Communist Cuba is a good thing. I see it as Obama's attempt at bailing out this cancer in the Americas which was steadily winding down with the fall of the Soviet Union and its support of Cuban Communism and now the drastic slowing of the spigot of Venezuelan oil money (the REAL reason for our good fortune of lower oil prices - the harm it does to that triumvirate of evil, Venezuela, Iran, and Russia). Obama is hoping an influx of American trade and tourist money. That may happen, but it won't make a helluva lot of difference in that Communism-destroyed country. Too bad the technology we used to take out Hugo Chavez didn't exist a generation ago to get rid of the Castro brothers - now they're so old it probably ain't worth the trouble hahahaha.
